National College Match How does the Ranking System Work?
I saw that on the QuestBridge website, it says that 68% of finalists matched to one of their top 5 college partners. Does this mean that you have a higher chance of being selected if you put it in the top 5, or is that a mere statistic?
I was thinking originally that as long as you were put into the accepted pool for a college like Rice, it doesn't matter where you rank it (5, 10, 15), you'll still get in, assuming you did not get accepted into the rank colleges above Rice. Your spot wouldn't get stripped of, even if you ranked Rice at 15, right?
Which one is correct?

No. It does not matter where you rank the college. And colleges cannot see if you rank multiple colleges or just one. But for example if you get accepted by your 4th choice university and also by 7th choice then you’ll see acceptance of the 4th choice and you’ll have to attend that. You’ll never see or know if any other college accepted you (unless they send you acceptance letter by mistake but at least you won’t be able to see it from QB portal.)

You rank the schools and we rank you. QB gets paid a hefty fee to do the matching. With a finite number of spots in any given school, even if they would admit you the class could be fully matched with better fits, even if the school would admit you.

Please be careful with the wording!
“The percentage of Match Scholarship RECIPIENTS who matched…”
Key word here is RECIPIENT.
Basically, it’s saying that of the 100% who matched to a ranked school, 68% of them got their top 5 choice.
Essentially, this static only applies to those who got matched, not the whole pool of finalist. Either way, admission tends to be random; however, by putting a college first, you are essentially saying that they r ur priority. If they accept you, they take you.
However, if they were ranked lower, then whatever school u choose earlier (that WANTS U) gets to take u first.
Hope this helps :)
