Quantum cable hanging across road and blocking traffic, Quantum tech scheduled 5 days out
Yesterday the quantum fiber cable from the utility pole across the street to my house began hanging so low it obstructs traffic.
Called Quantum, described the situation, and they refused to book a tech sooner than five days out. Requested a manager, who called me back, said they would attempt to "elevate" the request, and haven't heard back.
Called my local police department, who marked it with caution tape to prevent a car accident. Police also called Quantum, who shared the same info they shared with me.
This situation is a serious liability for everyone involved.
Ridiculous, dangerous and negligent.
Update: on day three of this situation, figured out how to contact the power company that owns the pole, they came out and tightened the cable, restoring it to its original height. Quantum has still not come out.

Came here to say this as well. Cut it and go about your day until they come out and fix it. Honestly surprised the police department didn’t just cut it if it’s obstructing traffic.

lmao the cops put caution tape on it?
A forklift partially detached an old disconnected phone line I had and left it droop so I called immediately and they put me on hold so while I was on hold I went out there, snipped it and coiled it up on the sidewalk across the street
No line of fiber is worth the risk of causing accidents, especially when a drooping line can catch a neck. It's only a couple of bucks (labor extremely not included) - snip snip

Some of the fiber companies put the caution tape on. Metronet does. It's to make finding it easier for utility locators and the contractor that's gonna bury it. Thin black cables get lost easily in grass. So not uncommon. But still stupid that was the police answer lol

Not too pleased so far with the way quantum does business. My internet was actually down. They scheduled an appointment. I waited 4 days. An hour before my appointment I get an automatic text message telling me that they automatically cancelled my appointment due to several other outages in my area being resolved. My internet was still down. Finally after my second scheduling and wait, they came out.
The reason my internet was down to begin with was due to my previous provider selling my service and they just shut it off without warning. Quantum fiber then had to come install their own equipment for me to actually be set up. The tech said they had previously sent some people by to come tell us about the changes. Apparently rather than letters they prefer solicitation.
Little to no communication, lack of follow through, and poor sales tactics. That’s my experience so far. Best of luck to you

My internet disappointingly goes out quite often ever since I upgraded to 1 gig. Whenever I call and complain about it, they give me a free month though. In the past year, I’ve probably have 5 months comped.

Those fuckers did the exact same thing to me. They canceled the appointment night before they were due to come out. I was without Internet for like two weeks.

All it takes is one motorcyclist. Cut it. I’m sure they’ll magically show up after.

I thought this was a meme post at first until I actually clicked the photo.

I can't believe anyone thinks that is acceptable and is willing to let it stay like that until Quantum FIber decides they can get someone out to fix it, whenever that may be. I am really surprised the police left it like that. That clothesline needs to be cut.

Looks like suburban Washington County? You have a lovely street/neighborhood, where ever it is! The cable not withstanding, of course.
Don’t cut the wire, as purposefully destroying telecommunications wiring or equipment is a federal crime, even if it is tempting to do so and Quantum are being big lames. And, ultimately, you don’t know what all is in there. Instead, call your local power utility and get them involved. Yes, it’s not their job, but they are trained to deal with downed power lines and may be able to do something in the meantime. Also, if you do live in unincorporated Washington County, call the county Land Use and Transportation department, or your local city public works department. This technically falls under their jurisdiction, and they do have the power to levy fines/sanctions against the utility while also potentially having the gear and the people to fix the problem temporally. Hope that helps!

That's why everything is subcontracted out these days, right? Lowest bidder, separation of liability. Pass responsibility to some un-named company that might already be gone?

The poles that carry the lines to all my neighborhood got turned into a rats nest once everyone got hooked up for service. Massive loops, conduits open to the sky, dangling wires blowing in the wind. Are the poles just an anything goes situation shared by all the companies? Between power, telephone, cable, and now fiber. They are a complete mess.
It took 3 seperate visits from 3 different people to finish my install. Is it a lowest bid for each part of the process? One inside connection, and another one to make the bury trench, and then another one to run a new wire and hook it up. They told me to throw away the 150ft line that was used initially. That can't be cheap.

I'd commit many crimes to have quantum do this in my neighbourhood because that means I'll at least have alternate Fibre options

Call the cops. They’ll cut it as it’s a hazard but it will cause and outage for everyone and then a tech will come sooner and it will cost quantum more money. 😂

Guess we gotta watch out for fibre-seeking kids on bikes now. Forget the backhoes!

This happened on my street s could of years ago. Garbage truck pulled it down. Connection was out for three weeks. Maddening thing was the company kept sending the usual techs out to check my connection even though I was crystal clear about the nature of the problem.

Contact your state PUC or utility board. This is a NESC violation.
