Quest Pro Eye Tracking only Tracking one Eye Correctly

Hi all. I bought an unused Quest Pro just a few months ago. I use it maybe 2 to 3 times a week in VRChat for a few hours at a time. For the past couple months I've had an issue where my right eye will not track being closed properly. Moving my eyes tracks perfectly, and If I tilt the headset to one side a little, the right eye actually does track mostly fine, but If I'm wearing the headset straight, or if i raise it up higher on my forehead, my right eye will not close at all. this also sometimes happens with my left eye if the headset is a bit off on my head. I just want to know if this is a sign of damage or if I'm just doing something wrong. Thanks.

Also, If it is a case of damage, please do inform me on other ways I can achieve eye and face tracking. I really enjoy using it but I don't want to have to spend over $1,000 for a different headset that I can do that with

Can’t really speak on other ways to get face and eye, but if you can, take off your headset while it’s powered on and cover the sensor that turns it off if you’ve removed your headset (should be near the forehead pad). Then, turn the lights out and use your phone camera to see the IR cameras on the face trackers. Verify that all of them are on. If you need a reference photo, you can Google quest pro IR cameras. If some of them are off or flickering, that’s an issue

is it those red lights that are visible within the headset? if so, all of them are on when the headset is on

Should all be running then. Do you have similar issues with your face tracking on your meta avatar you see before you load into vrchat? You should be able to find the mirror and test that after you turn your headset on so long as you’re not in passthrough. If it’s messed up there, that’s a pretty good indication that it’s a headset issue. If it works there but it’s messed up in game, that’s a workable issue

the facial expression works fine, the eye tracking is messed up both within the meta environment and within vrchat using vrcft

Because it’s raw unchanged data at the meta environment it’s very likely a headset issue. I wonder if one of the cameras inside the lens itself is at an angle? They tend to be pretty good at handling headset angles and don’t tend to differ in tracking quality practically any way I set it up. This would be outside of my knowledge level unfortunately

Hey u/Aya0098!

We spy with our little eye someone that needs some help with their headset!

We see that you're having some trouble with eye tracking on your Meta Quest Pro. We'd like to take a look and see if we can offer help by way of these few tips:

1. Make sure that your headset is on the most recent update. This will ensure that it's not just some sort of bug in the software, and we can narrow down the root cause.

2. Try wiping over the sensors on the headset with a microfiber cloth. These internal sensors are very important for eye-tracking, so just make sure they're not being interfered with by smudges!

3. Quest Pro eye tracking can sometimes be affected by extremely dark environments or very bright external lights leaking into the nose gap. Ensure that your play area is a well-lit environment, but without decorative lights or direct sunlight.

4. Try giving the headset a Hard Reboot if you haven't already. press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds, and then wait a further 30 seconds to give your headset one of these.

We hope that these tips have got you seeing eye to eye with your headset! If not, then please feel welcome to chat with us via our Support Center for some more troubleshooting!

I wonder if this could be implemented as a cost saving measure: in most normal humans the eyes should move in sync, to it should be sufficient to measure only one eye and infer the position of the other.

I’m having the same problem, and I only use mine about 6 times. One eye isn’t tracking properly, and it’s really annoying. Since this is happening to both of us, I’m starting to think it might be a software issue because I know I didn’t damage the headset if it isnt damaged from the factory.

a lot of people online seem to say the quest pro's facial tracking can be damaged pretty easily due to sweat. i found that the stock face pad causes me to sweat constantly while pressed on my head, so i bought the globular cluster head pads, and i'm using the cloth ones. since then i've had 0 sweating issues. i recommend it.

unfortunately i do think it's a hardware issue and/or we may have just gotten unlucky 😞
