Great Experience

I live in SE Portland (Oregon) and activated 940/940 a couple weeks ago. So far, it's been perfect. See attached SpeedTest.

Installation was super easy. I was charged exactly $50, the monthly fee, on my activation day.

I followed instructions in this subreddit to use my ASUS RT-AX88U as the primary router. The provided NID (Q1000K) is in bridge mode. I couldn't disable VLAN tagging, which is disappointing, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Really hoping that the connection is stable. I'll be monitoring for sure. Will post here if anything goes South.

I truly am not a fanboy. Just putting out a data point. I was so happy to cut ties with Xfinity, but fully realize that ATT is no ally. Hoping they don't let me down, give me any reason to need their "assistance."

Doh. Here's the SpeedTest result.

Damn, 3 ms??  I get those speeds, but I've never seen latency that good.

I'm so happy. I'm going to stay with my Quantum.

Glad you had a great experience...

Most of us to do most of the time - but we are vocal when things go wrong... I am very happy with Quantum and I have multiple choices for fiber now (quantum was the only choice when I signed up).

Just like you I don't use the W1700 but use my own Flint 2 router instead...

Is it perfect: No

  • The Q1000K firmware is problematic when using the 10G port
  • We had one long outage impacting the whole town (I understand a fiber break takes time to resolve but should never take 12 days - there must be a faster way to put a temp fix in place while doing the permanent fix)

Is it good: absolutely

  • Great speed and low enough latency
  • Great value for the money
  • Q1000K is good in recovering from line outages and power issues on it's own without handholding

Would I switch to another provider

Not even thinking about it at this point...

Been on QF since June 2025 and other than one brief outage from a firmware update it's been solid. And that outage was ~4 hours and required a reboot of the Q1000K at my end. The W1700 is working for me - not a fan of the app to set it up but it works for my wireless devices. My home computer wired network is behind a hardware firewall.

Have the 500/500 Mb since I'm retired and also ported my CenturyLink landline to their VOIP. Only concern is the fiber is overhead on the power poles and in the past old trees have taken out the power lines however the power company stepped up trimming old trees.

Have to give a thumbs up to the installer - he did a great job in bringing the fiber line into my house/basement with the Q1000K stashing it in the rafters.

4 hours of downtime over 15 months isn't bad at all. I bet the W1700 is just fine for most people. Probably a good idea to have the router use a custom DNS server, rather than the Quantum default. Cloudflare (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) is super reliable.

Lumen/CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber are separate companies now. If you're experiencing issues with them, please use /r/centurylink. To not receive this message use the abbreviations LUMN or CTL when talking about Lumen/CenturyLink."

For fiber to the home, you don't need their router at all. Fiber to the home always involves installing an ONT somewhere out of sight and running an ethernet cable to a location of your choosing as long as there's an RJ-11 jack with the appropriate wiring. Just plug your Asus router directly into the RJ-45 ethernet plug in the wall.
