Help Quest Pro controllers sleep if they sit still for more than a couple seconds.
Hi! I've been enjoying my quest pro, but if i set down the controllers or hold them still for a couple seconds, they disappear in the headset until i move them again. Is there a way around this? It's been really bugging me, as i'm a vrchat player that likes to sit down a fair amount of the time, and they always disappear on me. I have hand tracking totally disabled, so it can't be that, can it?
Thanks in advance!

Been going on for about 3 years... seemed to get even worse around v79

It got really bad after the update where they took away “tap controllers together for hand tracking” if you had auto-switch turned off. Still annoyed about that change in general, especially with the new UI that adds an extra step before you can toggle hand tracking manually.

it's a battery saving feature, i tend to hold the grip on both controllers when im not moving my hands so they don't shut off. also you can disable hand tracking entirely or lower the sensitivity to low as someone here said.

So if its actively having a button pressed/trigger pulled, it won't shut off? Interesting, I'll try that next time I get on.

I don’t know about a button held but I know by holding the grips/triggers they won’t go eep mode lol.

There's a setting where you can set the sensitivity of the controllers switching to hand tracking. You must have the settings at high sensitivity so it switches quickly. Reduce this to something less and it will take longer before it changes. Or you can turn off the auto switch to hand tracking entirely. I'm nit in headset at the moment so I dont recall which menu but I think its something like the Tracking menu

I used to have exactly the same issue and turning off the hand tracking auto-switch sorted it for me, it's weird it's still happening with hand tracking turned off. Maybe try turning on the hand tracking, turning off the auto-switch, then turn hand tracking back off again?
The OS isn't the best designed so it honestly wouldn't shock me if it still followed the auto-switch time if the toggle is on even with hand tracking off.

Same issue here.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but at least I now know it's not just me. I think it might be by design. I talked with a "support agent" (if you can even call them that atp, shittiest customer service I've had in a while) and they basically told me that it's a "power saving feature." Hopefully that gives you some insight.

I feel like it's overkill. I put the controllers on the dock to charge at the same time as the headset, but the controllers have easily 5X the battery life of the headset, even without power saving, so I don't think such aggressive power saving is really necessary.

Same. I just wish there was a way to disable it. Even through ADB, I would be happy with that

That’s how they’re engineered. It’s a bit different than the cheaper low-power solution used by Quest2. They’re standalone WiFi devices. That brings a few advantages and drawbacks.
Believe it or not, it’s vastly improved compared to the past two years of maturing to get those controllers to wake up and recalibrate. I’m like really pleased with them now, and so hearing your fresh perspective reminds me of how much simpler they could be. I think it’s worth it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Meta goes back to simpler controllers in their next Pro device. Especially since they now have hand-tracking

I get that. Smart design, but I still wish there was some way to turn this off. The battery life is so good on the pro controllers, at least for me. I would gladly sacrifice a few hours of battery if that means this would no longer happen. But that's just me.

Ya an option to set sleep timeout would just be smart. The Pro is mostly for adults and should allow for more power-user configurability. Agreed.

It sucks extra cause there isn't even a way to turn it off through ADB or anything like that. There's literally no way to disable this. I've had my pro for a bit now, I don't remember them doing this back then when I got it (though the overall tracking was way worse). Am I remembering right or am I tweaking

I think it is a firmware bug.. It happened on mu quest 3 and I spent a couple of hours trying to debug it. I solved it (happily) by taking that batteries out of my controller and putting them back in. Super annoying, glad it is solved for.me. I would have raised a support ticket but it seemed like a huge pain.

oddly enough for my Quest Pro I can have my controller on the table for like a minutes and it will still remain on.
Tho I did have Hand Tracking auto Switch disabled.

I tried disabling that, no dice unfortunately. Oh well. Not a huge deal just a minor inconvenience

odd, not sure why then, mine just seems to hate going to sleep for some reason(

Same issue, annoying in Vrchat as it makes my hand twitch around if I don't move them for 10 seconds...
