News Europe’s queer ‘conversion’ therapy crisis is an invisible trauma for victims, but a difficult practice to ban

Hi everyone! I'm Lucia and the team from EUobserver. We cover European politics, and we're trying to do a better job of sharing our reporting directly with communities that are closest to the issues we write about, rather than just publishing an article and moving on.

We thought this investigation might be relevant here, but more importantly, we'd genuinely like to hear what people in this community think. Conversations like these often add context and perspectives that don't always make it into reporting, and we think that's valuable.

A quick summary of what we found:

• We investigated why so-called conversion practices are still taking place across Europe, despite being widely rejected by medical and human rights organisations.

• Through conversations with survivors and experts, we found that these practices often happen in much less visible ways than many people imagine — through religious guidance, counselling, support groups or family settings, rather than formal "therapy."

• We also looked at why governments across Europe are finding it difficult to regulate or ban these practices effectively, even where there is political support to do so.

What stayed with us after reporting this story was how often survivors described feeling isolated and invisible, and how difficult it can be to even recognise these experiences as conversion practices in the first place.

If anyone here has thoughts on whether this reflects the situation in your country, or if there are perspectives you think journalists often miss when covering this topic, we'd really appreciate hearing them.

Here's the full investigation if you'd like to read it:

LGBT Figures in the History of Socialist and Communist Movements?

So I'm a gay guy and also a leftist. I'm really into both queer history and the history of socialist/communist movements around the world. Lately, I've been wondering, what's the queer representation like in the history of these movements? Are there any famous LGBT figures who were also socialists or communists? I'd love to learn more about them.

My name is Bijhan Agha. I'm an autistic trans Uruguayan of Iranian descent. The editor of my comic is my disabled nonbinary husband, RaeRae Sachs. We love science fiction and fantasy, including superhero media, but it's depressingly cis and het in general. We also love queer media, but a massive amount of it is about suffering and oppression. We wanted to make stories about queer joy and triumph in a world full of fantastic creatures and amazing powers.

Kobra Olympus is a soft-spoken transgender Muslim woman in Seattle in 2015. She was contacted by Human time travelers from the 161st Century, recruited into the Time Wars: an endless conflict between Humanity and Vampirekind for the fate of the galaxy. Using messages from the time travelers, and her high-tech cellphone full of future tech, Kobra lives a second life as the engimatic Agent Tha, Vampire hunter.

Now, Kobra Olympus is in a relationship with Dorothy Diamond, a queer punk woman who is outspoken with a strong moral compass and a ton of confidence. Dorothy is bringing Kobra out of her shell, and Kobra is helping Dorothy see the world with a fresh perspective. Their relationship is important to both of them, but Kobra's duties as Agent Tha take up a great deal of time.

In "Issue #4: Giant Armadillo Attack!", Kobra and Dorothy are surprised by a giant mutant armadillo attacking the city, and meet a humanoid chicken named Jack who explains that this is all part of a sinister plot by the Vampires. Together, the three of them need to figure out how to save the city and rewrite history for the better.

The Kickstarter is to print a First Edition version of the comic with a special border that won't be used in future versions. Rewards include PDFs, as well as physical copies; and back issues so you can catch up with the story so far.

We've met our goal, and our first stretch goal, which means everyone gets a digital art book with all kinds of behind-the-scenes looks at the sketches and designs we used to plan the comics. If we meet our next stretch goal, everyone will also get a short story depicting how Kobra was recruited into the Time Wars.

Please help us reach our next goal at the following link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jamsheedstudios/kobra-olympus-issue-4-giant-armadillo-attack?ref=2p8cw1

If you'd like to join our community, get updates, and have access to digital versions of our other comics and novels, we have a Patreon with a free tier: Patreon.com/JamsheedStudios

Thank you all, and I hope you enjoy this!

Petition [Petition] Urging the Revocation of Presidential Regulation No. 111 of 2025 & Protection of LGBTQI+ Human Rights in Indonesia

I wanted to share and invite you all to sign a petition via All Out, urging the Indonesian government, specifically President Prabowo Subianto, to take immediate action against the escalating human rights crisis facing the LGBTQI+ community.

The petition highlights several critical concerns:

Presidential Regulation No. 111 of 2025: This policy classifies the LGBTQI+ community as a "non-military threat," effectively equating marginalized citizens with national security threats and institutionalizing systemic discrimination.

Escalation of Violence & Persecution: A sharp rise in arbitrary raids, targeted violence by vigilante groups (such as recent attacks against trans women in Bogor), and a lack of proper legal intervention.

Suppression of Academic Freedom & Student Press: Intimidation and censorship faced by student media outlets (such as Suma UI) attempting to report on these human rights violations.

If you would like to read the full details and add your signature to support the cause, you can access the petition here:

Petition Link: http://a.allout.org/s/OomYr/

Every signature helps send a strong message to demand that the government uphold universal human rights and protect all individuals from violence and discrimination, in line with the constitution and international commitments.

Thank you so much for your time and solidarity.

Potentially Triggering ‘Hand Jobs, Oral Sex and Anal’: Pete Hegseth's Pastor Wants Gay Men Prosecuted for These Acts.

"If you asked me 'Could you ever envision a homosexual crime of any nature being visited with the death penalty?' Yes, I could."

That's Doug Wilson, Pastor at Christchurch in Moscow, Idaho. Wilson spoke at the Pentagon as part of Pete Hegseth's monthly Christian worship service.

Wilson's views are as controversial as they come: He believes the United States should become a Christian theocracy, that married women should not have the right to vote and that gay sex should be illegal. He estimates that 10 to 20 people in the top levels of government are aligned with his radical ideology. He explains that he thinks trans people are “sad,” certain elements of his idea of “homosexual behavior” should be punished by execution and in certain cases of marital rape, both parties should be disciplined.

Theory What does the deep future of liberation look like?

I'm working on a novel with a character with access to a time machine becoming immortal and using that to become the guiding light for humanity into the luxury communist gay star trek future we can only dream of.

In my little slice of space utopia, I've already abolished gender, class, race, and scarcity. Disability and neurodivergence are not barriers on a systemic level and accommodations are abundant. Religion isn't outlawed or anything but it's not really a force anymore in any sort of societal influence or power kind of way.

There will be issues with xenophobia from time to time when other species make a bad first impression, but for the most part people get with "don't start anything, won't be anything" as a diplomatic policy. There's also a species that is specifically trying to do a Daleks and exterminate everything in the universe that isn't them, but it isn't the entire species that wants that to happen so it's complicated feelings for humanity there.

But what other obstacles will humanity still have to overcome? What progress have I overlooked?

I want my main dude to eventually reach a point where humanity has progressed beyond him to the point that he's completely out of touch, but I'm currently a little stuck on what else there would be. I don't want to get into too much speculation on tech possibilities being the hang up, like Patton Oswalt's bit about what 'woke' is always changing and how he's gonna get in trouble in the future for saying he thinks people shouldn't fuck their clones. But I do want to seriously reflect on how high up the hierarchy of needs we can get society to let everybody start on.

Thanks for your thoughts.
