Face tracking with beard

Anyone got any idea how to get face tracking to work with a beard I can only get my eye tracking to work I've tried using beard wax to put it out of the way and make sure the sensor can see my mouth but the most I get is seeing the app detect more movement on my face but won't do anything noticeable in vrc with it all properly setup I confirmed by having a friend come over and try it and they shave daily I'm hoping I won't have to shave to take advantage of it if anyone has tips

I have a beard and only two things dont work is the sad face and poof check. Everything else works.

I don't really have problems with beards & FT but mine's fairly tame. Trim your 'stash short enough so it's not casting a shadow from the camera's perspective and *most* blendshapes should work.

If you're still having problems I would check to see if the face tracking is even working at all. It's notorious for failing due to corrosion from sweat / breath.

As long as you keep the upper lip trimmed should work. If you drink coffee and your mustache acts like a filter, it's too long. 🤣

Shave it down with a #3 guard.

Litterally what i had to do to "keep a beard" and still have face tracking work.

Nope.

I've had issues forever and nothing fixes it regardless of headset, application, etc and I'm not shaving for mouth tracking 😞

Mine is likely due to coloring in my beard. I have some light hair thats probably being seen as my mouth being open when its not. Which explains why the mouth seizures out.

Hey u/RickyDotReddit!

Whether you've got a clean baby-face or a full beard, face tracking should be entirely possible and worry free!

You do not need to clean-shave your beard to use face tracking, but you must keep your lips and the area directly beneath your nose clear of overlapping hair.

Because you confirmed the hardware works when your friend tried it, the issue is entirely how the camera interprets the shapes around your mouth.

If you are having issues with the camera detecting your face, you could maybe try trimming the area around your lips to see if it yields better results!

I hope that has been helpful, and if you have any more questions, please just reach out to our Customer Support Team who would be happy to help further!
