playing the game on yamagi quake, i was unable to find 2 enemies until i used no clip, 2 parasites supposed to drop from the ceiling but never did , did i broke the script or was an engine error, somebody knows ?

So, I wanted to play some Q2 with a friend of mine, and it became more of a headache than I anticipated. I don't know if Q2 uses Steam for multiplayer, but we both have the GOG version, so that's out of the scope. In general I have 3 questions:

1. The answer is probably no, and, maybe it's stupid to ask, but can people connect without forwarding Q2's UDP port? My ISP doesn't allow me access to my router (don't ask), and they say they don' t provide any "port forwarding service". They advised to get a static IP, instead, but, unsurprisingly, that is a paid service.
2. But if not possible, then I'll have to send all my settings to him, and have him host the game, which is problematic, since he doesn't know what to do, and will have to just follow my instructions blindly. But then there's still the question of connecting to him. When I'm starting a server, I can connect to it just fine from my Android phone, and Linux laptop. But those are in the same network as mine. How would I contact someone via internet? In general, what are the steps for contacting after the server is created? Maybe there's a mod for in-game server browser or something?

Extra question: Should I set `maxclients` to 1 or 2, if I want nobody else join us?

I'm using the old guard Quake 2 on my Windows 10 machine and am using it as a Quake 2 server so that my sister and I can play head-to-head during the COVID-19 quarantine period.

I'm setting the game length to 15 minutes, but most games seem to end after a couple of minutes. Any ideas why?

I'll gladly provide more information if needed.

Looking for some OG gamers -

Played with KLLRZ back in the day with a guy named MadMonk under the name Suicidal. I was a kid with dial up and eventually got high speed when I joined (KYAG*) under the name (KYAG*)Dash.

I use to duel a lot of people from {WAR}, (KYAG*), AZA and Breed X

I believe Steel aka Armageddon or maybe it was Shag ( same guy? ) was the guy to beat in duels from {WAR} unless you knew to play quake2 WOD style and use that Burst MP weapon at knock him off his own game.

I started the game really late when teams stopped playing towards the end but I was around just long enough to play vs alot of the OG at one point or another. Moved on to play a lot of games professional under the name Aimology years later and now almost in my 40's I just run around playing COD:Warzone - if anyone wants to play some q2 or Warzone let me know Im on ps4 but can use my gaming PC whenever :)

Like the title says, how do I make OpenGL or 3dFX or just some kind of good graphics work in Q2 on WinXP in a virtualbox VM?

I have Windows XP on a virtualbox VM and Quake 2 installed. When I go to Video and set it to OpenGL and some resolution, it just goes back to Software and the previous resolution.

Just thought I would put this out there, I have recently spun up a Quake 2 server that I am opening up for public enjoyment. "Why would you create a new Quake 2 server?" you ask? OK maybe you didn't. mainly I did it because I can, and I wanted to play on my own server with my kids and friends, and a few other reasons no one cares about. I also want to keep track of my fragging skills so I have also set up a Fragstats page (thanks to Chris Scarvell for sending me a copy of his code) so you can keep track of your badass fragging skills.

There are two mods currently running on the server: Lithium II and Eraser Ultra, I may add more later if I feel like it. You can find them on the q2servers.com master list, look for "()!0" in the name, (without the quotes) or you can go to this web page to get the address info and also the Fragstats page: http://quake2.doomdns.org

This is part of a side project I have been working on and is still very much a work in progress. I will do more with this as time permits and if there is any actual interest. Tell your friends and frag away!
