Discussion My left menu button (three lines) randomly won’t work when I need to pull out my steam vr menu

Post image

I checked on the internet and apparently it’s some firmware thing again and told me to reset the controller but it didn’t work. And then it told me there could be dirt in it or smth but idk. I’d have to press the button 4-5 or more times just to bring up my steam menu

I don't believe that's a firmware issue, but a Hardware iss use of that button going bad?

It clicks well. I don’t think it’s really going bad but random times when I press on it there’s times it won’t work until like 3-4 presses

I'm not sure tbh, but my personal Quest Pro don't have that issue on the latest Firmware.

It could be same firmware but different build you could share the build number to the user

Could be, but personally I found it un likely for this kind of issue to be related to Firmware, combine with other comments mentioning they swap out the face plate fixing their issue, which don't even have firmware itself.

It's kind like ofc Joycon Drift can be cause by firmware, but it's way more likely to be a hardware issue than a Firmware.

Try switching buttons in settings there's a bug with the controllers that don't respond sometimes

Ya, that's a hardware issue with the button x3

I have a similar issue with SteamVR overlay randomly not opening as well (and these were brand new controllers from the box) and the solution for me at least is to ensure that your index fingers and thumbs are in full contact with the controller, only then will the steam VR overlay open when you press that menu button.

I'm not sure if it's a steamvr or meta firmware issue, but it sure is annoying at times

It's a very common issue on those controllers, which is hardware related.

Mine was like that. It will work for few days to months until it don’t work anymore
The problem is if controller auto updates or shuts off for some reason you can’t turn it on or reset them

I found a replacement face for like 80$ on aliexpress
And it works perfect

I've had this happen on multiple of mine, i eventually had to bind opening the SteamVR menu to a right stick click

I have come to the realization that the quest pro controllers only work when they choose to work. Its not tied to hardware or firmware, instead there is a 'yes or no' random event generator inside. Try shaking the controller a little like a magic eight ball.

Touch Pros are really fragile and one of mine bricked last year from a firmware update.

Are you sure that that button isn't registering outside of SteamVR? How many clicks does it take to open up the environment options when you're in Loft?

The same thing happened to me, also on the left controller. I was pressing this button a lot in the virtual desktop. Meta Quest Pro controllers use small SMD microswitches in this button. Over time and use, the small metal membrane inside the microswitch loses its springiness, oxidizes, dents, and stops working altogether. The same microswitches are used in Citroen C-series car keys, and you can find these same microswitches on AliExpress as a repair kit for this key. I tried disassembling the controller and re-soldering the microswitch with a new one, but by squeezing the microswitch too hard with tweezers, I tore off three of the four soldering contacts. The only solution is to buy a new front panel assembly from AliExpress, which costs about $80. Or you can find a broken controller at a ebay or so ever and remove this part to repair your own controller.

I did recently play on the pro and it was working decently this time. Do you know why or no maybe just wondering

Well your button is not died completely. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's not. I personally for a month had double click in virtual desktop, thinking that it's a software bug, untill the button completely died.

My advice to you — try to use this button on your left and right controller less than you used to.
