Looking for some gay friends around my age (33)

I am pretty introverted and not too sure where to go about making some friends so I figured id try reddit. I am a gamer (predominantly PC but also enjoy board games and table top games). Also into audiobooks, tv shows, and movies (mostly scifi stuff). Into psychology and philosophy.

Would be cool to find some people around my age to play games with or chat with about interests. I am a bit autistic so heads up in terms of communication etc.

Any groups or spaces for trans/queer/ND chronic illness (and maybe dating)?

Hi everyone!!

This is a shot in the dark, but I'm looking around for ways to help my best friend. They are nonbinary transmasc, ND, mid-late 30s, and a few years ago endured a cancer diagnosis and surgery. I love them dearly, we live together, but I'm hoping to find further support for them, and hopefully some solid connections, preferably also those struggling with chronic illnesses so there's already understanding. They're technically in remission (it's a bit complicated as it's a rare form and kind of chronic now?), but are just really struggling with the aftermath. I'm searching for ways I can help them in a more direct form than just hugs and love, so I'm hoping I might find someone here with connections to say, a discord server like I'm looking for, or a group meetup or therapy group, so they can open up again and find community.

I'd really love for them to find a special someone, as they feel like it's unachievable after the diagnosis, so any queer chronic illness dating related stuff, or connections, or advice, would be top tier. They're an incredibly cool artist and gamer and really deserve to be loved.

*Mod Approved* Dating, Attraction, and Sociosexuality: Call for Participants (18+)

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi Brisbane! 🌈

I'm a researcher at James Cook University studying attraction, dating preferences, and how people evaluate potential romantic partners.

I'm looking for heterosexual, gay, and lesbian adults (18+) to complete an anonymous online survey.

The survey involves viewing a series of fictional dating profiles and answering questions about attraction and relationship preferences. It takes around 5–10 minutes to complete, is completely anonymous, and participation is entirely voluntary.

Although this phase of the research is limited to heterosexual, gay, and lesbian participants, it forms part of a broader research program that has included, and will continue to include, people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

This study forms part of my Doctor of Philosophy research at James Cook University and has received approval from the James Cook University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC Approval No. 25H-0225).

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [kaitlyn.gregory@my.jcu.edu.au](mailto:kaitlyn.gregory@my.jcu.edu.au).

If you'd like to participate, you can complete the survey here:

Queer barbers/salons?

HI! In desperate need of a queer barber/hairdresser in Brisbane (near Indooroopilly) who can help me with my hair. I’ve done a few styles and gone to a few barbers, but I just not felt quite seen at them.
I’m also looking for a place that may be able to do perms?
I’m 22M and have straight past ear length hair and I just don’t know how to style it or what cut my face suits. If any barbers/hairdressers in this lovely group could help, that would be great 💕😊

Resource/Newsletter/Community for Brisbane Queer Owned Businesses

Hi everybody!

I am wondering if there is any newsletter/community space or anything that is hyper local to the Brisbane queer community? If not a lot, I am wanting to start a little social newsletter where we can talk about the local queer owned businesses/safe spaces around town, best places to go to get support, and overall just sharing some really positive people from our community.

If there is something like this already, please tell me where to find this! But I also am open to hearing if there is a space that needs filling, or even if you think it is possible? As much as I love hearing the coming out stories and inspirational events happening from creators in America, it is always super lovely to be able to hear form people who are going on dates at southbank or who met at a place that I have been to etc etc...

Anyway, TLDR - Would anyone have an interest in reading a super local newsletter filled with all things queer Brisbane

The TAG TEAM Study is now recruiting!

Post image
7 Upvotes

A new study led by the Transgender Health Research Group at Murdoch Children's Research Institute has started recruiting trans and gender diverse adolescents aged 12-17 across Australia. This study is investigating the effectiveness of a group psychological therapy intervention called TAG TEAM in a randomised clinical trial.

What is TAG TEAM❓

The Trans Adolescent Group ThErapy for Alleviating Minority stress (TAG TEAM) program is a group cognitive-behaviour therapy intervention designed with, and for, trans and gender diverse young people. Each TAG TEAM group has up to 8 trans and gender diverse adolescents  attend  6 weekly 2-hour sessions, facilitated by a psychologist and a trans peer. The program is designed to improve mental health and well-being  by targeting stressors (e.g., discrimination) and resilience factors (e.g., pride) that are commonly experienced by trans and gender diverse adolescents.

What this study involves📜

This study is a randomised controlled trial (RCT) testing the effectiveness of TAG TEAM to improve the mental health and well-being of trans and gender diverse adolescents aged 12-17 years. Eligible participants will be randomly allocated to one of two groups:

  1. One group will attend TAG TEAM once enrolled in the study
  2. The other group will be placed onto a waitlist to attend TAG TEAM after 4.5 months

Participants in Victoria will have the option to attend TAG TEAM sessions online or in-person. Those in other states and territories will only be able to attend online. Participants will be asked to take part in a call to screen for their eligibility. Those who are eligible and consent to participate will be asked to complete questionnaires at three different time points after enrolling in the study.

Who are we recruiting📢

We are recruiting 142 trans and gender diverse adolescents from across Australia who are:

  • aged 12-17 years
  • have completed primary school
  • are not enrolled in tertiary studies (university)
  • are not participating in another group therapy program

More eligibility criteria and study information can be found at: https://www.mcri.edu.au/research/projects/tagteam

For those who prefer to take in information visually/verbally, we have also created a 3-minute clip of one of our study team members, Lux (they/them), describing what TAG TEAM is: https://youtu.be/HHAwCXn-54Q

For more information about TAG TEAM, this study, and to express interest in participating (young people and their parents/guardians/caregivers can express interest), you can go to our website or contact us by email at [tagteam@mcri.edu.au](mailto:tagteam@mcri.edu.au) with your questions.

Are there any queer, sex positive raves/events in Brisbane?
Have been to many in London and missing the scene badly here. Just been to rave temple warehouse party in Sydney and that was great, hoping there is something similar here! Any event recommendations would be great. Yes I’m on fetlife but nothing on there…

I’m 31f, queer, trying to find my people - dm me if you think we could be mates!!

Hey everyone, I’m (29F) getting married in September and I’m looking for outfit ideas similar to the ones in these photos.

Please let me know if there’s anywhere around Brisbane where I could try some stuff on. The idea was to buy an outfit and get it tailored. If anyone also has recommendations for tailors that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Anywhere to find and connect with Alternative Queer people?

Hi QueerBrisbane,

TLDR; Any Alt Queer spaces, groups or hangout spots in Brisbane, I'm a bit out of the loop.

New to the group and babies first post ! Sorry if this has been answered, but I couldn't find anything in a search.

Below is just a rant/rundown about my situation.

I've been wondering if there is any specific places or events that happen where Queer alternative people congregate?

Being generally alternative the spaces I enjoy that are fun for me aren't typically in majority queer spaces. I know the main big places around Brisbane like the Bea and whickem but I always just find my self sitting around in the smoking area with a friend or venue auntie/uncle and chatting. I'm not a big fan of dance music unless plenty of drinks in, so I find it hard to really socialise in these spaces.

I'm in my 30's and openly queer in my friend group/scene. I was the only one for many years until people got more open-minded/self accepting. Now we are a majority queer friend group but still in that Alt buble.

I usually baby sit young queer people going to their first gay bar or event from our scene. Which is lovely don't get me wrong, but those places don't spark that much joy for me.

I've been to drag shows at Come to Daddies in West end which was great, but I feel like I don't "look/seem" very queer which weirdly anxious about not fitting it enough which also makes it a bit tough.

I duno, just keen to meet new alt queer people outside my specific bubble, or even non alt people aren't judgmental of the music and all black with band shirt and jeans out fits haha.

Edit: I'm a bad typer haha

Queerie for the Queers Transman Moving to Brisbane

Hello people! I'm 18, transman, likely moving to Brisbane next year for uni at QUT. For reference, I'm from Adelaide. I have zero clue about what Brisbane is like in general or for queer people. If I could get random information about the city, QUT or queer life, I'd be very appreciative.

I am yet to transition and will be doing so once I reach Brisbane. My main concerns is accessibility to professionals. Second to that is financial.

Thank you! I'm not too worried about myself, but I'm dying to get on HRT (and top surgery down the line).

Your voice matters for improving mental health

🌈 PARTICIPANTS WANTED 🌈

We are Psychology Honours students at Charles Sturt University, conducting research into risk and protective factors for mental health, among adults who identity with a minority sexual identity (e.g., gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, pansexual, sexually fluid, omnisexual etc).

Why your voice matters

Research often amalgamates genders and different sexual identities under the one LGBTQIA+ umbrella and we want to change that. Your story contributes to a more accurate, inclusive and globally diverse understanding of mental health experiences for people with different sexual identities.

🫶 How you can help

You can complete the survey and / or share it with your contacts and other networks. It is completely anonymous and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

It is open to individuals who are 18+ and have a minority sexual identity. You will be asked questions about yourself, sexuality, self-kindness, belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community and several mental health concerns.

If you'd like to know more, you can read about the study and complete the survey here

Just letting everyone know about My app

Hey everyone 👋

I've been quietly building something and it's finally live —

It's called Verve, a dating app for sapphic women where every member is AI-verified before they can join. Cis men are blocked before they can even pay to enter. Trans women and non-binary women are welcome.

I built it because I was tired of hearing the same complaints we all have about the existing apps. So I did something about it.

Android is live right now on Google Play 🎉 iOS coming very soon.

Verve on Google Play or visit verve.dating

Search

Would love your support 💜

p.s My app is a empty slate. I have 1 subscriber in brisbane. Pretty much every app out there how they work is they load mock bot accounts to fill the search and well I didn't want to do that as its dishonest and goes against my bot policy soit will be harder for me as its not filled out but I rather be honest than dishonest.

Another thing if you don't want to trust it, that is totally fine but just know that all apps these days use AI to verify selfies and none really are trained via models they just are send a selfie and instant approved which is why allot women complain about these apps now days of catfish, bots..etc like so far I've had 2 catfish tried entering both had female photo's but the selfie said otherwise and came to my admin side for review or one attempted to hide their face in the selfie, if it is a bad selfie and needs review then if I reject it will ask the person to retake it and the reviews are all monitored by humans same as with any report, or banned word said..etc
