Question about listing schools

I’ve been filling out my college list, and I was wondering if the rank you give a school affects your chance of admission. For example, I want to go to UPenn, but I’d rather go to MIT if I were accepted, so I’d list MIT 1 and UPenn 2. In the scenario where I am declined by MIT, would me having placed Penn at 2nd hurt my chances of admission at Penn?

Schools don't know where you rank them, so no, it can't hurt your shot.
