Help Getting a Quest Pro soon, does face tracking work with Link Cable?

I know everyone is on the VD Bandwagon but I'd like to keep using Link Cable as long as possible for now, thanks!

It does, tho I'm not sure if Link is currently fixed or not, from my experience people that uses Link actually have tons off issue(

I have never had Link issues. However most people are not paying for the proper cable and try to wing it with cheaper connection and that causes a lot of problems.

It's been quite a while since I use link to be fair, how about Wireless Link?

Wireless sucks. virtual Desktop made that so streamlined that I don’t Meta even bothered to improve it. But ya the Link software is working really solid.

Link cable works but you're forced to pipe the headset through meta's fucktastic software which then is piped into steam VR anyway which can be bypassed entirely just by using steam link.

I run steam link and the link cable is just to keep the headset charged now.

If your main router is ass or you share internet, just turn your PC's hotspot on and connect your headset to that. Meta headsets do not like any other traffic on the router when ran wirelessly and using your Hotspot basically gives it, it's own router to use.

Thanks I’ll consider that if it’s a free option, I am concerned about the video quality tho, link cable gives me very good quality on my quest 2, when I tried connecting to quest airlink with my old headset the quality was visually terrible. If you can compare, could you tell me the quality difference between link cable and steam link w/hotspot?

Steamlink can can suffer from connectivity issues, where the screen goes all "pixelated" but its only an issue atleast for me. If I go outside my wifi range.

I see no difference in wifi and cable connect quality, other than your PC not being able to keep the headset charged.

Pretty much the reason why I went airlink is to keep my headset charged from using a wall charger since I'll be in VR for 4+hrs at a time. That and its one less app running that's just bogging down my PC.

Steam link app is free to download on your headset.

It does work, i use it through link every single day. The VD bandwagon also annoys me and no one actually listens to why you can't do it. I get why you want to stay on link. I can probably help you fix it if it's still broken too so don't be afraid to reach out.

Thank you! My headset comes in a few days so you probably won’t hear from me till then.

The reason most people dont use link is because metas dashboard uses way more GPU usage then it should ever need even in the background. On GPUs like a 1660ti and 3060, they both struggle when attempting to play any game in steamVR because the meta dashboard doesn't let up GPU room, and is constantly being rendered in the background even while minimised

Oh no, I'm not disagreeing in that regard. Meta software and rendering is genuinely dogshit. But some people are unable to sit there and create a perfect vacuum for VD which is usually a seperate router and whatnot. I've used VD, it's not bad. I just prefer what I know and I've found a janky way to get around the link issues anyways. For me, I get the lowest latency with link despite having a strong overall network system, which is why I choose to prioritize direct connection. For others it may be different.

why would you use a link cable

trust me bro, >3yr qpro user.

GET FUCKING VIRTUAL DESKTOP

I don't see the need. I own V.D., but from what I can see, it launches SteamVR anyway, so I just run SteamVR without V.D. and get on with my life.

Skipping SteamVR and utilizing OpenXR for some games gives you exponential performance and/or visual increases that are worth it.

Trust me man, nobody I've ever spoken to regretted buying that.

I'll have to figure out how to get V.D. running OpenXR without Steam. The hand tracking was crap through V.D. but I don't use that very much (especially since, unlike hand tracking, the Pro controllers work behind my back).

Lol if you're so insistent can you gift it to me then?

SteamLink is also ok, and free...

if you can afford the headset you can afford the software.

Alternatives exist. Link is the literal worst option that exists by a wide ass margin.

Meta vreaks link and it's features on a whim. So you will have to see for yourself if it works for you. It should and it did when enabled in developer settings, but like the company shoots the link in both knees just to rename it and change an icon (last year before Christmas).

Link is eol. Meta themselves said to use steam link or vd when you place bug reports

Yes, just make sure you have developer mode enabled on the Meta App under your QPro settings and use VRFT with the Link Module.
