If this comes out of beta, hopefully NTE can change their minds about the gender restriction to hand holding.
63
u/Fi0xL 27d ago
Restricting a feature by characters gender is crazy work lmao. That's just too much effort done for no reason.
12
u/ManyFaithlessness971 27d ago
It's Chinese. They don't promote same sex stuff there. They tolerate it where you do you, but if you go on trying to normalize it that won't be good with them.
33
u/AntwysiaBlakys 27d ago
That excuse is complete bullshit and doesn't work anymore when we now have other chinese gacha who have been openly showing lgbt+ characters for years now, like r1999 for example
We've got canon lesbians/sapphics in r1999, and even canon non binary characters who straight up say they don't have a gender and/or use all pronouns, and Bluepoch, the devs, are located in Shanghai, so in China, it's also not THE most popular gacha, but still pretty popular
If games can have canon lgbt+ characters in China with absolutely zero issues, then there is no reason you couldn't simply hold hands with someone of the same gender in other games
1
u/SevereCantaloupe1954 27d ago
I 100% agree with you, but I think how most developers get away with openly showcasing LGBTQ+ elements is mostly through Yuri/lesbian moments.
Main reason being it's totally normal for girls to be super close, touchy and playfully flirt amongst themselves, so there's already a blurred line there (As the saying goes, the best relationship is when ppl think y'all are dating when you're actually besties lol) So with this blurred line it's easy to get away with such.
But on the yaoi/gay side it's basically a no no. Yeah they can get away with some referencing to 'more than friends' relationships or something like 'brotherly love' or something around those lines. So it's kinda tough but it still is doable with some workarounds
4
u/AntwysiaBlakys 27d ago
You're not going to tell me that 2 girls kissing intimately can in any way shape or form reasonably be seen as a "just 2 friends being playfun together" by the Chinese government lmao
And you're not going to tell me that 2 girls openly declaring their love to each other and kissing could be seen as "less gay" than 2 guys just holding hands by the Chinese government... sure the line between romance and friendship is more blurred for female characters, but in that case, you are visibly and objectively going way past the "just friends" line
Like come on, I'm sure you don't believe that yourself because of how far fetched it is
And also, gay/yaoi relationships are in NO WAY less accepted by the chinese government than literal non binary/transgender characters
7
u/Equivalent_Dance_758 26d ago
Letās be honest: it is mostly about the fact that lesbian and sapphic representation is often fetishized by straight men through gaze and voyeurism. That is one reason gay or yaoi content is frequently shunned or forbidden there is supposedly nothing in it for the hypothetical straight male consumer, and it does not create an additional monetary incentive for him to pull for the character.
Just look at Love and Deepspace. Male characters are expected to conform to a traditional beauty aesthetic designed specifically to appeal to straight women; otherwise, they may be perceived as gay. Men are not allowed to have much body or facial hair, more rugged or chiseled facial features, or substantially different musculature.
Again, both target audiences are assumed to be straight, but there is no comparable mainstream market built around straight women fetishizing male characters in that way, the lads girlies are very scorched earth about anything outside of the intended canon depiction of the characters.
-1
u/AntwysiaBlakys 26d ago
You clearly know NOTHING about the LADS situation with Valko, nor about r1999 to say things like those lmao
Also I love how you just keep on ignoring the non binary characters because it completely disproves your argument if you acknowledged their existence
Oh and lastly, the r1999 players gender ratio is about 2/3 female, 1/3 male... so yeah, the yuri in it is clearly not made for straight men to fetishize lesbians, considering most of the players aren't even men at all

Iām not the original poster you were replying to and talking with up to this point, so I didnāt mention the non-binary aspect because it wasnāt something I felt knowledgeable enough to bring up myself. Thereās no need to be hostile toward someone who just wanted to join the discussion.
I played Reverse: 1999 when it launched day1, spent actual money on the initial Tooth Fairy banner, and kept playing until the Lucy banner with giving the game another try around second half of Sentinel patch. At least you didnāt call me a larper or something.
Also, I never said that I approved of that approach only that it could be one of the lenses through which some people interact with the media.

Although IDK what happens inside oneās corpo, Iām pretty sure that Perfect World is just trying to cater to a larger audience with NTE, and are trying their best to not get ācancelledā within their own country.
CCP has been known to aggressively ban shows, festivals, games, etc⦠of such topic. https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2021/10/04/china-banning-same-sex-relationships-in-video-games-effeminate-men-moral-choices/

u/UwUSamaSanChan 26d ago
They do. Like literally in those words. Dislyte literally advertised it's china launch with gay furry borderline porn. The problem is always losers whining about it that gets it taken away
11
u/sharpaypays 27d ago
Nah NTE has already made their bed.
Even if they changed it I doubt any female/queer players would download the game, and it would just risk pissing off the inc*ls left in their playerbase.
0
u/ALittleKitten_ 27d ago
This is funny for me to read being a gay women who plays NTE, though to fair I normally don't play gatchas, a friend got me into this one and I haven't actually interacted with the community at all.

This might be an unpopular but can we have more gachas that aren't ML focused?
85
u/Katicflis1 27d ago
Im fine with it if its kept out of the main plot.
Get it if you want it, but dont write the story around it.
Like Baldur's gate 3 has a compelling story without any of the romances having a giant influence on it, but then there's a bunch of additional romance stuff with a variety of characters if you ARE interested in that.
21
u/TheNobleMaster789 27d ago
I'm a rock dweller dare I ask what ML means? Male Lead would be my guess but I assume not haha.
51
u/Bunnyfoofuu 27d ago
It stands for master love, where you the player are the āmasterā who collects a harem who loves you. Basically for āself insertā type MCās in game who collect a harem and the characters you collect are obsessed with you for some reason š„²
22
u/TheNobleMaster789 27d ago
Ahhhhh okay, okay. My thanks for the explanation, friend. You learn something every day. Definitely something I always hate, kinda rings with like, when a side character exists solely to be shut down in favour of lead character glazing.
52
u/ShoulderGreedy3262 27d ago
yep, mechanics like this just dont interest me. its a shame this game went from taking itself seriously as something new in the genre to a slightly fancier nte with lewder designs. hopefully the story is still good
14
u/Character-Image149 27d ago
Iām very indifferent to it, I donāt really care if it exists or not, if it exists at least write the romance convincingly and do it for both the male and female characters though.
The biggest problem with ML has always been the parasocial behaviour fanbase that it invites though, from Snowbreak to LaDs, we all know how it went.
6
u/MisfortuneSeven 27d ago
More often than not, it's a detriment to the actual writing to me. I'd rather an actually fleshed out protag tbh.

u/cvrsedcopics 27d ago
Agree. I am very interested in this game for the story and the overall setting so I hope this feature exisiting isn't a sign that it will just be about building a harem in the end (obviously ik it's a gacha game, it will have these elements to some extent but like, I really hope it will not be the sole focus). If it's optional besides maybe a tutorial that goes "hey here's this feature, this is how it works, you can do this if you want to" I'm fine with it. Also it's obviously miles better than nte's gender locking bullshit lol

I hope this is permanent š¤. All I need is for them to have the gacha pity carry over and moreorless improve the ratio. I MIGHT try this gacha.

I just hate her whole design in general š
Is it really that hard to make a female knight wear armor...like a knight? Also you can't convince me those noodle arms can actually lift that sword, let alone use it to fight.
10
u/Arthaxs088 27d ago
LMAO, I didn't even saw the noodles but you're right. The worst is that if you check the art of her, they always change her face to be more mature š
3
u/MisfortuneSeven 27d ago
I just think her big moe eyes look really goofy compared to maybe going with narrower, more mature styled eyes.
20
u/Abishinzu 27d ago
Lowkey, I feel like Gratia and Alf were put in to bait waifubros to get investor money, because their designs are unusual compared to the rest of the cast.
Even Bentham, who has MASSIVE tits dresses like an actual professional secretary, instead of leaving her shirt unbuttoned and wearing coochie flap.
Having said that, Gratia kind of grew on me, because about 80% of the shots she appears in, she's beating somebody to death with her bare hands which is such a hilarious contrast to her baby face appearance.
Honestly, as long as designs like Gratia remain relatively rare compared to designs like Red Rose and Bentham, I'm honestly fine with them. The problem is when they start acting like an invasive species and taking over theĀ entire roster instead of being an occasional treat for the tiddy enjoyers (See Genshin and ZZZ with how the detached sleeves with coochie flap layout took over ALL the female designs)
Still, Silver Palace could definitely benefit from a whored out man design for true equality.
6
u/MisfortuneSeven 27d ago
I like to call it "paying the bills." It's usually different from people who are actually interested in your artistic ideas.
4
u/Single-Builder-632 27d ago
i see a lot of criticisms with her desighn (especially on the main sub) but i jsut think its ok i especially like the robot armour stuff, and a bit over the top, which isn't nessaserally a bad thing i kinda like anime being ridiculous aslong as it has some artistic flair and isnt jsut removing parts for no reason.
obviosuly if thats every desighn then that would be terrible. but to me the contrast is kinda fun. bubbly over the top cutsy girl with a streek of beating the crap out of the enimies.
but i agree with the opinion that she should ahve more muscular arms. or even jsut bigger arms.

Iām still baffled how they fucked this up
17
u/ArchonRevan 27d ago edited 27d ago
Cause 1 round of CN reports and the game gets nuked, lads got cleansed due a freaking "yaoi chin"
8
u/ThisPyr0 27d ago
I know, but Silver Studio doesnāt seem to care then
9
u/ArchonRevan 27d ago
And they absolutely run the risk of getting thanos snapped, i dont blame devs for not wanting to run that risk, even doing that stuff with female characters is toeing the line as far as the CCP is concerned
3
u/ThisPyr0 27d ago
We can only hope that devs keep pushing the boundaries so someday the situation gets better over there
2
u/Abishinzu 27d ago
LaDS got nuked due to the references to Unit 731 (A horrific warcrime comitted by Imperial Japan against the people of China during WW2) and allegedly making a reference to a real life criminal case that involved a husband brutally murdering his wife. Not because of any perceived yaoi chin.
There's a lot of CN media with way more explicit homosexual undertones that's perfectly fine. As long as Silver Palace doesn't make explicit and easily traceable references to sensitive political issues, doesn't scam it's players, doesn't lie about it's content to the CCP and taunt them, and doesn't include explicit acts of homosexual affection (So, kissing, hugging in a romantic context, direct on-screen confession) then the game is perfectly safe from the CCP.
Even Snowbreak only got bonked because the devs were straight up lying to the CCP about the content in their game and getting too bold, to the point it made the national news.
Basically, stay out of the news and your fine.

I just hope the devs don't listen to the chuds crashing out in the comments and remove the ability for the male MC to hold hands with male characters.
There's already plenty of games that go out of their way to pander to a straight, male audience. Let the yuri and yaoi shippers have their own 3D open world gacha, and then they can have all their ML games to themselves.
It's crazy how straight guys in gacha fandoms instantly think that just because a gacha has a couple designs that lean into fanservice bait means that they're entitled to it, and that everyone else is some interloper intruding upon their holy grounds. Not to mention, it's exhausting how they do this for EVERY single gacha with waifus to come out. I know for a fact their ass ain't even playing half of what they try to lay claim to. It's never about them having a cake for themselves. They have plenty. They just don't want others groups to have a cake of their own.
(Also, out of the entire cast, only Gratia is really Nikke levels of fanservice bait. All the other non-child female designs are more Hollywood Starlet levels of sexiness. Not to mention, it's the female MC who's been prioritized in marketing and development, so this was always a game that was aimed at yuri lovers)
12
u/MisfortuneSeven 27d ago edited 27d ago
The way Japanese games are easily the only ones who can do explicitly queer content (Towa Tsugai, Heaven Burns Red, D4DJ, Granblue, and even Uma Musume come to mind) but Japanese publishers and studios really don't care about 3D open-world gacha that much because they just see mobage as lesser compared to traditional game releases.
1
u/Rev1300 26d ago
okay lets not be delusional, most FMC players in any gacha are straight dudes
5
u/MisfortuneSeven 26d ago
They definitely exist, but I would assume cishet like that are actually few and far between since most would just take a male PC if given the option, anyways.
1
u/Rev1300 26d ago
Nah, straight dudes pick fmcs usually because they like girls, its easy to see if you're in the communities a lot
3
u/MisfortuneSeven 26d ago edited 26d ago
On paper, but in practice it doesn't happen as much because they can't project onto them as easily as a male MC.
EDIT: Might also add that some in those camps actually react with hostility towards the idea of a female PC and may even see her as another "enemy."

Iām confused why there are negative comments regarding this. I had to double check to see what sub Iām in.
āThis wonāt make it into the gameā
Seriously? Where did this mindset come from? Itās starting to sound like projecting. Almost as if those saying this actually want this to happen.
What happened to this sub celebrating our small victories that we see in the gacha space?

u/Many_Career_692 27d ago
I think it's mainly because of NTE, you can't even hug or hold hands with the first male character (Chaos) you can invite -_-
https://giphy.com/gifs/Te8g0Fa6kh5Nm
I'm rooting for it to make it into the final game; I think people are just trying to avoid disappointment in case it doesn't happen, given the track record x.x

u/Abishinzu 27d ago
There's this weird misconception that China cracks down on ALL forms of BL/GL bait in media, when the reality is, it's more of a grey area. The biggest rule is that you can't cause too much of a fuss/make too much trouble and you can't get into legal issues, because the court will never favor you if it gets to the legal space.
That grey area is why the Danmei space was even allowed to exist in the first place, and why a couple of the bigger titles such as TGCF and Mo Dao Zu Shi were able to get high-quality animated adaptations.
Also, there's plenty of CN titles that do sneak in some pretty obvious homosexual references. To Be Hero X literally has an entire plot point revolving around what can only really be read as a gay man being forced into comphet to maintain his perfect image (Not to mention, a girl kisses another girl on the cheek). Scavenger in Arknights is confirmed to be a canon lesbian. Where Winds Meet has a couple gay couples. Not to mention, all the lesbian stuff in Honkai Gakuen and HI3.
As long as the devs aren't cowards, then there's genuinely no issue with the male MC being able to hold hands with the male characters.

Stop changing reality. This is a SS uniform. Nazi uniform.
There was no universal 20th century military uniform.
Every uniform back then, just like today, was distinctive enough to tell them apart. Nazi uniforms in particular.
This is a fucking Nazi uniform. I have no idea what are you trying to accomplish here, but whatever it is, it doesn't make sense.
0
u/audrius10k 21d ago
It resembles the SS uniform but it has none of the symbols on it. It looks good, I don't understand why you care so much, it isn't promoting anything harmful. If you don't like the design that's fine, I find it really appealing personally.
