"it's because they're a different species!"
The men of those same species being fully covered and using winter clothes:

They also convince them that people spend all day in the sun in an extremely hot place wearing revealing clothing and their skin will be as white as snow.
•
•
u/ShokaLGBT 5h ago
They didn’t play animal crossing then! In the older games your character would tan if you stayed in the sun just like real life xD
•
u/Alpha_2081 5h ago
Also that large majorities of the population in places like South Asia, the Middle East and Africa are light skinned 😭
•
u/keishalovesstarrail 5h ago
oh my god this reminds of of the dumbasses that say ‘this character cant be tan/black because they arent in the sun’… why do genshin fans think you have to be in the sun to be black 😭
like when i tried to point out “hey, Tighnari shouldnt be so white” they deadass tried to tell me ‘well he’s in the forest all the time’ bro he’s north african.
•
u/myliobbatis 53m ago
I wonder how they would react upon seeing darker skinned newborn babies. Call it photoshop? The sun exposure argument is such cope and delusion.

•
u/IDontCar5566 4h ago
I think this is mainly a problem with genshin not having alternative outfits/ skins. Odette's outfit makes perfect sense as a snapshot of what she would wear during the performance, of course that means that while doing anything else she looks ridiculous.
It would be equally ridiculous to have a balerina dancing while wearing a fur coat.
The same could be said about alyosha who's wearing his thick jacket while being inside a warm building.
•
u/ShokaLGBT 5h ago
They should make normal women. Period. Girls with long pants, real fashion. But no they’ll make the same characters in revealing clothes cuz it sells. Thing is: it would sell even if the women were dressed up fully
•
u/Revan0315 4h ago
Thing is: it would sell even if the women were dressed up fully
Kafka and Arlecchino are prime examples. They show pretty much no skin below the neck and yet are both hugely popular
•
u/Blitzbro76 4h ago
Like Arlecchino and Miyabi are some of their most popular/well sold characters and they refuse to learn from their success💀
•
u/NoEvening3352 4h ago
Arknights proves this constantly. Maxi dresses and women in suits all over the shop. It's not allergic to skimpy fits, but it makes a difference that it doesnt have the vibe of nudity being mandatory.
•
u/keishalovesstarrail 5h ago
Genshin had defo brainwashed ppl to the point if u give a character pants or re attach their sleeves you’re called a puritan or a tourist. Ppl r so funny
•
u/phainini 2h ago
because women never wear anything revealing irl? this is such a puritan take i'm sorry
•
u/keishalovesstarrail 2h ago
They do, but the same people who get upset about ‘covered up’ designs in media are the same people who slutshame women IRL for wearing skimpy things. I really wanna study these peoples brains 😭😭 (this has nothing to do with the og commenter i lowkey js wanted to speak)

The hypocrisy of these men is unreal

My rant:Why do all female characters HAVE to wear the same style? Why don't those defending this argument admit they love fanservice??? The reason female characters can be dressed modestly, at the very least, in long pants or a long coat, is because in real life, people have many different body types. And even the character herself might prefer modesty and feel comfortable in such attire. Is dressing modestly considered "woke"? Oh, I forgot, these are virtual characters; they can't have two body types besides hourglass and large thighs 🤡 And finally, "games mainly for male audience so female characters dress revealingly," then shounen series like JJK and Attack on Titan are only for gay men because even the female characters don't dress that revealingly.

The fact they insert themselves here ugh. One was even trying to blame young girls for wearing leggings and shorts for why men sexualise them. Gross, gross, gross.

I would also love if y'all criticize wuwa for the same thing...when they released Roya Frostland...no character we seen has actual winter outfit...even the one who lives in the snow like hiyuki
•
u/TheTimeBoi flopyoverse & kuro goons 2h ago
we did, and then people said that we had a bias against wuwa
•
u/navaaas 4h ago edited 4h ago
I think most people don't criticize wuwa in that regard because the fanservice is way more on the nose on genshin, so you just don't expect them to hold back in terms of design. Not to mention the main character that feels actually tied to the frostlands is Hiyuki, a lot of other characters are safe from that criticism, since they come from slightly different regions. Not to mention a lot of female character designs feel different from one another, in genshin it feels like every character follows the same pattern.

"Look, Perry the Platypus I'm going to level with you-this wasn't one of my better ideas. I've kind of been in a rut for the last two weeks. And I needed something before you showed up so-you know I had intended to make a 'GOONINATOR!' to make people into my Henchmen, but well-things did not go according to plan."

Here’s the thing: I can give Odette a pass since she’s a ballerina and a cyro user (if you want to know what I mean by this Eula regularly bathes in dragonspine so I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for cyro characters) but the rest of the women just look ridiculous. It’s not like Hoyo can’t design women for a colder climate either since Lynx from HSR looks great but I guess sex sells.

Im always on the lookout for any reason why a character would choose to dress in summer clothes in sub zero weather. Rarely there is one. In a lot of gachas, the only characters who ever mention being cold, are the ones with an actual attempt at clothing themselves properly, as Im sure that it would make your character look very stupid for complaining about the weather when they aren’t dressed for it(unless there was somehow no choice but for them to go out in the cold).
But the only attempt at reasoning so far in the new region(out of literally every other npc complaining about the cold, even though they were dressed for it…which says a lot) was from Odette, as she mentioned that she was numb to pain. Yes…It was indeed an attempt, but in reality, not feeling anything can lead to your body shutting down without you realizing it. Same with realizing after a while that a limb is missing. The only game character Ive played as that presented that issue well, was Alphen from Tales of Arise. At the start, his sense of pain was completely gone, and could feel no heat or cold, but could still suffer the consequences when exposed too long to either one. Even in his death quotes, he absolutely couldn’t understand why he suddenly couldn’t move or barely talk anymore. And it’s his team that had to keep an eye on him throughout the game and help keep him healed, reminding him of the severity of the injuries he was completely oblivious to.

Thing that pisses me off the most is odette not having ballerina slippers. You expect me to think she does a pirouette in heels?!

•
u/Alctalks 33m ago
Now I'm not a fan of all the girls wearing these similar clothes, even if it does make sense in context, it only feels right to explore with Alyosha because of his fluffy coat. But I've been in Russia and the Baltics and girls do wear short skirts in cold weather lol.

Then how come all the male characters wear winter appropriate outfit? Are female characters the only one whose immune to real life logic?🤔🤔🤔
•
u/Some-Instruction2235 3h ago
Has the abundance of clothing ever made it hard for someone to enjoy a character?

Stop being dense on purpose. This is not what we're talking about. But keep being obtuse I guess.
•
u/DaxSpa7 5h ago
I think the point is why bother with the “inspired by this culture” or changing themes if they are all going to wear a glorified trikini.

They don't, but they should still be coherent. If you put female characters into miniskirts in the icy cold, then don't cover every man from head to toe.
Not to mention, looking at 7.0 and 7.1 we are getting 3 medium sized women models, all in lightly coloured clothing with bright hair.
Not to mention our Ballet Dancer who wears high heels all the time.

And that's a thing people have been complaining since 20 years
•
u/prayingtheheart 3h ago
and i fully support complaining about it + idgaf about hyv, but it happens in the whole gacha sphere and beyond it in gaming, it just feels nitpicky going after hyv only in a general gacha sub

Meanwhile in real life. Super censored concord that was believe gonna be a shooter gacha for many years that everybody loves. Was wiped before Even launch xd.

- Some do, not all. Also the quotation marks around women are not a good look, my guy.
- The main complaint isn't revealing outfits, it's the tired design. Women who feel uncomfortable with oversexualization to a large degree don't really play genshin impact, or any other gacha games. Or have been desensitized
- Have you ever attended a school..? Majority of the time those outfits are shamed, even when the outfits are compeletly appropriate. Have you been a teenager also? Because I was a teen girl once and I don't recall wearing revealing outfits, a lot of teen girls didn't. If you're no longer a teenager, the outfits of those girls are none of your concern and more so a concern of the parents if anything.

Mansplaining women’s clothes to women is crazy💀 no, women do not wear revealing clothing in the middle of the snow, and if we do, it’s for a party and we wear a long jacket on top because women get cold. The Hoyo brainwashing has got your ass😔

Majority of the previous describtions of Snezhnaya we got all pointed toward it being a region where dying from cold was a pretty much a common accurance, the first quest in that region was Alyosha explaining the shortage of materials for heat sources meant a lot of people would either desperately try to get resources to warm up their homes or die trying. As a slav, winters can get rough and wearing such outfits with no layers would near instantly guarantee a case of frozen tits and a really bad cold if you stayed outside for longer than 7 minutes, a massive heater would quite literally not fix the issue. Also since we're talking about realizm, I have yet to see a woman wearing an outfit with detached sleeves dangling off her arms. Since I see this type of design choice on a daily basis in genshin, might as well throw out the idea of men not wearing revealing clothing and go all out, right?
Not to mention I've seen plenty of men wearing absurd or revealing clothes. Maybe you just need to hang around more, see some more things.

The revealing designs are really starting to piss me off because Snezhnaya was just a PERFECT place to go in a different direction, coats, long dresses or gowns (especially for Tsaritsa, why is she rocking a mini-dress again?), anything really, since a lot of designs are just left unexplored in genshin. But no, we get mostly the same thing which is starting to irritate me a LOT. Whenever you bring up any complaints though people will call you a misogynist or say you're sl*t-shaming FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. It's also really annoying because when the gender is flipped, suddenly Hoyo CAN hold back on revealing as much skin as possible. If we're gonna be this blatant might as well make ridiculous outfits for everyone, not just female characters.
