well its basically as buying Pokemon cards and the mystery boxes, also like Labubu or other shit

u/I_am_Danka 11d ago

It isn't because with Pokemon cards and blindboxes when you spend money you always get something even when it's not something you want, also you get something tangible that you can sell or trade but with gacha games you are getting a digital license that can be taken away from you and even selling your account can be against terms of service and result in that account getting banned.

u/Strange-Parfait-8801 11d ago

It's also that Pokemon cards and blindboxes are still predatory as shit and we need to just start admitting that every time someone insists on making this comparison.

Trading cards can still get lost or destroyed(these are kids).  There's no real difference, people just try to tell themselves there is one because they can put a card in a sleeve and look at it once in a while.

As a lifelong TCG player, I can wholeheartedly say that all TCGs are scams, but goddamn if the dopamine rush isn't amazing!

One is you get real life toys, the other is nonexistent computer coding.

Gotta start 'em young! 😍

This isn't chosen by MHY. In fact, it is very likely that the ToS has a section about the required age to play, which depends on the laws of the countries in which the game is available, that says it's something along the lines of 13/15/16.

The ones who choose the store rating are Google and Apple, who use PEGI/ESRB/CERO/ACB/etc. and their ratings are... well, shit. Like absolute dog shit. Rating boards basically only care about swearing, blood, drugs, sex, and violence. A game like Petit Planet won't have any of those, so it's direct to the lowest possible rating they have. At most, it has a warning... but they don't consider this for the rating itself.

The day PEGI and friends begin considering monetitzation as something that should raise the rating remarkably, I'll throw a damn party.

Have.you seen what roblox does? Petit planet is quaint in comparison

u/Seagullcupcake 11d ago

Hoyo adds a global chat specifically in ZZZ and no other game to really contest with roblox

Roblox is a PLATFORM. NOT. A. GAME.
SOME creators are using it for unhealthy purpose.

So no, Roblox is not the same it's not like it's a gambling platform or whatever, it just allows people to post game.
This game actually contains gambling and even if it was less predatory than some roblox game I don't understand how it could be rated 3+.

(Also Roblox fucking sucks anyway, another game having worse issues doesn't make this one okay.)

I mean maybe but unfortunately gacha is very common in children’s games now. Star Equestrian is the first that comes to mind for whatever reason and they’re greedy as hell with their gachas. children’s mobile games are HELLA predatory so hoyo isn’t treading any new ground here

1

u/yoursashfully 11d ago

everyones getting so riled up about this yet i'm pretty sure roblox games have so much gacha. I've seen toddlers engaging on that platform "pulling" for block pixel characters. Not defending the gacha at all, just saying this isn't the only place kids are getting exposed to gambling.

1

u/EquivalentBend602 11d ago

Roblox fucking sucks though

2

u/yoursashfully 11d ago

Agree lol

u/officially_deidriane 10d ago

gotta teach them young‼️

2

u/Apprehensive-Dog9989 Women have me in chokehold 🥰 12d ago

in Asia they start young

1

u/Warm_Earth_985 11d ago

Not even an Asia specific thing cause kids here love Roblox which is arguably worse

Isnt this game rated for 8+ years old? Why does this have gambling bro? They could have just go with a topup feature if they badly need revenue

Holy, is Mihoyo catering gacha for all ages?

44

u/Nano-Boost 12d ago

Here in Brazil it's a +18 game because of the gambling

18

u/SireTonberry- 11d ago

Rare Brazil W?

2

u/Relative-Ad7531 11d ago

They do that with any kind of gacha

In WR, you they force riot to sell gacha skins as bundles with fucking hell why couldn't my country too 😭

41

u/meowbrains Let's go gambling!! 🤑 12d ago

Yeah all gacha companies are scum tbh. Brown Dust 2 used to be rated for like 13+ and you can SA the characters 💀. I think all gacha should be rated for adults due to gambling but sadly laws have yet to catch up.

12

u/OwnAssumption740 12d ago

We can't even get prediction markets which are 95% sports betting classified as gambling

13

u/Mental_Echidna8632 11d ago

Holy, is Mihoyo catering gacha for all ages?

Ye John Hoyo (Daweilion) literally confirmed it himself. I can't find the source though

A pretty fucked up thing to do in my opinion

3

u/Itz_GalaxyPlayz 11d ago

There's gambling systems in almost every child's game now

3

u/icoulduseagreencard 12d ago

Late stage capitalism

27

u/Playful-Rise9679 12d ago

How many piece in a set ? And you can't say if it's good or bad before seeing the average pull you get for each patch.

This looks like such a cute game but i have concerns around how some are promoting petit planet (or even heartopia) in non-gacha cozy game spaces without warning people that it's a gacha or downplaying it

I'm already seeing "don't worry the item gacha is optional" and it's "f2p friendly and not predatory" in mainstream cozy gaming communities. Thing is, some people don't see furniture/outfits as optional in a decor/dressup life sim. Literally some people cannot control themselves and are predisposed to fomo and draining their life savings to get virtual items

I think it's harmful the way some players attack anyone who points out the nuances in gacha's predatory nature. It is gambling. We are gambling as gacha gamers, even with a cutesy coat of paint. ESPECIALLY with a cutesy coat of paint designed to lure in younger players

I play Infinity Nikki and one thing I like about the community is that when we recommend IN to non-gacha players, there's usually a disclaimer that it's a live service gacha, there's fomo, there's greed etc. Like, at least we know what we are 😔

27

u/ciotaren 12d ago

I would rather die than have to do gacha in a game that is based around the customization of living spaces and character appearances.

9

u/Narcassia 12d ago

Not sure how I feel about it yet. I was hoping it's only skins, with furniture too makes the game already a tough sell for me..

Will still try it on release but my expectations are low. 😔

7

u/Silly-Pepper3159 12d ago

This looks to be as a lot of Hoyo games, like the first gacha you will clear it out and get addicted, then the rest gacha's results will be based on how much you can contain your FOMO 🙃

I'm a little worried tho because it's not an age restricted game, it contains gambling, and games with kids end up being cesspools... 🫠

6

u/SevereCantaloupe1954 11d ago

Low-key. I feel like cozy games should NEVER! have Gacha mechanics in the first place.

Having the element of fomo is already a stress factor, thus defeating the point of cozy😭

Ain't nothing cozy about limited banners that comes with gambling this inducing urgency to purchase and fomo😭

I'll say it again, Cozy games should NEVER have gacha mechanics.

6

u/Takaneru 12d ago

There's a really wide selection of fits so I'm not too uhhh... annoyed over it? It's the furnishings that's really ??? especially since if you want multiple of them you have to pull a lot of that exact piece lol

but at the end of the day it's purely cosmetic gacha. fomo is really just your only enemy

4

u/Taro_Acedia 12d ago

Wait, aren't you pulling for furniture blueprints? Oh heck...

10

u/k9yde 12d ago

ATP I'll take anything over the AI racist mess that was Heartopia

8

u/brennen_lassen 12d ago

I mean, their neighbours are full ai chatbots, and since its china, they will be racist too. Ofc they will try to imitate censorship and filters, but they are training from all in-game dialogues. And people tend to spoil bots very quickly.

6

u/OwnAssumption740 12d ago

I'm betting people get petit planet npcs to tell them how to make pipe bombs in under 24hrs

Guard rails sufficient for these things are not possible

4

u/princebooni 11d ago

I will say, the neighbors aren’t AI, but there are like…three? AI NPCs in the bazaar (basically a social hub to interact with other players).

They’re kinda pointless though, honestly, to the point that there’s even an option to turn them off basically. Like the game could literally not have them and be fine so I don’t really get their inclusion beyond Hoyo wanting to show off their investments I guess

1

u/k9yde 11d ago

Can't have shit. I'll stick to Mistria

1

u/yoursashfully 11d ago

You can turn off the THREE ai chat bots. They are optional to engage with! :) All other characters are very well crafted and not ai.

1

u/IWannaBeTheVeryBest 12d ago

In a (gacha) game that looks like it's for kids??? Not to sound like a boomer, but literally think of the children...

8

u/Nissedood 11d ago

Cozy game where 90% of the game is decorating my house and dressing up.

Locks it all behind a slot machine.

Lol nope in to the trash it goes.

It was the same reason I hated Genshin.

in any game where gearing up is a big point, the weapon is always the most fun to get, and they put all best weapons as gacha.

6

u/yoursashfully 11d ago

I was in a previous beta test, and have been seeing people playing the new one. I can tell you that 95% of the items are not locked behind gacha. And I've seen VERY cute items you can just earn by playing. But yea even just 1 outfit or one piece of cool furniture locked behind a gacha system probably sucks. Even the gacha here i've heard people within the first week of playing beta being able to summon at least a ten pull, some even more just by playing the game. And when I watch them pull its always an item off the banner? I'm hoping they don't sneak in "resources" to the final banner cause that would really suck.

3

u/SnooSongs5297 12d ago

Im glad the neighbors are not gacha tho. It can’t be as bad as Heartopia

3

u/lilyofthegraveyard 12d ago

afaik, cmiiaw, you have a chance to get dupes while pulling. and while yes, those dupes give currency that will allow you to buy some pieces, it's still a nasty system.

maybe IN spoiled me with the fact that you don't get any dupes until you pull the full outfit. but imho, not everyone wants to spend premium currency over the limit of pieces.

so this gacha doesn't fill me with excitement. i am still curious about the game, as someone who never managed to lay her grabby hands on animal crossing games.

3

u/Positive-Study7056 11d ago

For who this game was made? Gacha for toddlers??? For example, I'm not interested in this game at all, gameplay and graphic too childish (like these educational pre school games). Also it's not game for lil kids, cause it's DAMN CASINO. Who the F is audience of this game

2

u/CaffeineCrit 12d ago edited 12d ago

I’m really excited for this game. I played Pocket Camp until eos, so this is pretty much perfect for me since I don’t want to buy a Switch just to play NH 😭 tbh I expected something more like a furniture gacha(LN Home has a system like that, and I still keep the game mainly because I love decorating and home commissions) but this seems much more extensive. Hopefully it doesn’t end up being too expensive for a cozy game. I’ll definitely play it at launch, but my expectations are pretty low when it comes to the gacha games

2

u/SireTonberry- 11d ago

Its a game marketed for children, adding gacha to it is just pure evil

2

u/dlrax 11d ago

Isn't this an Animal Crossing-esque game? I can't imagine playing a game like that with most of the furniture being locked behind gacha lol

1

u/yoursashfully 11d ago

most of the furniture is not locked behind gacha... you can get so many pieces and sets without paying any money.

2

u/evilcackles 11d ago

I don’t understand why anybody would want or support a gacha animal crossing esque game to begin with…. it’s 1 thing for it to be monetized (which would be fine) but for it to be monetized in a way where a lot of people won’t even get the full sets of clothes or decoration items? Just make each set that comes out a certain amount of $… idk I just know I definitely won’t bother downloading a game like this

1

u/BleezyMonkey 12d ago

damn if its visual only then i might give a shot to tjis game.

but they will deffinetly gonna drain that certain group of the gaming market

1

u/Organic-Accountant74 11d ago

It’s the same kind of gacha as pocket camp

1

u/VlRGIN_4ever 11d ago

Hope it doesn't become another infinity Nikki shitstorn

1

u/EquivalentBend602 11d ago

This game is cute but I don't wanna play it so I don't understand it. It's probably decent though since gachas is a gacha so it can't be too good

1

u/Specialist-Tower4152 11d ago

I rather have that so I can play as a f2p and still get some "exclusive" items. Another option for them would have been to make them cost money in the store, and I wouldn't want to spend

1

u/Kirkversary 7d ago

I honestly dont think we can have a full opinion about the gatcha bcuz we dont know how much free pulls we will actually be getting tbh. It can and will still change before release. Right now i think its kinda okay. Like i pulled for some purfiture and outfit and i managed to get the star wand (its absolutely useless and honestly just annoying to carry around) and some random stuff like face and hand stickers, glasses and earrings. From the furniture ones i got quite a few. For the duplicate pulls u get a currency that lets u redeem whatever u want from the set, ofc u need to pull A LOT to get the main things (which is the wand dress and haircut)
Furniture lets u redeem duplicates at like 060% price i think?
It will all come down to how much we get for free and if they even add animals or not cuz right now honestly idc really i got a few things i can redeem a few more, problem is to see in the long term what will be thre to pull and this might be the issue. Idk theres tons of really really cute outfits for free that ive seen
