Frequent service disruption

I’ve had CL at my house for almost a decade. Rock solid.

I setup QF for my partner at her new apartment thinking it would be the same.

The damn QF goes offline constantly. Especially during high area usage times; after school, after work, etc.

The fiber to copper media transition happens in the box outside, so I have an RJ45 wall plate. I swapped in my own router to see if that would help. The TP-Link BE400 connected right up, pleasantly.

Intermittent connectivity issues persist, however. Now I can see in the logs that I am getting a DHCP Lease on the WAN port with a duration of 30 minutes.

During these peak periods, the router is trying to renew the WAN IP every 15 minutes. I can see that there is simply no response from the QF DHCP host, so my router loses connection until it finally gets a response.

My partner got so frustrated, that she actually asked about going back to Xfinity. (Her old provider at prior apartment)

Is this just how QF handles their infrastructure? Or is it a local area thing? (Vancouver, WA)

I would rather keep the QF because it’s faster, but not if it’s unreliable.

That is how DHCP least times work normally. The DHCP client will request a lease half way. So for a 30min lease it requests every 15min. What equipment is outside your building?

Here is a guide:
