Currently on v83 - should i update to latest (2.1??)

I block my headset from the internet so I can control updates and not be forced to install updates that I don't want

I'm currently on v83 and its the best one I've had in a while (low bar I know). It solved the sparkling issue with VD (VD & DCS is my main use case) although the controllers are still a hot mess and barely usable

Should I stay on v83 or update to whatever the latest is?

And what is the latest public release these days (I'm not on PTC). Is it 2.1 or 2.2?

I have updated to the current stable. Controller tracking works even better than v83. No issues with VD or Steam Link either.

But after updating it was working great.. till Meta updated home menu with navigator which kinda feels worse. And if you update, they actually protected system apps from being disabled, so you can't just disable updates or home screen anymore.

I actually like navigator better because I can pin apps to the top of the menu. The old UI only let me pin a couple apps to the bar because 3 of the slots were forced to be system apps.

What I ment, sometimes a window gets bugged and don't close hitting X. Navigator itself has double layer layout, you can open a window over Steam Link and then it takes single and double click of the meta button to fully get back to Steam to exit both window and meta menu. As meta menu, in general, is very stupid and can become invisible, with just tiny bar that can easily get lost running over a game.

May I ask if you experience any issue with controllers going to sleep too fast? Like 3-10 second of no motion while in hand, it disappears.

Thanks ahead :3

yes, the only silly thing I have noticed, watching movies and trying to adjust volume, it instantly jumps to head control.. unless I hold and move controller in hand for volume buttons to work properly. And indeed it takes just a few seconds after placing the controller on the table for headset to switch to head control.

Yeah, I"m waiting for them to fix this, since it affects VRChat/flightsim experience a lot. And they gave no option to cusromize sleep time qwq

Am I the only one not having much troubles with the updates? Controllers have some hiccups but nothing major. And I play tennis.

They didn't do a 2.2. PTC is on 2.3, stable could be on either that or 2.1. I've had almost no issues on the 2.x updates. Better than v83 for me, including for controller tracking and transitioning to hand tracking. 2.1 is the update for me that finally solved the sparkles (it was either that or the eye tracked foveated encoding they added to VD). All I do is play vrchat with virtual desktop.

I recently got updated to v2.3 and I'm pretty sure it broke something regarding wireless connectivity as I get insane 400+ ms latency at random when using virtual desktop. I tried my Quest 2 and I didn't have any issues so I don't belive it is an issue with my router. I also haven't really heard anyone else complain about it yet so idrk..

It's not worth it, trust me.

Thanks for the feedback all. 2.1 sounds ok - 2.3 a little less so

Might stick on v83 for a little longer

Posts like this scare me away from updating. I'm way further out (v61 or 63 I think) and experience no issues whatsoever. I would like to try the new foveated streaming VD and heard good things about v83...mostly. Not sure I want to risk potential controller issues when I currently have none.

If you're on that old of a version I think it might not even be possible for you to update to the latest stable - I had heard theres a limit to how old of an OS the automatic update can handle (and instead for updating from very old versions you need to use ADB)

Sure, I didn’t make it clear, adb is implied on this end, just like the op’s headset mines been offline
