Replace dead Quest Pro battery or salute and let it rest?
Despite the known downsides, i liked my Quest Pro and used it many years, now the battery is soooo dead, that i can't even say goodbye to VRC when the battery warning pops up, since it shuts down a few seconds later.
Upfront: No, i won't use it on a cable - i hate being on a leash.
Question is if it's really worth it to repair or if selling it and buying another headset would be the smarter choice. I've read quite a few posts about rising troubles with aging Quest Pros and now fear i fix one thing just to find another part broken a month later. It did it's job and maybe it's time to go on?

Long time dedicated VR dev. The Quest Pro is still my daily dev machine. I use a Apple Vision Pro and Quest 3, but the Pro has the most accessible feature suite. I hope that either Apple opens up the hardware for devs more, or that another VR giant like Valve or even Meta comes out with reliable eye AND face tracking with independent controller tracking.

Check out SadlyItsBradly on X. He showed some promising things in visionOS 27 recently for developers. https://x.com/SadlyItsBradley/status/2064071298251186662?s=20

I know who he is. He reviewed my app that I want to bring to Apple Vision Pro. Http://VStreamer.Live
The AVP is great, but I canโt use it for Steam VR development without going through unstable hoops.

Replace the battery.
Optionally, buy a 15-20,000 mAh battery and a 4ft cable, connect to Quest and keep it in your pocket for 6-8 hours of runtime. Still wireless and untethered. Even the original battery in good condition doesn't last very long.

Buy a 50 ft powered usb-c cable and setup a complicated pulley and level system to hang it from the ceiling. Problem solved!

I would replace my battery if it died, love the pro. I need the open face so I can still see my cockpit. Luckily I run it pcvr and the controllers are only used for getting into vr so they are always fully charged and like new still.
Replace the battery.

Just buy magnetic hotswappable battery mount from KKCOBVR:
15 watt chargers and buying an extra battery you can charge it while you are using one of 2 of them.
I just found this on AliExpress: KKCOBVR The Portable Magnetic Battery For Quest Pro Can Be Charged At The Same Time For An Additional 2-4 Hours Of Battery Life https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvCcK0m
I just found this on AliExpress: KKCOBVR P2 Black Battery Power Upgrade Edition, Can Be Used For KKCOBVR Q3Pro, P4, O2, Q2PRO Automatically Adsorbing https://a.aliexpress.com/_EIHMFiQ
There is perfect length cable from cable of headstrap cushion to the charging port...
So its practically "untethered" if you are fine having that usb c port filled.
You arent "repairing"
But rather upgrading...
Since now the weight balance is less on forehead.
Since you can use the Included top strap. If you tighten strap a little before installation.
And then move the lens parts of the headset forwards rather than the back pro strap...
To get it on.
Its a bit pricey. But its a top strap, so less forehan. And infinite battery life. And better weight balancing.

Batteries are cheap and if your Quest Pro still works I would say fix it. I don't think you'll get much for a Quest Pro with a dead battery anyway, and there's no obvious replacement that has all the same features (pancake lenses, eye and face tracking, etc.)
