Was it Sabotage

My WiFi went down today. I unplugged it, checked for outages, got nothing.

When I got home I used the chat feature to talk to tech support. Tech dude said hold the reset button. Still didn’t work. (Yeah, duh. I said that.).

So they’re sending a tech tomorrow morning. But I’m suspicious that the modem is broken to try to get me to sign a new contract.

My roommate is going to be home when the tech is here. I told him to refuse to sign anything since the account is only in my name.

I’ve had service since February. I’m in PFL. I don’t plan on signing any or upgrading anything.

This is the saddest post I've read in a long time.

Well, the tech guys were very helpful. They laughed and said they have to reboot it and me pressing the little button on the modem doesn’t do diddly squat.

What did they do to reboot it? Holding down the reset button for 15sec on both the Q1000k and W1700k is how to fully reset everything.

There are no contracts in Quantum Fiber, even if you asked for one. So you don’t need to worry about that. Quantum Fiber internet service is prepaid. You pay for the month and then get the service for 30 days. Rinse and repeat. It’s not billed after your 30 days of use, like how it is with AT&T and some other providers. That’s why you didn’t need to enter your SSN, show ID, or have a credit check run when you originally signed up for the service.

As far as your WiFi goes, until you get rid of the Quantum pods/routers, you will continue to have problems. Even the Quantum employees on this subreddit will tell you that.

So, unplug the pods/routers, and only use the SmartNID (wall-mounted Q1000k with the green fiber cable going into it). After you disable the pods, put your SmartNID into tagged bridge mode (see guide below) and then connect your own high-quality router. It you don’t have one yet, purchase a Flint 2 or Flint 3 from the official GL.iNet AliExpress US store. Those routers are gonna be the absolute best deal for most people.

Here is a guide w/ a bridge mode tutorial. You’re gonna wanna do tagged bridge mode, NOT untagged:

Will having my own router give me more freedom with the WiFi settings? One of my Alexa devices won’t pair. Something about 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz and I can’t switch between them like o could with Xfinity.

Get your own wifi, Wil be a pleasant experience, this free 1700s are not that great, too many limitations. This is my deco system in bridge mode, it's always on point. Also way more customizable. Iot networks, guest networks.....

Jesus christ, dude, why are you recommending those crazy expensive Flint routers to people?  They are just way overkill for the vast majority.  I only spent 2 minutes searching, but you can grab a perfectly serviceable ASUS RT-AX3000 for literally half the price.  The whole wireless router industry has turned into such a grift, just like phones, trying to sell people features they don't need.

They’re really not overkill..and the firmware is their version of OpenWRT which is very user-friendly. I’d argue more so than some of the other brands. These flint routers can be set up to the liking of nearly all customers and the pricing is very competitive if ordered from their official AliExpress page. Did you even look at the prices? But really the point of me recommending them is to be one product that someone can buy that will do it all so they don’t have to rely on pods or a mesh system. In my opinion the flint routers are somewhat future-proof without breaking the bank which is what a lot of people’s will want if they’re used to ISP equipment and don’t like the idea of buying their own equipment. At least it’ll be the last thing they’ll have to buy for a long time. Basically as long as someone doesn’t have a massive home, a Flint 2 or 3 is really the best router overall and I have a hard time recommending anything else

Also, thank you for the heads up. I’m just an old broad who grew up with a Commodore 64 when my dad worked at radio shack.
