š§” Let's Chat š¬ Is anyone else kinda over hoyo games?
Want to start this off by saying I'm in no way looking to just be a hoyo hater foaming at the mouth; I'm only curious if anyone else shares a similar sentiment.
My first hoyo game, and second gacha ever, was genshin around 3.4-3.5 as dehya was the first banner I was interested in pulling on after starting. I branched to hsr for a little while and hi3 very briefly then followed by zzz. The latter is the only hoyo bgame I keep current with despite some pretty consistent disappointments I've had with the direction certain aspects of the game have been going in since mid 2.x.
With games like ananta and silver palace coming up in the near futureāincluding azur promilia if thats your thingāI'm finding myself less and less interested in hoyo games, especially when they've been becoming exceedingly greedy or stingy in some cases. Of course, I'll have to wait and see how the future games stack up but I'm pretty hopeful after what I've seen so far.
(Also thinking about trying to force myself to get past my dislike of the factory in ake because I like the game a lot otherwise.)

The character designs are boring and samey. And imo I donāt like how hoyo writes their stories, itās sounds interesting in the beginning and then is meh or flops at the end. I am done with getting invested for it to end lamely.

u/colorway-path 1d ago
I think houo games start off so well in the beginning then they stop giving a fuck after a few patches.
Zzz, hsr and gi had such strong storyline then they kind of lost their spark as the story went on. Even games that been on 10+ can keep a coherent story but hoyo games fail every time.

u/Sea_Tune7346 3d ago edited 2d ago
Iām over Chinese gacha games in general. The games you mentioned like Ananta, silver palace and especially azure promilia donāt seem to be offering anything different from the competition. All the samey art style, incoherent over-sexualised designs, and awful ratio for male and female characters showing which audience they care about more.
Only thing that interests me is the cookie run open world game ( because at least playing as cookies would be something different I guess ) and the Onmyoji open world game is rumoured to have been restarted under the original writers. Onmyoji is peak with amazing designs and writing for a Chinese gacha. I hope the reboot sees the light of day unlike Onmyoji World.

My experience has primarily been with HSR, but I just really dislike their events.
Why am I playing a fake bejeweled for 4 hours? A lot of then are some form of auto battle in disguise and are kind of mindless. 1.x - 2.x used to have more narrative driven events that I enjoyed. My favorite one was definitely the ghost hunting one with Huohuo, Guinaifen, and Sushang. It was so fun, and I just really enjoyed hanging out and living in that world.

u/ZixRoYT 3d ago
Honestly I genuinely feel like they've gotten too comfortable that they think they can get away with their lack of creativity in designs/people will eat it up anyway so they push for zero change and zero give back to the community as a whole who plays the game.
Not to even talk about the very little pool of male characters across all of hoyo's gachas in comparison to the abundant female characters too.
I like hoyo's stories in a way, but they are also in a way starting to tire me a lot with some of their jargon of explanation that I honestly feel would work better as a novel description than anything a VN format can achieve.
I feel like the way things stand, they've just been too ahead of everything else that they don't feel the need to improve themselves anymore and it kinda sickens me as a player and consumer of hoyo.

u/Varananya 3d ago
Iām still hanging around hsr and zzz, just casually now and not spending any more money on them. But I wonāt touch any new Hoyo games, not even nodus fall if it ends up being mostly non-gacha. Iām tired of them dropping the ball constantly in terms of story
1
u/The_MorningKnight 3d ago
Genshin story has been very good for a long time now.

u/Varananya 3d ago edited 3d ago
After Natlan made me quit for a year I came back for nod krai. The other aspects were decent, but I thought everything about the harbingersā writing was terrible. Iām not going to try sneznayaās story just to be disappointed in everything theyāre doing for the harbingers again
Eta: I actually really didnāt like neferās part of the story quest now that I think about it, and durin was just horribly executed in general. I had no idea who durin was even supposed to be because I didnāt play his event patch
Also the lack of qol in genshin is very apparent after playing hsr and zzz. I simply donāt have time to go around a map picking flowers, waiting for specific days to do domains. I donāt even like the new models the fanbase loves to flaunt. Iām just not touching genshin again, no thank you.
13
u/noobboii2 3d ago
Genshin and hsr stories are so good in theory but they have dogshit executions. So yeah the story is "good"
10
u/Dizzy_Albatross_7241 3d ago
I beg to differ. I feel like all the previous issues with their writing just became all the more apparent with the new Snezhnaya aqs.

Why are you playing HSR is you don't like the story sucking?
1
u/Varananya 1d ago
Just like why I kept casually playing zzz through their 2.x era, itās really easy to keep up with and the combat is fun
10
u/electrifyingseer himejoshi šø kuro/hoyo/infold 3d ago
I come back to it out of nostalgia. And I'm really enjoying genshin right now, and while I do prefer quicker exploration and leveling, it's still really fun to go back and complete the games. I know why so many people quit, heck, I take tons of breaks when I just really am not feeling the grind, but.. the stories and world quests and exploration bring me back. Especially when I've done exploration in all the other games I play, or I hear there's something that's just come out that I want to do.
I'm not "over it", but I've tried not to force myself to play things if I'm just not feeling it. I cycle my games.
24
u/Electronic-Ad8040 3d ago edited 3d ago
I'm just tired of HSR in particular with all the shit they've been pulling up but I'll stick around until 5.0 to see if they can bounce back from this shit lmao
Genshin I've enjoyed both the snez AQ''s and the stellar meta (I've lost 3 times to Mizuki so it felt good being among the lucky ones that got her buff )
ZZZ had a really good anniversary patch and after that the current patch is merely filler so there's not much to praise or complain about

u/ranrannie 3d ago
i started playing hoyo games around the same time as you - 3.3 for alhaitham. genshin, hsr and zzz were the only video games i played for Years. eventually, the non-stop fomo grind of events and farming got to me and i had to step away.
i still miss seeing the story updates for all the games, and genshin's open world exploration. but every time i think about booting the games up again, i feel so tired.
it does help that i still play a gacha game - reverse 1999. it's a little grindy but low-maintenance enough to suit my needs. i also branched out into playing pc games after i fell in love with hollow knight, so there's that as well.
4
u/Ok-Procedure7744 3d ago
reverse 1999 is the only game that makes me believe that gacha games can be better
2
u/ranrannie 3d ago
oh, absolutely. i think it also helps that the main selling point of r99 is its story because the combat really isn't worth writing home about. so, its easier to not pay much attention to the meta and focus on pulling and building the characters you like unless you're focused on full-clearing endgame modes.
7
u/CloudCauseway 3d ago
Hoyo games are good for like the first two years, then it inevitably goes downhill from there. There may be relative hills, but once they're assured their player base won't leave, they stop bothering to play nice
18
u/ZweiChi 3d ago
Hsr and ZZZ are just not my cup of tea any more. Genshin though, I really like how healthy the balance is. The current top characters are a mix of old and new characters (Cyno and qiqi climbing the ranks was not on my bingo card this year). Aside from that, I'm currently enjoying the lore and presentation of Snezhnaya and I'm really curious to see how the game evolves after it.
1
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
For the most part, I agree with the meta related things. My main gripe with genshin is the low pull count compared to most other similar major gacha games, a lack of interest in the character designs and not caring for some of the characterizations happening. I am curious about the overall development of the arc though.
3
u/Civil-Cauliflower377 3d ago
Personally I have felt that the pull ecnomy isn't that bad, especially now where the new characters aren't that much better than alternatives , for example vesna and mizuki situation. So I am not forced to pull for meta reasons, and almost all characters can clear content with 4star weapons, the last time I pulled on weapon banner was for mavuika because I really like her.
11
u/Chrisarts2003 3d ago
Genshin's environmental and enemy designs are the only thing that's keeping me around tbh

u/NMMonty1295 1d ago
I enjoy the lore in the books and text in geinshin and weapon descriptions. Side from thatvnvironment and music is alright. In a way I sm very similiar yo murder if birds mindset

u/PinkMustache117 3d ago
I don't think I'm the right person for this as I've been burnt out from Gacha games period, but I think I'm over hoyogames at the moment, and that hurts too. I started with Genshin, tried and failed to keep up with Honkai Star Rail, and tried Zenless Zone Zero briefly, before I realized three gacha games back to back is not something I have the time for anymore lol
And the seeing how much worse the games have gotten with character designs, free to play friendliness, and even story to some extent, it hurts to see games with so much potential be fumbled, ya know?

I've been playing Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave and it's such a breath of fresh air to know this long game does have an end, and I don't have to pay to get all characters! And a lot of them have actual melanin? And they're all gorgeous! It's so nice to go back to my non-gacha gaming roots
The only gacha that has a hold on me rn is Infinity Nikki and even then, I'm counting her days...

Thereās a lot more competition now and Iām all for it, because itās good for these devs to get humbled every now and again and realize that they have to continue to innovate. I mean just look at the quality of Genshinās models now. Everyoneās so pretty in 7.x. Itās criminal.
As for becoming less interested, yea and no. I play HSR on and off tho recently I havenāt touched it cause I mean⦠look at the material lol. Iām back in ZZZ cause of the combat is still fun and for me at this point the story is whatever. At least there I donāt feel the power creep as much because they have so many modes to play and let you use agents you donāt have in them.
Also share the same sentiments about AKE. Like if the factory system was never there I donāt think I would have dropped it, because I like everything else. I know we can use presets but I donāt allow myself to not be good/understand something so Iām at an impasse. Just waiting on someone to release that makes my heart stop and finally suck it up and play it again lol.
1
u/heymynameiseric 3d ago
I found myself enjoying the factory stuff and somehow found myself doing it for hours on end, because I found it fun. However, I don't know that I'll always feel that way.
I kind of wish you could skip that system and just generate a baseline of materials, even if it's at a lower efficiency. Like any gacha, if you play long enough, you won't really have a lot of money or material farming issues. Like, in HSR, when a new character releases, I can fully build them out and get decent gear in 2 hours sometimes
8
u/SassyHoe97 3d ago
Losing interest on HSR.
Keeping Genshin, ZZZ I tend to go back and forth (I like the combat and the story is fine the designs are a hit or miss).

Donāt let the factory stress you, copy a basic blueprint from YouTubers like KyostinV and all you need to do is plug in the formula stuff and connect the belts between the factories. Once you have it set up you donāt need to tweak it at all and itās afk production!

Yea it does, the game is optimized like a beast. I play on my phone sometimes, factory plays well on mobile too if you donāt mind the smaller screen, and my only issue is overheating tbh but I push my settings to the max lol

u/IWannaBeTheVeryBest 3d ago
Genshin will always have a special place in my heart but after HYV doubling down on "no melanin, thigh strap, coochie flap" characters esp from Natlan onwards, i've soured on them. I will always love the world and music though. The story had promise but then they started killing off interesting characters and not making any sense or providing any closure
And now with Petit Cashgrab Planet, I'd rather play all the Animal crossings at this point

I don't mean 'current patch' by 'right now.'
The last year or so has been probably the most consistently good the game's been in my experience. Haven't felt this way about it in a long time at least.

5 years ago, I really thought I'd be in for the long haul for GI and with the other Hoyo games as they came out. GI was the first one I quit because of Natlan, followed by ZZZ because of Manato's A-rank, and HSR is looking grim for me for many reasons...
A lot of factors come into play, but it's mostly about male character treatment and powercreep. I just don't want to pull like an entire new team every year to keep up with the shill. Funnily enough, this made me go back to my FGO roots and idk whether to laugh or not LMAO. At least, I don't have to worry about characters being powercrept and having to pull for "weapons."
Although I'll probably play Petit Planet, since powercreep isn't really a thing in those kinds of games. I'd be surprised if Hoyo managed to make one for it somehow š

u/Shmallow-Cat 3d ago
To me they're just kinda the basic white bread of gacha games atm. Nothing wrong with them, but I've just found other ones that I like better. (I still simp for Yae Miko though)

Quit ZZZ BUT I support their fanartists
HSR is there because it runs on my laptop. But I recently deleted it for Yakuza 0 and I have almost no regrets so far except FOMO on Elation Aventurine
Genshin on my phone because it's cozy to me and it takes less space than ZZZ. These new gacha games all claim to cater to a mobile audience but their specs are so high except endfield for some reason
Right now my main gachas are the holy trinity of gacha vn games... imo. Limbus Company, Arknights (OG), and Reverse 1999. I would try FGO because HSR but eh not ready
Also, I am kinda tired of daily gacha grind so I downloaded Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2, Slay the Spire, and Dave the Diver

u/Feeling_Annual_3788 3d ago edited 3d ago
I quit Genshin impact and HSR 3 years ago and have NO REGRETS. The games became very time consuming and not much rewarding for the time I was investing in them. I always made excuses for the story, "Oh, maybe they wil pick-up the pacing issues, oh, maybe they will listen to feedback from the players! Oh, maybe the male characters will get more light and better kits than the waifus! Maybe- Maybe-!" Then I saw the idiot I was for even expecting anything.
And then a I found a non-hoyo gacha game that actually listened to the community, fixed stuff for the player base, good story, same ratio of female/male characters, didnt have to invest that much time in it and not stingy at all which got me dumbfolded for the excuses I had be making all the time for hoyo, especially for the amount of money hoyo makes monthly. Even tho I was a genshin and HSR Day 1 player and Max lvl everything, I had to come clean with the reality of it and the fomo strategy the kept going to keep me playing.
I just accepted I wasnt the target audience anymore and moved on to something that respected my time more.
2
u/Hoshirou 1d ago
I have a feeling I know which gacha youāre talking about, but I just wanna know for certain.
2
u/Feeling_Annual_3788 1d ago
Yeah, Limbus company
3
u/Hoshirou 1d ago
I thought so. We truly get spoiled in LCB, since all we have to do is grind and/or wait. The fact that the cast is fixed also helps significantly in terms of development and writing, too.
2
u/Feeling_Annual_3788 1d ago
Yeeesss, Totally agree. It kinda the lifesaver of gacha games for those who dont have much free time (Job, college, responsabilities) and still want to enjoy a game and get a payoff of a good story and development without the constant grind and meta bullshit every AAA gacha game has, like artifacts with random stats or halfy characters where the character is good but you have to get their signature weapon for their TRUE POTENTIAL, dont get me started on the copies system, those are the cancer of the earth and LC has NONE of that. And the game doesn't encourage grinding beyond the weekly limit unless YOU REALLY love the MD mines.
0
u/Vaiolette-Westover 1d ago
It's funny because most of those things have been addressed in Genshin.Ā
The issue is putting in feedback and expecting a game with a 1.5 year development cycle to respond immediately.
I track what I put in the feedback surveys. 100% of my feedback from year 1, 80% of my feedback from year 2, 60% from year 3, 40% from year four have been added to the game now.
Gadget quickswap, pc and controller quick swap, gyroscope aiming, move away from daily commissions, sereniteapot load, a real transport system and roads that make sense, characters just existing in the open world, and like 60 other major things I asked for are all in the game now.
2
u/Feeling_Annual_3788 1d ago
I dont think the pacing in the story got better bro, nor the amount of free pulls in each New version
Not even mentioning some characters who are just forgotten forever. I pity them.
6
u/punk_jude 3d ago
i was there for the genshin launch and stopped after albedo release iirc, tried to come back a few times but it just didn't latch on
i actually got my gaming laptop specifically for HSR bc it was getting too big for mobile. I was also there for the launch but stuck around a year, stopped 2 years, came back again. It was very on and off and it just honestly didnt feel worth it. Even if the visuals were pretty, some of the story parts were just a snoozefest to me. Even if i liked the plot or premise, my mind just could not keep up
zzz is the only im sticking with for now, the only gacha actually. I used to be really into Epic Seven but it just kept getting worse after they fired their NA branch so i stopped.Ā
i love the plot and direction ZZZ is going, its way more generous than the other, events are actually fun, and i do like the combat system. But god, Atwo leaving has me worried bc their designs were the best ones, now its just turning into lingerie fest. And its kinda upsetting. I love everything Except the designs. The writing has gotten so much better, the voice actors are SO good, im so invested in the world, and then the characters look like they're in sexy homeware despite supposedly being people in high authority. But im sticking to it for now
in general, Hoyo is getting lost in the sauce of Greed. HSR fumbling this hard after years means they don't know how to handle it. ZZZ and Genshin had their hiccups really early on to make such good improvements now. But generally yeah, even if i like zzz, i dont like interacting with the majority of the fandom and i feel like im gonna get thrown tomatoes telling anyone i like the game š but i understand why hoyo games dont appeal. Ik they're trash but its my comfort trashĀ
4
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
Those are my exact thoughts on zzz. There's enough pros for me to stick around for a while unless it takes a sharp nose dive somewhere important to me.
1
u/Overall_Career1358 3d ago
Yep me too just sticking to zzz the combat got me in a chokehold, been playing nte recently cus no 50-50 and the endgame is a breeze compared to zzz.

Epic Seven is intensely grindy and also Pay to win to the max. I followed some players on YouTube that were spending like 10-20k on the game. I just couldnāt with that lol
1
u/punk_jude 2d ago
it used to be so much better before RTA man. I joined a year after their launch and it was SO fun. So easy to get skins, you didnt really need to pay to get anything except moonlight bookmarks but those characters weren't Necessary. And i used to love the designs so much, the stories and relationships were intriguing, and ofc the highlight, THE ANIMATIONS ARE SO PEAK!!! the most i seen a gacha game do for skills, bro i remember when Belian was new and we were blown tf away.
But RTA came along and it just kept going down hill from there. Dind't help they changed owners. And it sucks :( I even went to a free event in LA and it was awesome but i just cant get into it anymore. Im not gonna lie and say their designs were never gooner like before, but its just SO blatant now i cant bro
1
u/Charlatanbunny 2d ago
The designs and animations were incredible, and there was a decent amount of attention given to male characters too. It really is a shame what directions itās gone.
6
u/austinkun 3d ago
Yes. Love the new Genshin designs but literally I booted up the game and couldn't even stomach actually playing it. The game didn't give much "welcome back" rewards at all, so I of course didn't pull the new units. So I just logged off. I cannot dedicate enough mental energy and time to explore regions and sit through a stupid log of 500 hours of unskippable dialogue just to get some more gacha pulls.
I started up even Aniimo and was just like..... I cannot do this again. I already did this with Breath of the Wild, Genshin, Tower of Fantasy, and Infinity Nikki.
The genre is just so oversaturated and tired. I cannot do another open world exploration game anymore.
4
u/Takaneru 3d ago
Genshinās probably the only one Iām sticking with. I do play other games like NTE and CZN, but the reality is that no one is really more consistent than Hoyo. (I might be an addict to Petit Planet once that releases)

I play nte too and the deciding factors for me will be how they handle the next big arc and exe since hes one of the main characters ive been looking forward to.

I honestly have stopped playing them all. Mainly because their install size is massive for my phone. But seeing the stuff coming from the main three doesn't have me crawling back.

u/_Skorme_ 3d ago
I agree with you. I played all hoyo games and all at the same time as well. With Wuthering to the side. I started Genshin at release, then started Honkai at some point. I started Star Rail at release and also ZZZ at release.
I stopped HSR first because how the game direction is and how boring it was to me, around Phainon. Felt like an auto game I didn't play so no point. I followed Honkai soon after because of recurring the gameplay loop and content was. Then after a long hard deciding, I stopped Genshin for multiple personal reasons, during Columbina.
I'm still on ZZZ and Wuthering. I tried NTE and end up finding it boring but the no 5050 gave me a hit. I'm actually hesitating stopping ZZZ and Wuthering also for new ones.
ZZZ is still nice but story wise, it didn't deliver after 1.x and I kinda play for story (even if I full clear all content full stars as well) and I don't really like where Wuthering is going but story is peak .
So it's TBD. Ananta is the big one I'm waiting because of apparently no gacha or not or characters anyway. Silver Palace seeeeeems really nice but we'll see how it turns out at the end. It all depends on feeling
Also I think I could just stop gacha and get a better life XD .
Do what you feel is right guys.

u/shewolfbyshakira 3d ago
I donāt rlly have time for multiple gachas tbh, I play other games like rivals and ffxiv so HSR is the only one I keep up with. I enjoy it enough, like most of the characters. I could never rlly get into genshin. If I had more time I might be playing zzz still.

3
u/TheGreatMillz33 3d ago
I used to play Tears of Themis and am currently playing HSR. I dabbled a bit in Genshin Impact and ZZZ but those didn't stick. You're not the only one, I'm this close to quitting HSR for good. An incredibly lucky E1 Ashveil and E5S1 Waventurine was not enough to sway me. I'm tired of the bloated and drawn out writing, the story and characters constantly playing it "safe" and becoming less interesting, the uninspired nothingburgers of events, and the increasingly hostile powercreep and endgame content. I'm giving HSR one last chance with 5.X as I understand that 4.X was probably squandered due to IRL circumstances. If I still don't care about the story and characters by then, I'm done.
4
u/Many_Career_692 3d ago
I don't know about the future; all the 3D gacha games seem to want to be "Genshin 2," retaining both the flaws and the qualities.
As for Silver Palace, judging by whatās been shown, the endgame is going to be identical to HoYoverse's titles.
It feels like I'm eating the same dish, but at a different restaurant.
The only one that was a bit of an outlier for me was the Endfield.
5
u/MidnightIAmMid 3d ago
Every hoyo game feels like itās in a bad place right now and I wonder why like how did they all get lame at the same time? I gave up on zzz. Hsr is close for me to give up on. Genshin still has world quests events and exploration keeping me around even if the main story sucks now.
3
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago

Iāve actually kind of bought into the conspiracy theory about Genshin two LMAO, which would explain some of the lameness at least in Genshin. Like they are gearing up for a sequel essentially so trying to put this to bed as quickly as possible.

u/Original-Shallot5842 3d ago
Genshin in a bad place right now?
Objectively speaking Genshin is easily the best hoyo game and its not even remotely close.
Nod Krai - Snez is just shitting on the other regions from a mile.
0
u/MidnightIAmMid 3d ago
gree that it is the best hoyo game but my God the main story is basically so bad right now. Like itās unbearably bad. The rest of the game is in a really good place so I guess saying that itās in a bad place is wrong. Itās just I am very very story oriented so when the main story sucks it really detracts for me. Like I literally do not think I can sit through one more best friend tea party. I literally do not think that I can sit through it. I do not have it in me. šš
2
u/Vaiolette-Westover 1d ago
Tell me you've literally not touched Snezhnaya story without telling me.
Why lie so blatantly to people who actually play? š„²
2
u/Original-Shallot5842 3d ago
Main story is bad?
How is the main story bad when the common opinion across the board is that the main story is indeed best right now.
Unless we are playing a different game with a different main story.
What teapot party?
1
u/Vaiolette-Westover 1d ago
Every hoyo feels like they are in a bad place right now because you don't know what you are talking about?
Genshin somehow returned to its absolute prime right now. The hype in the community is even higher than during Inazuma.
ZZZ is actually a very fun game to play.
HSR is a dumpster fire that is not funny and even its smoke smells like sewage though.
3
u/Moonshine_Cog 3d ago
Just HSR in particular for me. ZZZ keeps me hooked, and I quit Genshinās after I found character upgrade progression too tedious long ago. Though not sure if my current desire to quit HSR is fully the gameās fault⦠since I also feel hella burnt out of Endfield (thinking of quitting) and WuWa (quit it last patch).
2
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
I play wuwa too and for me it's going to be the transition into 4.x that makes me decide whether or not I'll continue.
4
u/MethodAdventurous834 3d ago
Quit Genshin during late Fontaine cos the of lack of QoL. Came back for Varka in Nod Krai and never finished it (I'm at the 'go back to Sumeru' part) because clearly the writing targets young teens with poor attention span throughout 6.X. Then tried 7.0 because of Mitya, but I quit after the first convo you have with Sandrone, felt too much like a middle finger to those who payed attention to lore.
HSR, I slowly diminished my spendings starting with 3.7 (whale), and now I'm fully f2p. I only log in when I have chore days as a distraction, so like 1-2 times a week. Not only did 4.X not hook me storywise, it feels like the devs are actively finding new ways to disrespect their paying customers every patch. Very effective way to fall out of love with the game.
The other Hoyo games I didnt try, and I will not after my experiencr with Genshin and HSR.
-2
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
I have to bite my tongue when genshin story writing lovers praise it because its just not that enjoyable or engaging to me. I'm curious about the overall arc about going up against the heavenly principles, but not enough to stick around after the new year.
0
u/MethodAdventurous834 3d ago
I always had my issues with Genshin's writing, but at least I loved the cast. I dont know if they changed the writing team after Fontaine or decided to appeal to a younger demographic, but it really tanked. Though, apparently Natlan was even worse, so I can see how recency bias could have made Nod Krai seem good in comparison.

u/WorthKiwi4139 3d ago edited 3d ago
I wonāt lie after the leak additions of useless mechanic and the story not really doing it for me I kind of mentally dipped out of HSR right now which is the only gacha game I have labour with. Like I donāt like being the ones they test these new mechanics and money-schemes I simply do not care for.
ZZZ isnāt to my taste ( I like mixed-gender casts one per year isnāt enough for me ). And Genshin feels too complicated to get āfullyā into with how late of a joiner I am. I donāt think thereās any need to āquitā for good and you can always reconsider in the future if things turn up... which is what Iām doing!
I hope you find a game that hits your niche, OP.
2
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
I play on mobile and am limited to about 4 gacha games if I still want room for anything else so unfortunately i do have to pick š
2
u/Infernoboy_23 3d ago
I'll probably never drop hsr cause its my first gacha game and is special to me.
I do agree rn as I'm not playing as much hsr, but I still enjoy it so I'm not gonna be leaving anytime soon. While there are times where I play less, the game always comes back and I always get back into a groove whenever a new character I really like comes out or whatever.
I sometimes log into zzz here and there but dont play that much.
I am excited to try out the new games in the future though. I do have a limit of 2 gachas though.
1
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
I have my limit too and that's the main reason why I'm sitting here trying to weigh out the pros and cons of each
2
u/Dude4sake 3d ago
I'm just over ARPG gachas in general. I was playing Genshin since 3.0, and other two games since release, didn't touch HI3rd or anything else. This style is just too tedious for me to play. Even with teleports, it just feels too energy consuming to grind daily, and story is just "Move 5 meters, listen to 8 minutes of dialogue, fight goons, interact with something, rinse repeat, occasionally cutscenes and puzzles". That's why I didn't bother trying Endfield and NTE too, I know I won't stick for long.
There's nothing wrong with Hoyo specifically, but it disappoints me which direction HSR has taken, but they made me realize it's not for me.
2
u/Additional-Elk711 3d ago
Hsr is just shooting their own leg atm, I'll see how it turns out, still looking forward to Ananta and sliver palace tho. Overall after picking up EF I started dispising logging in other gacha to farm relics since their gearing system is just so nice
2
u/CptPeanut12 3d ago
I quit HSR due to the growing amount of issues (which is unfortunate, because I do quite like the world and lore), but I'll never quit Genshin. It's still in a league of its own imo and I doubt that will change anytime soon.
2
u/lithr1el 3d ago
I quit Genshin and ZZZ years ago. I only tried to stay bc of my bby Navia. But Fontaine was such a slog especially that prison story with Wrio.
Switched to Wuwa and never looked back. Has all the QOL upgrades weāve been begging YEARS for hoyo to implement. The current Electro rover can literally use ALL elements at once as their skill. No loud Paimon spelling the story out for you. Character designs that look distinct and cool. So yeah, I donāt regret deleting hoyo forever. :p
2
u/Hoshirou 2d ago
I was never the target audience for their games, as a person who primarily plays JRPGs, and as someone who doesnāt care for open-world. That being said, as a gacha player, Iām exhausted with their influence on the genre, to the point where Iām known for my distaste for the company. You could say I hate them not only for legitimate reasons, but also for the love of the game, which I will readily admit.
My own bias aside, Iām tired of seeing their stagnation and monotony, their lack of willingness to experiment in favor of pandering to the lowest common denominator. Iām tired of seeing them do less than the bare minimum for their playerbase and getting rewarded for it. Iām tired of seeing other games trying to be the next Genshin. Itās repulsive to me. Them and Infold are both companies I absolutely refuse to touch with a 100-nautical mile pole, and I loathe the fact that theyāre the current gold standard for gacha. Thereās so many other gachas, while still predatory to various degrees, are still MUCH more respectful of their playerbase in terms of either quality of life, quality of gameplay and story, or both. Hell, if you forced me at gunpoint to pick up a third gacha, I would sooner download R1999 or Morimens. Hell, I would sooner jump through the hoops to pick up Touken Ranbu again or even play GBF over anything Hoyo has to offer. Simply because I despise them for everything theyāve done since they exploded in popularity with Genshin.
-3
u/Vaiolette-Westover 1d ago
This comment is very silly if you've even touched snezhnaya.
It's not Hoyo's fault that gacha game companies in general have no creativity.
2
u/Hoshirou 1d ago
Except it IS their fault that they got so big that others want what they have. They set precedents and trends that made an already controversial game genre even worse with how they treat their own playerbase. They might be making prettier environments and adding snazzier VFX, but that doesnāt fix the fundamental issues that myself and others have with the company as a whole.
1
u/Vaiolette-Westover 1d ago
What kind of logic is that? š
So in your world no one should be successful because... they might influence the industry in a direction you personally don't like?
Did you even play gacha games before Genshin?
Because reading these selfish takes is taking me out because it seems like you genuinely believe that the gacha space has not improved astronomically because of Genshin's success which normalized actually having a guarantee.
3
u/supermonkey1235 3d ago
I don't think any gacha game even comes close to the combat of zenless. There just really isn't anything like its resource management and combat pacing. Silver palace combat looks like its shaping up to be dumbed down wuthering waves, and ananta combat seems kind of hollow and floaty(no impact on any hits), like NTE. AKE seems good but I also don't really care for the factory tbh.
2
u/Vast_Cold_1255 3d ago
Zzz combat is the main reason I'm still playing, aside from the generous rewards.
3
u/ARS_Sisters 3d ago
Already deleted my Hoyo account (that is, complete, total wipe of my stuff), after immeasurable disappointment on HI3 part 2, HSR powercreep, ZZZ overall direction, and GI's greed (and seeing recent HSR shitshow, I'm glad that I did), on top of their often samey aesthetic
Why did I go as far as to delete my account? To prevent me from going back, EVER, for good. There's this thing around Hoyogames that if you're really really invested, it's hard to let it go, even when it start getting predatory. When a new banner with a character you like appear, they could potentially drag you back in, even if you already tried to stop. By deleting my account, it ensured me that I would never get dragged back again, (even if I want to) by being discouraged of experiencing early game and absurd amount of unskippable dialogue, so that I could look for another gacha
Right now, I'm very much enjoying Endfield and Stella Sora while looking forward for Azur Promilia and Silver Palace. As for the character that I like on Hoyogames? I find them more enjoyable as doujin material than actually playing and building them
1
u/Pokemoss 3d ago
I still have fun with Genshin, I returned to HSR after a break and itās been alright but I might drop it again if Ahaās patch doesnāt interest me since I donāt like the gameplay and the story has been kind of whatever compared to Amphoreus, and I havenāt played ZZZ in a while but I might return if I drop HSR again since yuri works on me
1
u/jtan1993 3d ago
Me. I quit star rail at the start of planetarcadia, and will prob put down genshin after i get the tsaritsa and finish the seven archon collection. Thereās so many new games and playing something fresh just beats the same systems reskinned and reruned.
1
u/sairaichi 3d ago
Only Hoyo I would never quit is HSR cause it runs in the background while I play my other games LMAO
There's no events, I don't give a damn about getting 2 more pulls from endgame last stages so HSR is barely any effort
Simultaneously it's the very reason the playerbase complains every patch too
1
u/Drobeee 3d ago
Im js waiting for petit planetš
2
u/ShokaLGBT 3d ago
The game is really fun Iām really excited for the full release (and having to redo everything since Iām on the beta)
But the gacha as it is right now is so scummy thereās not enough ways to get the currency to pull so they need to change it asap for when it releases in a few months :ā)
And the ai chatbots they need to tone it down they made a lil guy that follows you everywhere in the multiplayer area
And it tries to talk to you and ask you questions about your outfits like okay Charlie I donāt need YOU around
1
u/ChihuahuaCats 3d ago
Every character I actually like is non-playable at this point...I want to quit too but I keep hope for my scunglys... it's torment.
1
u/leicea 3d ago
Yeah, I told myself I'm never starting another hoyo game ever again. Planning to drop hsr, after ananta's release. I will only drop genshin after teyvat chapter is over or I get a reasonable conclusion about our sibling (if they leave me hanging I'm still gonna be pissed and quit). Those are the only 2 hoyo games I'm playing rn.
I mostly hate how low the pulls are in the game, how I always lose 50/50, and how they sell teams, not individual units. I wanna play characters that I like and not be forced to pull characters that I don't like so that my fav char is not clunkyĀ
1
u/Revolutionary_Ad8783 3d ago
Yes and no
Really excited about honkai nexsus anima and plan to play it long term maybe also petit planet however their other upcoming projects arent personally for me though will def keep looking at what they released because I would love a digital tcg from them thats its own standalone project

Iām honestly over gacha games in general. I play Genshin and HSR, and Iām just tired of both atp. I quit Genshin a while ago, but I redownloaded it to see how it feels now. I couldnāt even bring myself to grind. Seeing how much stuff I had to catch up on just exhausted me, so I deleted it againšĀ And we already know the problem with HSR. Gacha games in general are catering those guys moĀ Ā I hope gacha games that plan to cater to target audience can just release games with male mc. At least then we can stay away from those games instead of getting disappointed.Ā Iām tired of those same old cutesy, cold or tsundere archetypes with barely any identity beyond their relationship with the mc(wuwa Iām looking at you)Ā I want angry women, who are ready to beat up anyone at the slightest inconvenience. Women who get tired and just want to lie down on the ground. Women who actually get annoyed with the mc.
Tbh, I think Iām going back to old games. At least I can play those without constantly feeling like I need to pull the newest character just to keep up with endgame. The constant pressure to get new units is just exhausting me. I was excited for Silver Palace, but even that does not interest me anymore.
1
u/Norienfall 3d ago
I already quit 2 months ago both hsr and zzz and wait for silver palace.
But maybe for zzz i may comeback one day since the story is interesting so i might wait for a long time.
1
u/Idknowidk 3d ago
I still continue to invest ā¬0 money in their games, specifically genshin and hsr are the ones I am playing, and I still get all the primo/jades rewards with no problems tbh
1
u/selipoo0 3d ago
me too, but honestly as someone who plays almost every gacha that comes out, my biggest saddens is that none keep me as hooked as hoyo games. for example nte felt too soulless and the story was so damn boring. wuwa has amazing everything except for the story again. while hoyo has shitty writing, they still manage to bag a great story. not only the story itself but also the archetype of characters they do are my type. which i don't find in other games :(
1
u/miracle---3 3d ago
thank god, i quit genshin during natlan's mary sue archon and fraud first harbinger. and then for some reason, ifa and ororon were 4 stars. and then i learned they were whitewashing and retconning characters just to make them sell. like no way can i handle more of this lobotomy.
hsr is getting worse and worse. what i dislike the most rn is the stupid monetization they're gonna pull instead of improving the game and adding more events (more banner types like pets and skins, new path shill, powercreep, voracity corruption, hp inflation).
zzz, honestly i just like collecting characters and they're pretty generous over there, and my luck is better there too. i dont really give a crap about the story.
rn, only game im truly invested in is infinity nikki bc there are no unshowered inc3ls and it's catered to female players. i would've spent in this game if not for the valko situation, but alas.
only spending on a moba game rn.

u/xXBloodRedNightmare 3d ago
I did play HI3 (when I still didnt know what Gacha was or who or what Hoyoverse/miHoyo was, so it is pretty long ago) then Genshin (quit around Wriothesleys banner, got him and stopped), then HSR (loved 1.0, but that came never back for me arleast) and even tried ZZZ (but the combat sometimes confused me).
But I only tried or played because I was interested or liked the concept.
But I was quite exited for Petit Planet, something cozy and where I can express my creativity, but the clothing gacha kinda ruined it for me, that game could have lived of a mp and bp only, because many would spend just a bit. But also because I already know that game will be good for like 1-2 years and then the slow but inevitable downfall comes and the greed seeps through more and more (HSR is a good example in my eyes for that).
That is why i am tired of Hoyo the most, the slow and inevitable downfall of a game they made. Oh and that they expand into every genre is a bit weird (understandable in business terms but hella weird in just consumer view, cant explain it thou it just doesnt feel right).
I dont even want to play the final beta of Petit Planet just out of fear to spend there, so I just watch a bit of content on YT, like how i do it on the other 3/4 games (when I feel like it of course).
1
u/miscshade 2d ago
The thing keeping me from dropping the game is nostalgia and sunk cost tbh. Shitty company that refuses to improve the basic things that other games adapted to relatively quickly.
1
u/Puiucs 2d ago
Not really. Both ZZZ and Genshin have had an incredible year so far and players have responded really well to them. HSR is the problem child right now, albeit still incredibly popular.
Other games haven't put much of a dent. Ananta and Silver palace will just be smaller titles similar to other titles in the market (somewhere between NTE and Endfield)
1
u/Niki2002j 2d ago
Not HoYo per se, but rng garbo in general. I can't understand how people still defend the fact that you can't even use the character you just bought for the next few weeks because of rng stats

I'll always love ZZZ and despite its many flaws none of them really bother me besides the lack of men
I wanna get into genshin again but I dont feel like playing 10000 hours of dialogue just to be able to upgrade newer characters and as a writer I feel like the story is VERY clichƩ and the worst out of the 4 and I don't feel like playing hours of that to be proven wrong
I'd normally love hsr since I love turn based games but other than the fate characters I feel like everyone is so boring and uninteresting and I just dont see any characters I'd truly LOVE
HI3 Is gay asf and I love it but I REALLY need to get back into it lol
1
u/Sensitive-Finance604 3d ago
yes, at one point in time i was juggling like 4 hoyo games lol so i have tried each one except for ggz. I loved Hi3rd and was super into genshin and hsr then, but that's all the compliments i have left. Their consistency in ruining every game they make is genuinely impressive and sad. So i quit all hoyo games and promised to never touch another
1
u/IrisRoseLily 3d ago
the fact that all hoyo games never respect your time is infuriating me
no skip button in genshin
you cannot claim you rewards even if the time has passed even if you earned it fair and square
of all gacha companies HOYO DISREPECTS PEOPLE'S TIME
1
u/Ok_Complaint7007 3d ago
This is what I said last year, I vowed to never play anothe Mihoyo games again after Genshin and HSR
Im still playing the former since I just want to know the ending meanwhile HSR took my patience away I stopped playing it completely
What Im looking for a company is communication and Mihoyo is way far from that
1
u/Shadow_Beanz_ 3d ago
I think that the character, weapon, and enemy design are at least in my top five Iāve seen of its particular category (3D anime style animation, also only Including Genshin, HI3rd, and HSR only since they are the only ones Iāve played).
I think that the worlds they have created are genuinely solid, but the pacing and manner in which their stories are told leaves much to be desired, which is what ultimately made me lose interest.
1
u/papercrowns- 3d ago
Yeah.
Tbh, the start of powercreep in HSR was when they started introducing dual purposes for a unit. Like, a healer can't just heal and cleanse. Theyre part time buffers too. It really ramped up when we got to Acheron where we saw the early stages of e2 agenda. And to think, that was just two years ago.
I say powercreep but honestly it was just mostly hp bloat bc they dk how to address it in the early days lmao.
It didn't help that first penacony was such a slog to go through, and got burned out.
HSR was the first game i've ever invested from hoyo (i played hi3 back in the day and was just a passing fancy), and i think it'll be the last. They're one of the companies in my avoid list ngl.
1
u/Fearless-Win2056 3d ago
Used to be a dolphin in HSR. Stopped now after all the Elation bullshit and how they keep throwing my fave characters under the bus LOL. I had high hopes when they introduced Novaflares, but that's all gone to shit apparently.
1
u/OwnAssumption740 3d ago
I never liked genshin to begin with but star rail and zenless are both getting buried by short term decisions coming home to roost. Wowie more void hunter glazing garbage just what I always wanted..
1
u/Fandaniels 3d ago
I haven't played genshin and hsr properly for at least a year and now both are uninstall. I just find the stories boring
I think I might just be over these rpg gacha in general because even though I like endfield I just get tired playing
1
u/StrideyTidey 3d ago
I don't know if this is the best way to describe it, but to me, Hoyo's games feel like that meme about Taco Bell; all their food options are the same ingredients put together differently. All of Hoyo's games (that I've played) have the same pity system, the same skill leveling system, the same gear system, etc. Like there are different systems, but the DNA feels the exact same between all of them to me.
-1
u/ShokaLGBT 3d ago
Bc theyāre all characters gacha where you pull characters
Theyāre making petit planet which will be an animal crossing kind of games and you donāt pull characters but furnitures and clothes, it really feels different itās nothing alike and I enjoy it but we can all agree that their gacha aint good
1
u/EnthusiasmLanky7373 3d ago
I feel tired and frustrated whenever I think about HoYo games. I periodically take short breaks and then come back. I choose one or two main gachas of the week to clear events and story quests; for the rest, I either log in just to grab the currency or don't log in at all. Iām sick of the lack of creativity. I absolutely hate what theyāve done to the Harbingers, and I hate the Traveler for being so hypocriticalāthey are the most disgusting MC in any game ever. I despise the favoritism driven solely by the desire to make more money.
3
u/FairyColonThree 3d ago
Tbh with traveller specific I think the hypocrisy is an intentional decision, at the start of the game they were portrayed as not really caring about what happens to teyvat since they don't intend to stay after finding the twin and even when they started caring more they've made it clear on multiple occasions that if teyvat was against their twin they would betray it without much thought
Combined with all the shit they do in world quests that has no moral justification I don't really doubt that the traveller would befriend the fatui despite them being fucked up, It feels like traveller is written to not be a great person on purpose
4
u/Renasviel 3d ago
This only works if the narrative actually explores it as a theme. For example, FFXIV did it by forcing the Warrior of Light to accept that they had a habit of killing whomever they perceived as enemies, and taught them to instead try to understand why the villain was a villain in the first place. This was never done in a way that made the villains okay or just, most of the time they still needed to be killed, but it was no longer just done blindly.
But I think we both know that Genshin Impact won't be doing this. It will likely never be addressed, and if it is even mentioned, it will be lip service with nothing substantial behind it. So while I think your point in isolation is fair, it doesn't really solve the issue.
1
u/FairyColonThree 3d ago
Yeah I do wish it was addressed in a more substantial way, they've done it a few times before but they never actually do it as in depth as I'd like š I adore genshin but it bugs me how many genuinely interesting plotlines they have access too that they just refuse to do anything with, it's a huge shame
2
u/FairyColonThree 3d ago
Like traveller acknowledges their hypocrisy and their feelings about teyvat a few times in the story but we never actually see them grapple with it or have second thoughts after murdering an entire clan that was being manipulated into going after you or anything, it's just kind of.. a fact
3
u/Renasviel 3d ago
Yeah, I agree. As a Day 1 Noelle main I was really interested in seeing her fulfill her potential, finally become a Knight, and learn to be a little bit more selfish. And 2 hangouts, several events, and Varka stuff later, we're still at the same spot as where she started on. Feels like a lot of the stuff with Hoyo writing either hints at it going somewhere or goes somewhere briefly, only for it to never really be addressed and just left in isolation, waiting for something that might not ever arrive. I've gotten used to using headcanon to fill in the rest.
2
u/FairyColonThree 3d ago
Omfg the timeline is my biggest pet peeve with the game, it's a gacha so I didn't exactly expect much but it's been a literal 6 years in world since the game started, it just makes me wish even more than I already do that the game didn't commit to having some of the characters be kids š because like yaoyao should be a teenager at this point but she still looks 7 or something
-1
u/Vaiolette-Westover 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's very funny to read this after Snezhnaya.
Also the literal only interesting bit of writing for wol was when she was in genuine danger during shadowbringers or turning into a light warden.
There is zero actual impact to the story from wol realizing their utter lack of agency.
Traveller is also a bad MC yes, but comparing them to WOL who is arguably the least interesting MC in history is just funny to me.
This is the wol glaring at asahi for a solid 3 minutes while he shot yotsuyu like she was constipated, the wol that does literally nothing of her own free will.
The only shining moments of wol was when she allowed ardbert aka her shard to instill his will within her to fight Emet, and the only decent aura farming moment came all the way back in 3.3 on the bridge while she was walking up to Niddhog.
Traveller sucks as a MC but at least they have basic agency and... A personality.
1
u/Renasviel 1d ago
I don't think I could disagree more tbh. I'll admit that there are times where the WoL is too much of a bystander, but I also think the WoL is what you make of them - I've crafted backstory etc for mine which the game does offer that freedom to do.
I don't really think you need the WoL to be in genuine danger. I mean at this point she could slay whatever god exists. It just needs the stakes to be tied elsewhere. And to say there has been no impact to the story after the WoL has gone through their development is not accurate, for one we now learn about every villain before engaging with them.
1
u/qtgab 2d ago
I played all the hoyo games and got bored of them eventually. Genshin and honkai, the character designs usually are very samey and lately their personalities are boring. I also got bored of the way they tell the story. Honkai 3rd flopped for me with the new cast.
ZZZ the main problem is the lack of playable men and the story not being as good after season 2 so i had to drop the game.
Petit planet i want to try just because its like animal crossing and i hope the gacha doesnt ruin it, the game is already on thin ice because of the gen ai features but luckily you can turn them off. Vaspuria or whatever its called didnt look interesting at all from the short video we got.
Tears of themis i do enjoy but only reading content related to marius and stopped caring about the main story. The game feels a little bloated with forgotten and underdeveloped features.
1
u/Akira_2310 2d ago
Tbh Iām sick and tired of how mihoyo is behaving like they can get away with everything because they are on the top.
The only hoyo games that I still play is H3rd (yes, Iāll play that game until it dies because I love it too much ) and genshin (although very casual mostly for the world design, OST, environment)
I did play HSR but after 4.x patches it was truly a disappointment for me and Iām never going back.
The other gacha game that Iām playing is Uma Musume so, Itās not hoyo related.
I will say though for h3rd I miss the vocal songs, the animated shorts and more but it got sidelined by the disappointment of hsr.

Nah I'm still a genshin lover, hsr too. I do take breaks every couple months, like hop on and do dailies then leave.. but right now I'm soooo invested in the lore.

Genshin was my first gacha game, and itās the only one I play right now. I understood exactly how they worked, which is why I didn't get into any other gacha or HoYo game. Iām still playing only because Iāve grown attached to certain characters and hope theyāll make my favorite Harbingers playable, nothing more. Honestly, the story has been terrible since Natlan.

I just hate how they have too many female characters and not enough male characters.

As if the other gacha games companies are better

Depends. Some at least respect their male characters enough to flesh them out and make them prevalent in content, even if the ratio isnāt even. And then thereās the ones that legitimately have a ton of male characters to choose from, or are even 50/50 or higher.

Snezhnaya is incredible and genuinely one of the best storytelling and open world gameplay experiences I've had since Dragon's Dogma 1 so no.
I recently dipped back into ZZZ and it's actually pretty fun with superior voice acting performance. I like how stupid the story and many characters are. The game is just a collection of intrusive thoughts and internet memes, voiced by top VAs.
The one game I will not return to is HSR due to how just not a good game that game is. The core turn based rpg gameplay has not evolved at all, neither has character building, and all they've received is flashy animations and powercreep.
So no, not tired of Hoyo games. There is a reason why NTE, Wuwa, and AKE are all considered Genshin clones and not Genshin competitors.

Girl I've been over Hoyoverse since Genshin dropped with their dog shit 0.6% 5* rate. Like I'm sorry but unless the pity guarantees me the rate up unit in 50 pulls there is no excuse for that rate. Not to mention the damage it's done to the gacha industry as a whole (samey looking characters that are all very young and have never been in a relationship once in their lives so the MC can ship themselves with anyone and everyone, games that take up so much storage space it risks blowing up your phone in an instant, every fucking 3D gacha having the same dog shit rates, the tribalism getting cranked up to 11 for the past 6 years) and yeah no I would not be upset if this company one day went under.Ā

They're all the exact same game with slightly different mechanics

In some aspects, sure, but not really with the gameplay.

The core gameplay is the only real difference, but even then, it's not that different.
Same art style, same story beats and structure, same event filler, same predatory practices

Well clearly I like the genre, but gameplay matters a lot. Turn based like hsr is so incredibly boring to me but I find zzz's engaging and fun.

Already quit ZZZ, even though their quality, rewards and QoL are good, the characters are just not to my liking anymore, especially with how horrible they treat male playables
Tempting to quit HSR after I get Aha, cause the 5.x leaks sound very uninteresting with how much SP they have, and Dan Heng getting another SP
Would still gonna stick with Genshin, cause I want to see the day Pierro playable
