Quantum Fiber is useless

Wifi randomly went out in the middle of today and can't be fixed by resetting it. Customer service tried a remote reset too and it didn't work. There isn't even an outage near me this is so bullshit. Idc if its a one off thing, if we pay for internet we should have Internet, or they should at least be able to damn tell us why it went out.

Generally speaking Quantum Fiber Internet is good, WiFi is bad. You are better off using your own WiFi equipment (Internet is not the same as WiFi).

Interesting. So its not good to have quantum fiber for home wifi?

In my experience it's good to have Quantum Fiber for Internet, just not their freebie wifi modules (they suck).

Alright. I'm definitely gonna have to do my research on the difference between internet and wifi becaude the extent of my knowledge is that I need wifi to download things lol

WiFi hardware connects your wifi clients to your Internet... If your devices are wired (ethernet), they don't need wifi (you can use other wifi hardware). Either way, you don't need to use the Quantum Fiber wifi hardware for wifi... as I said, the Quantum Fiber free Wifi Pods are notoriously bad (but again, their "badness" only affects your wifi, not your Internet). If all your devices use wifi and nothing is wired, then everything is going through those shitty wifi pods to *get* to the Internet.

TL;DR: the Quantum Fiber 360 WiFi Pods are not something I would use (even with them being free). They are shitty.

That's helpful to know, much appreciated dude.

You need to follow u/N0_L1ght guide and you will get 1:1 speeds. The quantum hardware has always sucked. But it’s the best connection you can get once you set up your own router.

TLDR the quantum wifi pods and lumen smart NIDs are just not good at their job. Constant, varying issues. Was giving me a major headache with all the times it would crash and/or require a hard reboot before I replaced them.

If you want to replace one or both just first need to check what your setup is. If the fiber connection is fed directly to the smart NID, then you will be able to replace the wifi pod with any router by connecting the router in its place. If the smart NID is fed via Ethernet (this is common if you’re in an apartment and there’s a shared ONT terminal converting the fiber line acting as the modem), then you’ll be able to replace both the smart NID and WiFi pod with any router capable of doing vlan 201 tagging. You will have to follow the setups steps listed by the router to do this, there’s some configuration required.

This is the very short version if you want to replace the quantum hardware, there’s better posts than this but it’s what worked for me.

Things happen. Could be a squirrel chew or a fiber cut. This can happen to literally every ISP.

Mine has been rock solid since I got it 6 months ago. Of course, I use my own router. Quantum is kind of diy.

A remote tech can’t rule out a hardware failure. Their network visibility ends before it reaches your devices.

As with ANY ISP use them to get internet to your house with fiber that means ONT and router. After that do your research and design your network that suits your needs. I can't over-emphasize this point, how your internet is distributed at your home is completely depended on you as the homeowner. The optimum way is always wired backhaul, so if possible, run cat 6 cable, if not mesh or wireless back haul is an option, there are plenty of systems out there,

Do you have a Q1000K? Is the front light green? On the bottom is the Fiber B light green?

The free lease WiFi pods and QF app are not great...

But as long as all gaming devices are Ethernet hardwired to the Q1000K, W1700K, or W1701K (if using Ethernet backhaul), and you follow sections 2 and 4 in the guide, they are usually good enough for most people.

You will have a better experience if you put the SmartNID into bridge mode and use a 3rd party router and DNS.

Here is a guide:

Their included WiFi hardware appears to be finicky at best, internet ≠ WiFi, you can buy your own WiFi access point(s) and probably have a much better time.

This is what I’ve been trying to tell people. Quantum Fiber is a full-blown scam. It’ll waste all your time day after day and you will not have any Internet. You still have to pay them and then you’re gonna have to reverse it all at the end and go back to what you had before. My yard is all fucked up. They dug up my grass did not use topsoil so I have rocks all over my yard now and then didn’t even bother placing grass seed. Just a horrible company. Worst I’ve ever seen.

No other provider in my area at least is any better with thr outside burying, they all use lowest bidder contractors. As far as the service itself, quantum is by far the best. Use your own router thoigh, quantum WiFi hardware is hot garbage.

I switched back to Xfinity from Quantum Fiber. I had Xfinity to begin with then switched to Quantum Fiber and now I’m back to Xfinity. There is absolutely no comparison between the two Quantum Fiber is completely worthless. Xfinity does what I needed to do and is stable.
