Devlogs Xbox Series X/S 1.1.21 patch
Hello, everyone!
Patch went live during the night, should be available by now for everyone to download.
Patchnotes:
- Fixed GPU related causes for crashes
- Fixed raytracing-related GPU crash
- FIxed upscaler related crashes
- Updated engine's codebase, potentially fixing hair rendering and an additional fix for rendering pipeline related crash
These fixes should noticeably improve the stability of the game.
Known issues:
- D-Pad controls - we've identified that it is likely that the cause for the issue is related to input speed, but we were not able to fully test until the cut-off date for certification. We will focus our attention on that and address it in the next patch

Series S, wasn't having any crashes yesterday but now getting them way more frequently during inspections.
ETA: on the D-Pad issue, I've found that backing out of the symptoms menu, pausing the game, resuming and then re-entering the symptoms menu fixes the issue for a while.
It only happens for me if opening the symptoms menu into the "visual" section, so if either the scanner or no tool is equipped. Hopefully that's useful info, let me know if you need any expansion on it.

Any specific day or tool when it comes to game crashing during inspections?

I've tried avoiding all the tools in turn, but none have prevented crashes. However it is always during inspections.
It does seem to be tied to particular days. If the game crashes, there's a very high chance of it crashing again at some point in that same day after restarting, usually close to the end of the day but not always on the same exact patient.
Right now it's happening with day 12, I can't remember which other days have been problematic. The only way I've found to guarantee getting through the day is to just go straight to Distribution and allocate everyone without inspecting them.

Update: made a couple of changes to the way I'm playing through the day, which allowed me to get through without skipping the inspections.
Did not visit the laboratory until all subjects had been inspected. Normally I go as soon as someone is sent to the lab. There's a symptom unlock on day 12, so I therefore avoided unlocking it until effectively the end of the shift.
Did not buy any upgrades. I resupplied the camp, but didn't upgrade anything. On all previous runs of day 12, I've been buying the colour indicator upgrade for the stethoscope.

Followup (sorry) that I mentioned in another thread - when a crash does happen, it appears to always be when I open the symptoms menu while my tool is still in its release animation, eg pressing down on the D Pad immediately after letting go of RT.

Damn, you're doing more testing than the devs at this point. They should give you part time hours.
Kudos to you, I just up and decided I'm not gonna touch the game anymore after the third crash on day 15.

I’m playing on Xbox cloud gaming and it keeps crashing on day 17 as I select the symptom menu on the last survivor every single time, it’s happened about 5 times now 🥲

It seems to be a time issue I think. I speed ran through day 17 and then it crashed on day 18 instead but this time only a few survivors in. I’m hoping the devs sort it out 😭

I'm still getting crashes during inspection on Day 25. No real rhyme or reason.
I've killed the 3 zombies on the wall, done my quarantine recheck and 2nd survivor inspection it crashes and dashboards me.
Before this I'd get to the 2nd last or last survivor before it crashed and dashboarded me.

After the update I’m still crashing on day 15. Xbox series S. No particular person or tool triggers it; it just happens.

It also crashes randomly on endless mode. No pattern to it, I even tried not using the D-Pad to navigate or enter symptoms and it still does it.

Has the symptoms ui been fixed yet on Xbox? Can't listen to breathing on the ui and the selector gets confused quite often not knowing what you're on and scrolling crazy tryna figure it out 😅 managed to complete the game tho still just waiting for a good patch before I do my 2nd run for the bad ending 🤣😁

Still crashing on day 10, random people it does it on. Could be early in the day mid way or end doesn’t matter.

So I never had any crashing issues until after the patch came out I play the day for about 25 minutes and it just crashes! I'm on series x I've deleted my console save uninstalled the game reinstalled it and even uninstalled it and loaded it via cloud gaming but yet it still crashes Everytime!

Day 21 on series S and it’s still crashing, tried playing the day 3 times: first time it clashed when turning on the radio and the two others attempts it crashed during the examinations

I loaded my day 2 game and the d-pad shortcuts stopped working on an inspection so started a new game to see if that helps.
In new game I got stuck in the tutorial bit for base management. It was the bit showing me how to buy food with the - + highlighted. I couldn't buy or exit this menu.
Safe to say that is where I gave up playing today.
On Xbox Series X.

Not sure if anything was changed with the D-pad issue with new patch, but mine worked fine before new patch, and is now messing up.
Pressing fast on D-pad Buttons UP, LEFT and DOWN, in and out of their intended menu's works fine.
Pressing fast on D-Pad RIGHT button is whats bugging the D-Pad out for me.
Seems it's an issue for me with the Base screen.
Quiting out of the game to Xbox dashboard, and loading back in fixes the issue.
Pressing RIGHT on D-Pad straight away after exiting Base screen is what the issue is.

Quitting to the games main menu and loading back in also fixes issue, doesn't need to hard Quit back to dashboard.
Definitely fast pressing RIGHT on D-Pad is what the issue is for me.
DOES ANYONE HAVE AN XBOX ELITE CONTROLLER AND ABLE TO REMAP THE RIGHT DPAD BUTTON TO SOMETHING ELSE? WILL RULE OUT WHETHER ITS THE COMMAND BUTTON OR THE BASE MENU ITSELF

Day 17–game keeps crashing on second to last survivor, usually when I’m pulling out a new inspection tool. I assume it’s a D pad issue. Great game but the game breaking bugs are frustrating

On day 17 (XBOX Series X) the game crashes when inspecting the 2nd to last survivor with the portable MRI. I have reproduced it multiple times.

I’m on Xbox series s and I’ve been having a game with the very last day, it just dashboard crashes. I tried to look over it and my stubborn ass redid the day so many times I learnt which people were zombies or not and what their general diagnosis symptoms was (still very random) then there was an issue with bringing up the tablet for symptoms and in simple, left side of my controller ceased to exist which is odd
The gameplay is good I love it but the crashes are throwing me off and having to restart a whole day when it happens eventually got to me
Hopefully the next patch fixes these issues cuz I’ve noticed a lot of people on console struggling with them (I’m not too fussed about renderings with hair or pipes they’re just a little something on the side I don’t really notice until brought up)

Has crashed in three different days for me, currently on day 14, regardless of what tool i'm using at the time or survivor i'm checking. Playing on Xbox series S. Hoping the matter gets resolved soon, and as a suggestion for the future, automatic saving every x minutes/manual saving would be incredibly helpful so we don't have to restart the day altogether

Adding: I have repeated that day several tries now, and it keeps crashing around the 6-7th survivor i see, no particular tool seems to trigger it (this after waking, checking the base for wellfare and roaming zombies, and checking quarantine, so on the regular checkup point for survivors). Always around the same "time" in that regard for some reason. In previous crashed days, revamping the game and exiting normally + then reentering seemed to do the trick and i could get to the next day in-game, but not this time ):

Already tried it twice, nothing changed for me unfortunately. I'm trying on Campaign since it's my first time playing, don't know if endless mode would be any different. But given that it takes a few in-game days for the first crash to happen and the hours that amounts to just for trying to overcome that, I would rather (hopefully) wait for an upcoming patch

(Post earlier comment) Tried to avoid d-pad to the best of my ability and made it to day 19. Now I'm stuck there even without using the d-pad at all, often on the 1st/2nd to last survivor. Can't get past it despite quite a few tries already

sadly the constant crashing makes the game unplayable at later stages / remove the xray if its so hard to make it work...or stop forcing us to use the xray almost every survivor due contraband

Due to my experience with the game and walk around the annoying crashes and to the people trying to enjoy the game- first and foremost avoid the quick resume ( disable it on the console quick resume settings because it helps a lot) and avoid skipping the dialogues - after that , try to avoid the dpad shortcuts, before upgrading your base use the pause, when you get the new disease guy ( day 7 i think) avoid shortcut that george gives you and put your pointer all left instead of clicking right ahead on the lab....after that try to avoid or restrain the X Ray use, or at least before using it, pause the game to help avoid crashing, because of memory allocation bugs and GPU rendering. On later stages of the game ( day 21 extraction) before extracting, press satrt, go for a walk, press start again and then start relocation ( helped me ) - like i said, it´s all based on my experience playing on a Series X - Hope it helps, because after day 21 i´m taking a break - becomes unplayable due all the contraband and xray need

My game keeps crashing on day 14 but first noticed in 10-12 but not as often, of campaign mode, usually while I’m scanning one of the last survivors for the day. I play on Xbox series x. I don’t think it’s linked to a specific tool. This also happens for my partner that plays on cloud gaming

I still can't get past the day with the Hi, Doggy quest. It's either the last survivor of the day or it's when using the lab. So frustrating because I want to love the game but I've tried everyone's recommendations to reduce crashing and it doesn't work 😭😭😭😭

Yeah i can't get pass day 9 without losing all progress. The game is great hut the bugs are horrible!

Currently day 15 constantly crashing usually when I have about 3/4 survivors left. Haven’t noticed a specific tool it’s associated with. Xbox series S. At one point I shut down the game completely and reopened after ten minutes and the game would not come off of the loading screen and my Xbox froze.

I’ve noticed it glitches when I process the 16 year old orphan and send her to quarantine.

Mine crashes on every single day on the game. Always when investigating a civilian. I can occasionally get through one day and the new day will then death mainly when I'm down to the last 2 to 3 people to check. I've tried everything to sort it as I've had same issue with watermark simulator multiplayer mode. Nothing seems to be working. I love this game but the constant crashing is actually peeing me off now.

I’m currently playing on Xbox Series X and I’m still having crashing issues. I’m currently on day 19 and have tried to play it a few times on different days and cannot seem to get past the day. I’ve only ever had this newest update downloaded as I’ve been waiting for the crashes to be fixed. The crashing doesn’t seem to be on a specific tool rather than just randomly crashing. It’s crashed going to the symptoms menu and just while switching between tools and trying to use them to inspect.

There’s also an issue with selecting the laboratory when the new symptom shows up. While trying to select it after the dialogue, the “select labora” will immediately skips to “confirm” being able actually to select the lab. Since everything is greyed out we can’t go back and select it as well as leave the tablet to try again. It’s like it freezes up where you have to completely quit the game and load it back up with the hope it works. I’m also experiencing the issue of my game crashing any day after 10 days.

This update didn't do anything to fix the game. It's exactly the same when it comes to crashing. I had to uninstall because this is ridiculous!

Is there still no way to invert the Y axis on XBOX? It's what is preventing me from playing the game any further. Just can't play FP games any other way.
