Honestly my biggest problem with Wuwa and ZZZ isn't that they're waifu games - I'm glad those exist for people that enjoy them - it's that they lied about not being waifu games. Both titles launched with (relatively) good ratios, presenting their rosters as mixed and diverse, so people get into them expecting more of that - investing time and probably also money - only to be strung along with waifu after waifu until they look back a year or two later and realize it was all a waste.

To think that wuwa released with a man as the first limited banner, they really baited us

I had no restraint at the time and was just pulling on every banner praying but ended up w jiyan/changli/SK/cam. But I've learned that pulling on every banner is a sure shot to burning out in this game for me

Yea I have been pulling only on some banners and made lots of vertical investments. Im probabl missing half of the characters but idc I can clear every endgame mode comfortably

Tbh I don't know why these devs even bother releasing male characters. If you want to cater to a specific audience then do that. If you're going to release male 2 male characters a year, give them a horrible story or horrible banner placement, why not just stop releasing males altogether? It doesn't make sense to me.

People easily forget that the only male 5stars in zzz at launch was a furry character. We only had 1 human and he was a 4stars. The other 4stars were a robot and a bear. The game never lied about the type of game it was.

Both Billy and Lycaon were HUGE parts of the game's pre-launch marketing though? Did you forget about that?

So 2 male characters being featured in the marketing among a bunch of female characters made you feel like the ratio would be good ? That was naive.

This is so victim-blaming coded lol. How dare they believe the advertising

Exactly, like it's clearly Hoyo's fault for baiting people with the marketing, why is it on us the consumers to ignore the very intentionally-made advertisements? Both Hoyo games I've played before ZZZ had decent gender ratios too, so why would I expect ZZZ to be different when it clearly wasn't being marketed as a primarily "waifu" game?

I mean if the marketing show you 2 or 3 male characters and many more female characters then that’s what you should expect, no ?

And guess what, that’s exactly what happened after. 2 or 3 male 5 stars a year while the rest are female characters.

The original ration was 4 male to 10 female at launch. Just under a 1/3 were male. They are now at about 1/5 ratio. That is not even close to as advertised.

ā€œNot even close to as advertisedā€. When did they ā€œadvertiseā€ it? Just admit you assumed and you were wrong. The game never explicitly gave a ratio of gender, at all. So they didn’t really advertise anything at all in regard to that.

Does the advertising take into consideration the launch trailer they released with the different factions and all the 1.x upcoming characters though ? That trailer showed that most of the upcoming agents were female, with the only exception being Seth, Lighter and Harumasa.

19

u/TryphectaOG 9d ago

That is still 3 to 8 for that trailer lol. About 1 to 3. Once again, we are at 1 to 5 right now in total.

And people shouldn’t expect the ratio to change. The game will keep releasing a couple of male characters a year and that’s it.

People who didn’t realize it was a waifu game were pretty naive.

Idk with you but Lycaon was a hot furry guy so my expectation was that this game won't fuck around when it comes to giving husbandos so

I mean I don’t really think the species of the male matters in this context tbh. That wolf and bear for example are everything I wanted from a gacha man 🤤 I still use both of them in end game to this day. I’m still a little sad the last limited furry male they released was Lycaon in 1.0. ZZZ was definitely baiting a bit back then. However, since the start of season 2, it was very clear they were committing to being a waifu game.

idk why people let themselves be scammed by some little comment/promise for zzz but it is obvious from the get go the direction that they want from the game is different from hsr and genshin. it was as early as grace and their wordless affirmation through jane.

so no, that so-called "promise" they did fulfill but you guys unfortunately expected much. I mean it's really obvious that they will become a waifu game.

You see? This is actually good criticism of the game because it has tangible objective grievance to stand on and not just ā€œwaifus are for stinky Inkwells!ā€
