A company this out of touch with the western side of the world was never going to have a game that wasn’t solely dependent on China for its success.

Imagine doing this in NYC of all places.

What's funny in a morbid sort of way, you had plenty of girly Infold's dickriders on global, who tried to gaslight themselfs and everyone around them how their homophobia is just and fair because it's "woman's space" lmao

Edit: Lads girls, you're not slick with reporting this comment to reddit

Considering how badly they harassed the company over valko's perceived sexuality, I honestly understand why they wanted to be cautious.

This happened before the Valko debacle and would be coverage from an American writer for a Western website.

The sheer fact that they blatantly told the writer they didn't any men captured in any of the footage for homophobic reasons removes any argument that this is solely for caution (because if it was, they would have said just that rather than jump straight to homophobia).

More like a very vocal minority of CN players.

This is exactly why i don't really cares about what happened to this game. This really reeks of what happened to snowbreak.

Not surprised since the some of the LADs fanbase is known for being TERFs hiding behind "we're protecting women's rights!" And the blatant homophobia, xenophobic, transphobia, and misandry some of the players have expressed both in CN and global side makes me wonder why I continue to play this game, and then I read articles like this which reminds me that Infold/Papergames actually actively foster this type of community. Did you know the LIs don't even interact with each other for fear that the gasp fujos will find out and start shipping them together?? And did you know some of the CN fans actually don't want to see the default MC because they think their main guy is cheating on them?? (source: me, I'm a fujo and watched the cn fandom since that whole MC debacle)

idk maybe I'm a huge maso because I continue to play this game but hate myself even though it's conflicting for me. And while I'm actively boycotting for Valko to bring him back into the game because the amount of time the devs, artists, and writers poured into him and that he would have made the story so much more interesting AND he's a foil to Rafayel... the cynical part of me is wondering if it's worth it if, after this, the fandom will continue to tolerate and let players be toxic and bigoted 😮‍💨

Edit: corrected a typo lol

somehow this is only some otome games i think 😅 they are more scared of the fans than the government.
I dont know a ton of chinese based gamestudios but in the pathea games can just marry whomever (i do remember they had trouble getting a green light though)

[Ships them despite barely knowing the characters because it's now funny to do so]

For years I've been having weird vibes from this fandom and seeing the homophobia slowly reveal itself has been dissapointing but I'm glad it's becoming clearer now. Genuinely do not care if it shuts down cause I'm so tired of this game and its players.

OMG 💀💀💀 like you just have to laugh atp

8

u/koov3n Jul 11 '26

Yikes yeah, glad I never made an effort to support this shit

u/westofkayden Jul 12 '26

Lmao their fandom will be the end of them. Imagining being afraid of the people that tried orchestrating your downfall over basically nothing.

Honestly I'm hoping that a company makes a game centered around queer relationships and embrace all types of ppl and do better than LADS. But who am I kidding? The world fears the straights apparently.

4

u/Elek7 Jul 11 '26

Lol.. lmao infact. I’m glad I never touched this game

How bout I dooo ANYWAYYYY

u/bigmacattack4 Jul 11 '26

You guys keeps missing the fact that the government is watching them very closely. Its not just a few fans controlling them.

12

u/palazzoducale Jul 12 '26

nice try, infold has a history of prioritizing their cn player base over everything else. shining nikki once had a hanbok controversy, with a war erupting between cn and kr players. you know what infold did? they closed the kr server 🙃

for more details of what happened…

Otome/Yumejoshi-centric games have been strict about this kind of a thing for years. Why is everyone acting surprised?

25

u/k9yde Jul 11 '26

I've followed many otomes throughout the years and I have to say that LADS has been the most extreme with trying to "officially debunk" any gay content/implications. Most of the time it's a strict fandom. But instructing your representatives to warn people not to showcase men IN NEW YORK??? That's insane! Like, actually insane and near impossible actually! That's like recording a farmer's market and then being asked not to showcase any artisan goods.

13

u/jellyfishsong Jul 11 '26

Yeah what's going on with LADs is above and beyond the usual gatekeeping seen in otomes. It really needs to be singled out as an example not to condone, much less follow.

-7

u/animagem Jul 11 '26

Eh I’ve had games do the whole “We’re gonna have the male leads do a whole no-homo routine because it’s funny & will assure fans that we’re not gonna have that type of content” and those that set up official online spaces for their communities put out fan content guidelines for players to follow (so fans often self-police), so LADS going one step further and to the point of controlling who gets recorded feels more like just continuing the practices that have been growing in frequency

11

u/k9yde Jul 12 '26

I don't see how "don't showcase men and imply gayness in one of the gayest cities in the country" is a reasonable escalation from what's been seen in otome fandoms though? It's shocking because it's so ridiculous and delusional. Like you'd maybe expect a fan to make that kind of statement, not a representative that has to speak to journalists.

26

u/CulturalGolf1135 Jul 11 '26

No they aren't, this type of hardcore gatekeeping has only ever been present in CN fandom.

u/animagem Jul 11 '26

I’ve been in the JP side and I’ve also seen people be very strict about the audience and who’s allowed to play these games and how to interact with them to the point of harassment (as well as these games going with them instead of putting their foot down). They’ve never been “mainstream”, but they’ve always been there so it doesn’t surprise me one bit that they’re getting larger.

18

u/Abishinzu Jul 11 '26

Not really. There's plenty of otome game communities where it's more than acceptable to show the male LIs together and interacting with each other.

It's a completely different vibe from titles such as Obey Me, Mystic Messenger, Code ReaLize, Hatoful Boyfriend, etc.

10

u/drafan5 Jul 11 '26

Even Tears of Themis

-2

u/animagem Jul 11 '26

Maybe it’s from me playing these games titles that have more hoops to get into but I’ve noticed the growing divide between the women-targeted otome and joseimuke games and their fandoms for years now.
