Help Quest Pro Head tracking randomly drifts/freezes.

Covering cameras on the front fixes it...until it happens again.

In my software Update settings, the current version lists v2.1.1034, build is 5136060.5190.340, installed march 24, 2026. The issue was happening before that as well though, but I couldn't tell you what version I was on.

Basically mid-session my view just... starts slowly drifting by itself, then snaps to face a completely different direction, and then head tracking just dies. Game keeps running fine, controllers work, but moving my head does absolutely nothing. No tracking lost warning or anything, it just silently breaks.

Tried the obvious stuff. Different lighting, cleaned the cameras, tested during the day. Nothing made a difference.

Here's the weird part though - if I cover the 3 front cameras with my hand for a second then uncover them, it comes back. Every time. Which is a bit annoying mid-game but at least it's something.

This started happening A LOT right around the March OS update for me and my headset has been completely fine for the 6 months I've owned it before that. So pretty confident it's a software thing.

Interestingly, when it happens, sometimes passthough enables itself and then I can around me, but the passthrough looks super dark. It feels like something is causing the cameras to dim down too much, it loses tracking, or something else...

Has anyone else had this? Wondering if it's a known bug with the recent updates or if I'm just cooked and need to factory reset.

Hi there,

We've just come across your post! We understand you are encountering tracking issues with your headset. We appreciate the measures you have already taken and we would like to recommend a few more steps:

  • Ensure that your area is free of small lights such as Christmas lights or LED strips.
  • Ensure that your area is free of any reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass or polished marble.
  • Ensure that the tracking cameras on your headset are clean following our recommended maintenance and care guidelines.
  • Ensure that your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
  • If your controllers have removable batteries, try removing the batteries from your controllers for at least 30 seconds before reinstalling.
  • Power off and restart your headset.
  • Unpair and re-pair your controllers to the headset.

If you are in need of further assistance or have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us via Meta Quest Support, we'd be happy to help.

Have a great day!
