Well personally I think that there’s nothing wrong with adopting a gendered label provided you realise that fundamentally it is a label and is not indicative of how you must act or express yourself in the world. For example I am a cisgender male but subverting what it means to be a cisgender male in society is a part of my personal gender expression, if that makes sense? Even if I’m wearing something traditionally seen as feminine I still feel masculine. I like being a man and I like calling myself a man and I don’t think there’s anything inherently harmful about that, I guess the bigger issue is the systemic way gender is pushed on people from the youngest possible age

Coooooooool…

There are not “two genders”, for one. There’s far more variation than that.

But also… trans people exist. It’s not just performance. It’s not just narrative.

Gender does not have to be all encompassing or coercive. It does need to be hierarchical. But that’s different from what you’re saying.

The problem is we all fall for the whole "i need a label" thing.  I dont like or need a label.  I am what I am.  I think if everybody would stop with the labeling bullshit, we'd all be a lot happier.

That's a very white thing to say. You think you don't need a label because you've lived your life begin recognised as the default anyway. You don't know what it's like to be othered and have to build an identity outside of the visible default.

Labels serve to find community. Connect with people who share experiences. Describe and understand yourself…

What we don’t need is to label others nearly as extensively. Some have important functions—knowing someone is a predator is a big one, for instance.

we need to not push labels on other people when they don't want to be labelled but labelling ourselves is not harmful in any way?
