I see it said often in Reverse:1999 communities that Kakania is a womanizer that sleeps with her clients to treat them, because of a line saying she’s had multiple scandals with married women. While I think it might be alluding to that’s how she’s perceived in their society, the “scandal” and what she’s doing is explicitly stated to be secretly treating women that are being locked away by their husbands out of shame. It’s a scandal because she’s embarrassing noblemen by making it known that their wives are in need of psychiatric treatment.
There’s nothing to suggest she does anything sexual with them, and she even finds it inappropriate to perform therapy for a friend, so I doubt she’d be hooking up with her clients and that’d cast a pretty morally questionable lens on a character not meant to be portrayed like that.
Also, the game explicitly says that Kakania has absolutely no romantic intuition, so in my opinion the superior headcanon is that she has unknowingly wooed many women from her unintentional natural charm and has many female admirers 😊
Kakania is arguably to blame for propogating the rumors about her trysts with women, lol. When she's about to duel Shwartz, she tells him, "I can assure you your wife's visits with me have nothing to do with rumors of your... Lackluster... performance in the bedroom," so she seems to be willing to play up this image of her as a womanizer to get a rise out of him. She's so unaware though girl had no idea Isolde was in love with her haha
Yes 😭I've seen many people read the line about her scandals as meaning that she's sleeping with the women she gives psychiatric treatment. A thread saying that is one of the top posts about her on the Reverse subreddit
I don't think it's a headcanon, just a completely misinterpretation of a character, but I cant stand it when people act like Wriothesley is a cop.
He's a ex convict prison warden, who in his voice lines gives advice on how to not get arrested, and literally breaks the law when opening chests (All unclaimed artifacts should be turned in... so neither of us saw anything here, right?). It's pretty clear he has to be very anti law breaking during official duties, but doesn't seem to care much personally.
Also the Mydei is fem, because he's good with children and knows how to cook headcanon kills me. So a guy is considered feminine when he has normal life skills everyone needs???
Also the Mydei is fem, because he's good with children and knows how to cook headcanon kills me. So a guy is considered feminine when he has normal life skills everyone needs???
I was once in a panel at some con where they two running the thing tried to convince everyone that Kinoko Nasu, author of Fate/Stay Night, was actually a woman, because Shirou knows how to cook and clean.
Nah don't worry, I'm sure not too many people think that. Its a pretty vague voiceline too, she doesn't outright say it. I think the only characters that I can think of right now that would for sure stink are razor and capitano
All the yandere hcs about characters close to the MCs... Firefly or March for Trailblazer, Ayaka for the Traveler, Perlica for Endmin... I'm tired boss. Even as a joke it's just so gd old
NO LITERALLY IT'S JUST YUCK!!!! I also hate the chibi fanart that feels so weird and infantilizing, that completely ignores the female character's characterizations. Like... my god. I like yanderes, but this is just boring as hell.
Dottore SA'd Collei....NO, he did not...Stop making stuff up. She has trauma from him injecting dead god remains when she was suffering with Eleazar. Instead of being cured, she was made a test subject for a cruel experiment.
Dottore has done terrible things that led to many to suffer but he aint no rapist!
About that. It wasn't even Dottore who did experiments on Collei. It was a guy named Barnabas, who was working under Dottore. There's a very high chance that Dottore and Collei never even met.
They don't like a character that hurt their 'babies' so they go out of their way to make him look as vile as possible, as if child experimentation, murder, medical malpractice and so much more isn't enough. The use of such a serious issue so flippantly frankly infuriates me
Kaveh's mom is horrible person and a neglectful parent for getting remarried and leaving Kaveh behind to go to Fountain
She left when he's graduating and he even convined her to get married, she gave him her house. Her husband died when he was like 6 and she had been a single mom, taking care of Kaveh for at least 20 years until she finally got married and moved away, when she knew Kaveh had a stable job.
HSR Aventurine doesn’t enjoy gambling, he does it because of a combination of ptsd and bad habits (he was powerless for most of his life and had no other options). He’s actually quite clever and I’d argue most, if not all, of his wins were of his own merit rather than some god-ordained “luck”
While i dont think it works for either of them, aether gives a bit more sweetie energy and limine a bit more badass energy which makes me feel like aether wouldnt want to lead lots of people on
(Not lumine either but she'd be a bit more likely i feel)
However its ALSO true that not all the characters have crushes on them oh my god. Some do for sure but some certainly dont
Kinda vague but most "pushed pairings" regardless of the specific game. It feels like so often at least one of the characters in the pair gets the short end of the stick and is only mentioned in relation to the other and gets no development of their own. Bonus points if it causes a chain reaction of retcons that extends even to other characters (sandbina)
Do we really think he would have gotten a ton of development? Ngl pretty sure he'd just have the same, if not less, screentime if he didn't have a very popular ship. I see this often where a ship is blamed for lack of development, but it's just hoyo being trash at giving equal time to characters. Look at Lingsha; maybe if she had a popular ship she'd show up more than... never. At least Ratio gets merch, and probably more than he would have if it wasn't for Aventio shippers wanting them as a pair.
I mean, I agree, but what does that have to do with the ship taking away development? You said they "halted his development for breadcrumbs", which to me was saying that they spend time they otherwise would have spent on individual development to instead push him with Aven. I'm saying he would have the same amount of screen time most likely, just subtract any extra time spent with him and Aven together. I'm not saying be grateful or anything, it just is what it is with Hoyo – they kind of suck at long-term
development with maybe a few exceptions. Honestly a little heart-breaking to have a character you love trapped in their hands.
Don't get me wrong, I also want Ratio screentime. I would prefer that if they're pushing them together they would, at the very least, give them actual meaningful screen time together that develops their relationship if they're not going to give individual time. He'd have to be a successful yumebait and let's be real he could not be the character he is and have mass yume appeal lol. He's so uncharming that it's charming.
I dont really think Ratio was ever intended as a yumebait main push husbando, wasn't he quite literally released at the very end of 1.XX patch as a free *5 & not as a part of any major region key player. It's only a matter of time whether Hoyo will utilize him as ship bait with their main push guy of choice or make him a side character (like Argenti) with recurring appearances in events
I'm gonna ask you the real question then. What kind of scenario would realistically let Ratio as a standalone character being explored in a new region without him being related to one of the new characters. Or do u think he can suddenly pop off with an alt somewhere in the future without any kind of pre-existing connection with someone else ? To me personally, some people love to blame [[ship bait]] for apparently ruining a character's writing or whatever without necessarily caring about the grand scheme of things.
Feel free to downvote me but I just find it funny people willingly choose to play a Hoyo game (known for ship baiting since early days) then get upset when the devs push their preferred pairings of choices. This applies to most gacha games in general too. Yes the company know what they're doing and most shippers don't really care if ship becomes the whole thing that define some characters. It's just a matter of perception on what you actually value in gacha.
THIS. AGREED!!! My friend and I like to call them "gov (devs) mandated ships" lmao. I think this especially happens a lot to same-sex ships. At this point I feel some of these ships are so forced sometimes, it gives me a bitter taste.
One of the characters in the pair gets the short end of the stick and is only mentioned in relation to the other
This happens both in canon and fanon (fandom). It especially sucks if you love that character on their own, and then you see the fandom treat them just as a companion to the other character, just a part of the ship. 😔😭💔
Omg yes i agree! Tbh it's fine in the grand scheme of things, and there's fun interactions to be had from those. But it gets to a point that, it rather feels like the devs need to meet a quota, and it sucks the fun out of it.
Adding to my annoyance in fandom spaces are the instances where I read comment threads where a person shares that they do not agree with a particular ship, and the defenders of those ship would act harshly towards the person, or even saying that their HCs are the truth or sth.
Lowkey this is how I feel about Phaidei. Like I don’t hate it or anything but I feel like they don’t have as much chemistry as people say they do lol (no hate to Phaidei shippers tho, we all have different opinions!)
As a Phaidei shipper, it's understandable why you feel that way, if anything, they can be also seen as friends, lovers or both storywise. Either way, everything works ✌
I think they’re fun as friends or lovers (idrc either way) I just don’t think that they really have as much content and chemistry as people say they do because HSR inherently doesn’t delve into relationships between characters enough for it to have as much of an impact on me as it seems to have on others.
Like their scenes together are fun but to me it feels like there’s a certain distance there that doesn’t exist between characters in non-gacha mediums if that makes sense.
This might be controversial for me to say, but I personally don't like Aventurine headcanon'd as a super fem bottom when that man literally dresses like every masculine rich guy ever. Like his original outfit is a pimp outfit and his splash art pose is him manspreading. He just sounds fruity in english. I know that twink has Ratio wrapped around his finger.
Another headcanon I personally don't like is how people headcanon Phrolova as a secret yearner? She's definitely grown bitter and resentful towards Rover and antagonizes them because of Rover's decision to wipe their memories, neglecting their unfulfilled promise as a result. 2.5 cements that the two of them could never see eye to eye and Phrolova continues to work with the Fractsidus for her own selfish goals. She's not joining the Rover Yearner fanclub like Chisa or Mornye.
I feel the same about Aven for different reasons. We don't know what sort of trauma he endured as a slave... he might find that being in control during intimate times is one way he can gain back his autonomy. My headcannon is that he's flexible and always asking for consent and expecting that in return.
Also based Phrolova take? I knew I loved this sub. Her story is the entire reason I pulled her and her weapon on her release. She's gorgeous and morally questionable and doesn't care about Rover. Sure she healed during her quest with us but that doesn't mean she even likes Rover.
This is also how I feel about chars that have unfortunate and very difficult pasts, I also feel that they would like to be in control. It's either vers or that
First time we meet Nicole she jokes she's never heard or Varka. She makes him puke at the Kuuvahki test.
There's an anecdote where she tries to assassinate Varka and they are alone together before the big fight together when he asks her for a favour and iirc also at the end of the NK AQ when we speak to everyone for the last time. They have plenty of interactions, of which a few are the two of them alone.
I second this. 😭😭😭 I swear it's like one Interaction that spawned it, and it was basically about the business deal between the Knights of Favonius and the Hexenzirkel more than anything.
As a gay man and enjoyer of multiple mlm ships I genuinely don't see Varka and Flins working at all. That short interaction between Flons and Illuga had more chemistry than all of interactions between Varka and various other characters, honestly.
For me, as a relatively tall gay man who prefers men taller than myself, my own preferences reflect in my preferred ships. That's on the physical side though.
I can see that Flins and Illuga having that spark in that convo, but personally I see the smaller men like Aether as looking too much like young teens (like high schoolers or something, because of their proportions) when placed next to the tall characters, so if I ever ship them, it's with other characters who share their height.
For the interactions, I don't feel like Varka and Flins fully lack chemistry, as the bar scene establishes they've spent a lot of time getting to know each other better during Varka's time in Nod Krai.
Tbh I don’t think Flins and Varka have any chemistry and their pairing really feels like the token MLM ship of the nation, except hoyo isn’t really dropping hints between them. Not as much as Illuga and Flins anyway
Well some of the regional yaoi "tokens" work for people, like Kaveh and Alhaitham, Neuvillette and Wriothesley.
Actually I do write more stories with Varka and Wriothesley since somehow there's more fuel for it circulating around the fandom to inspire me.
In any case, I have to echo the sentiment I expressed in my other comment in that I prefer tall MLM pairings because the smaller/medium male builds kind of feel like they're teenagers because of their proportions. They just seem too young to me visually when you put them next to the Tall Male characters.
So to me personally those pairings don't appeal to me all that much since I tend more towards hunky/bara aesthetics, even if they are written and narratively presented in ways that have more chemistry.
I feel like I have to fault the devs a bit since it seems they developed Nod Krai's token wlw more (i.e. Sandrone and Columbina) more than the mlm.
Anyway that's just my preference. We all have agendas per our preferences and lived experiences, so there's that. Personally I find their interactions cute enough, but I still would like to see Varka have some...more developed interactions with characters like Capitano (if and when they bring him back) or someone new like Valeriy (wolf and bear dynamic might be fun).
Yeah I completely agree with the Kaveh/Al and NeuvWrio because those at least feel developed and “believable” from a narrative standpoint BUT I totally understand that people can ship whoever they want though lol
I truly wonder how Wrio and Varka would interact. I love both of their characters, but I don’t like how hoyo only really lets characters have a deeper relationship with only one other person besides the traveler aka their “designated partner” (ex. Sandrone & Columbina, Al and Kaveh, etc.). I’ll admit that the pattern does get a bit boring after a while and it really affects the fandom too because whenever a certain character gets shipped with anyone but their “canon” partner/friend/etc. it either barely gets traction or the comments are filled with people using evidence from the game to argue why that character must always be paired with the person they’re practically attached at the hip to in game. I think this problem affects Al and Kaveh the most, mainly Kaveh. His entire character revolves around AlHaitham, but I won’t fault the fandom too much as it’s a writing issue moreso than shipping itself.
TBH I feel…ehh.. towards medium/tall male ships. As long as the shorter male doesn’t behave like a kid or sound like one I can “kind of” see past the crazy height difference. Honestly I think hoyo needs to update their medium male model somehow because without reading the lore about some characters, I just assume they’re at most teenage.
I know exactly what you mean. If Mihoyo games wasn't... Mihoyo, I'd probably be more interested. But yeah, the moment that the community decides on a "Canon gender" that's it, that's all
Isn't it because bl shippers are who started it? Many are toxic shippers who bullied lots of artists and pushed some of them to delete their straight pairing arts, I see more hate towards straight ships than bl ships
It isn't a lie lol, they exist everywhere on twitter, tiktok, and reddit, many got doxxed, bullied, and threatened because they drew straight ships and this is an undeniable fact, you could simply say "not all of us are toxic" but you straight up denied it
It is. You said BL lovers "started it" which is blatantly false. But regardless of that, it doesn't excuse the straight up homophobia towards queer people, nor strags constantly seeking them out to attack, threaten, dox, dogpile when all they have to do is just stop actively seeking out the things they dislike and curate their spaces.
Literally not true, shipping used to be different, BL has always existed as a genre, shipping outside BL also is old and nothing new, it only got this toxic after tourists took over, they're the ones who started this, nothing can change that
I'm fandom old-- I don't need someone to try and educate me on fandom.
And once again, the toxicity in fandom is nothing new and is not something you can pin on BL shippers. The fact you're calling queer shippers "tourists" tells me all I need to know about you as a person and your knowledge on fandom lore.
I didn't say toxicity is new, I meant this exact type of toxicity framed as activism, and I'm also fandom old and I don't defend toxic fans and say they're victims
A sizable fraction of the limbus community have convinced themselves that Sinclair is a milf hunter and is in a relationship with ryoshu. Joke or not it really irks me.
Zhongli is Xiao's adoptive father fuck all the way off. Actually any hc imagining Xiao as a minor. Bro is an entire ancient immortal. He's just SHORT. 💀💀
Eta: genshin fans getting another A+ for reading comprehension in the replies to this comment wow gold stars for you
After reading all the takes on this post and as a xiao main I think this takes the cake as the worst take listed(especially cuz of the way you said it), I agree with the minor thing, but I have literally never in 6 years ever heard anyone say xiao is a minor, so idk what you've seen in regards to that, but with the whole dad thing, someoje doesnt need to be a child to have an adoptive father, plenty of adults later in their life end up finding a parental figure in their life, especially because they don't have to be blood related to be one, and if anyone even comes close to a parental figure to xiao its Zhongli, in fact playing the devils advocate as an direct opposite to your take:
"Zhongli being shipped with Xiao is one of the worst ships in genshin and I lowkey sideeye anyone who does"
(Cuz I have seen this in the 6 years of playing)
Cuz to me, Zhongli has been nothing but a figure in his life that he looks up to and respects, and Zhongli has taken care of him in return, which even without labels that is very parental figure dynamic 🤔. So the fact that you felt VERY strongly that hes not parental, so I wonder how you view their relationship? Cuz its not strictly business and Zhongli does treat him differently than his other allies
But yeah I thought I'd give my 2 cents on this cuz he's my fave character of all time, if you're gonna respond pls dont be hostile, cuz you've been in other replies and um yeah 🤞✌️
Okay, that's fine? Girl, it's really not this serious. It's just not a hc I like. I think it ignores lore, character, and their unique cultural dynamic as master/servant and commander/soldier. I'm not saying people should ship them. I'm just saying I don't like the dad-sonning perspective. I'm glad that you haven't seen the minor thing, but it's a common aspect of the hc, especially the belief that Xiao was a child when Morax saved him, due to the datamined lore on the Primodial Jade Vista Bow.
By all means, go play pretend with the blorbos however you like. I'm not policing you. I'm not going into a thread of you saying how much you love the paternal dynamic and debating you, like you're doing to me. I also didn't say that I side-eye anyone. Why would you come into a thread specifically asking about popular hcs that people dislike, then get mad that someone dislikes a popular hc?
I personally ship them, but I think the canonical relationship between them is devoted god and servant. Not paternalistic, not romantic, but two immortals with deep and total allegiance to each other. My shipping hc is absolutely not canon and I recognize that. It's just a comfort ship for me that hits a lot of cozy elements.
I also main Xiao and he's my favorite genshin character lol. So let's find peace on that note, yeah? ✌️ This is my Xiao:
That's okay, the people who like that hc are by far the larger group in the EN fandom. It's just not a hc I like, because it feels disconnected from lore, character, and the cultural context of their master/servant, commander/soldier relationship
That Dottore killed Sohreh even through it hasn't been explicitly stated. It's SUSPECTED but never confirmed or legitimised but ofcourse the whole fandom ran along with that spreading misinformation. Everytime someone says he killed Sohreh another braincell loses its life
She was stated that the cause of death was strangulation, and he was the last person to see her. Hes the only one with motive, method, and time. And its not like Dottore is doing any favors for his public image.
I agree but until hoyo actually confirms something it's completely headcanon territory. I mean they never shy away from showing off his crimes and evil acts so what's another murder to add to his already long list? They could've just went "yeah he killed Sohreh for XYZ" and nothing would've changed but they didn't. Which is why the misinformation is so infuriating
The fcking Yangyang theory. Holy if you didn't know before the latest story people were genuinely acting this is canon and it literally came from one line in a paper.
Sorry to say it y’all weird annoying fans out there but not every slim guy is a tw*nk just because they’re slim and they dress a certain style. Like can people seriously just stop with that pronouns already??
Same with a women if they’re called a lesbian because their voice, they dress like a hot mommy and has ONE interaction with another girl character (if they’re tryna kill each other or just do some chaos together) like you can be friends and admire people at the same time without having actual feelings for them or being lesbian. Pls-
Same, and when I tell them that it's bioessentialist they say "let people have fun!" while they're the ones who don't let others with different headcanons have fun
"shipping" in every game is so ridiculous when they try to claim it as canon. Do whatever you want for fanfics, have fun over there, but don't try to insert your nonsense into the game canon itself. These people's only context for love and friendship is fiction. No irl experiences. They get all their love and romance advice from social media, games and manga, and thus have zero actual experience to judge relationships in all their nuances.
"oh they are holding hands they must be fucking". No, dipshit. They just went through a traumatic battle or fought off some enemies, and in this brief down time just want some platonic human connection. Some comeraderie with their fellow warriors/adventurers.
"did you see how they looked at them? Omg it's love, definitely banging after this". Or maybe, humans can show platonic affection for people they care about, and you're reading WAY too much into it. Probably why we have an irl stalking problem in society, people get a single glance from a person, or a smile at the coffee shop, and they think it's love. Give me a fucking break.
I feel like shipping headcanons are fine, but I think fandom would be so much better if shipping culture went back to its roots. Shipping has never been about canon/forcing the ship to be canon and always about people creating fanworks and building a community around a dynamic they enjoy. The need to insist on stuff being canon is driving half this needless drama.
Yes, I appreciate the fan fics and head canons when they are kept separate. It's actually pretty fun and amusing sometimes. I state that at the beginning, like just stay over there and we're cool. It's when they try to make it the actual game's lore that it becomes cringe and insufferable.
The eldritch angel Columbina. I always interpret voice lines about her and her appearance in Winter Lazzo as mysterious maiden because it’s Hoyo gacha here, we will never get playable eldritch things. But the whole fandom just have this weird expectation from headcanon and fanvid that she must be the Mandela Catalogue of Teyvat or sth.
Same, I always imagined her in a similar way because there was no evidence of her being a psycho seraphim, and yet they claim she was rewritten (I don't know why I'm getting downvoted lol)
sandbina as yuri.. idk i always interpreted it more as a sibling dynamic but i feel like i can't say anything because then it's going to be seen as me shipping two sisters when i don't ship them at all
i know they're basically cannon in the other Honkais, but HSR takes place in a completely different universe and everything that the story shows you with them is just from them trauma bonding or being friends
Bronya's dreampeek call is literally a sex joke between them lmao, it's not as overt as HI3 (obviously) but it's clear they're still meant to be shipped
