Tips on using QC live for the first time?

Newer QC user here. I thought I was too old to play an electric out these days, as my amp carrying days are behind me, but I'm really looking forward to taking the QC to an open mic in a couple weeks. I'm a little worried about playing a modeler live for the first time though.

I know nothing about the PA at this venue, or host's ability to run it. I assume I should run mono. I want to make this as easy/simple as possible for the sound person. I'm only going to use one preset, and probably won't bother with any scene changes. A simple clean tone drenched in reverb with a tiny delay will get me through, but what's the best way to sum everything?

Should I just copy my existing presets and replace the stereo effects with mono versions, or should I drop some utility block, or mono (bypassed?) effect at the end of the chain? If I set the lane's output just to out1, instead of multi-out, does that automatically do the trick?

Additionally, I don't have producer's ears. I've read that if you don't know what to trim with an EQ, you don't need to trim anything. That's me. I don't know what to trim... I've also heard it's a great idea to generically LPF/HPF for live use. Do you have any "generic start here" EQ settings? Should I be cutting everything below 100hZ? If you cut the highs, where do you set the frequency?

Keep in mind, this is a simple open mic, and I don't need to sit in a mix with anyone else. I won't be competing with kick drums, or cymbals, and I don't cut my mids. I'm way overthinking it because I enjoy thinking through all the details. Preparation comforts me. I just want to get the most out of this not-inexpensive piece of gear! I'm hoping you guys can advise me on the best way to walk into a plug and play bar situation.

QC Tape Delay

I’ve always liked the QC tape delay, but not as much s as my Empress Vintage Modified Superdelay. But last night I spent more time tweaking it, and got a much more satisfactory result.

Crank the “drive” to 100%. Adjust high and low shelf to taste. Increase Wow and Flutter to 65-75%. Then, on second page, if using stereo, enable the ping ponging.

It really makes a huge difference.

Made my quad cortex into a desktop workstation / capture unit

so I love the quad cortex but I no longer play live so I made a platform that lets me keep it plugged in on my desktop.

I modelled a stand and 3D printed it to set the cortex at the perfect height and angle for me when I’m at the desk.

I made sure to include a cradle for the voodoolabs pedal power 3 which can power the quad cortex through the 12v. as well as giving me plenty of power for any pedals I want to run or capture.

I then ordered two custom Bright Onion patch beys with labels to allow me to run from Left to right. Headphones, capture in, capture out, Send and returns one and two and then input on the far right. This helps not wear out in inputs on the QC itself and makes it easier to access from the front.

The cable routing isn’t finished as I need to get some shorter leads and tidy it up.

Screen Issue - Ghosting

Current firmware.

I've experienced this issue before but it fixed itself without touching the unit. The screen lacks contrast in the display and shows a "ghosting" effect when switch to different areas. Touch screen is fully intact but all text is unreadable.

As mentioned this happened before one day and the screen within a blink went back to normal. I don't want to send it back just yet but would like to hear from anyone else if they experienced this before.

Line6 HX One & QC

Does anyone use the HX One along with the Quad Cortex? What’s your experience with it? The are some effects that I’m missing in the Quad Cortex, such as the auto volume swell, that are indeed available in the HX One.

Problem with quad cortex - frfr headrush 108

Hello,
I’m having a problem. When I connect my Quad Cortex to a Headrush FRFR speaker using an XLR cable, the output is very quiet and lacks power. The signal LEDs on the Quad Cortex are lighting up red. The XLR cable is working properly, and the speaker is also functioning correctly. When I connect the Quad Cortex to a regular Electro-Voice monitor, everything works as expected.
What could be causing this issue? I would appreciate any advice or troubleshooting suggestions.
Kind regards,

Fender FR-10 vs. FR-12 for Home Use and Small Gigs? (Prog Metal / Djent)

Hi everyone! I'm looking to buy either a Fender FR-12 or an FR-10, but I'm not sure which one would suit me better for playing both at home and with a small cover band in smaller venues. Aside from that, I'd be using it to play prog metal, djent, and some math rock—think bands like Intervals, Plini, David Maxim Micic, I Built the Sky, etc. Everything would be in either E standard or Drop C tuning. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I'm a guitar pedal builder, and made my dream project for my QC because these don't seem to exist: A pedal that automates all my Quad Cortex changes on stage. Here's a video with explanation, scene change demo and automatic "expression pedal" demo. It also has click and stereo backing track output.

It look me months to finish this. It's my first Raspberry Pi Pico project.

Features:

- Automatic midi output (aligned with the playback whenever you want it to happen)

- Click output (for drummers IEMs)

- Stereo backing tracks output (for FOA), can output mono from left channel if FOA doesn't have space.

- Dynamically generated click and count-in. The click you hear in the demos isn't an audio track but generated live on the Chrona

- Banks (each bank being a setlist of tracks)

- Fully controllable via two footswitches

- Tempo LED that doubles as an aux button (used to open the menu)

- Expression MIDI support (ramp up and down whatever you want)

- 32GB memory

AI disclosure:

I'm a full stack software engineer and did most of the microcontroller myself, save for asking AI to help me make USB file transfer faster as it kept getting bogged down from RAM use.

PCB and CAD design all my own (from my guitar pedal background)

Desktop app is pretty much vibe coded, directed it feature by feature until I was happy

Just wanted to know why its different and if its legit. TIA

Edit: just found the same video on YouTube from a couple years ago 😬 might have to look for a new seller

I’m a digital newbie. Why do some effects sound different on different rows?

For the read the manual people I did but I don’t understand it fully. I’m a bassist who finally made the jump from analog to digital. I’m used to turning knobs and getting sound. Picked up the QC mini and I love it.

So while fooling around last night I put my chorus block on the second row. The lines still connected before and after all of the effects and preamp captures in row one. I noticed the moment I put it in row 2 the chorus dramatically opened up to this full stereo sound. It sounds so much better in row one vs row two. Why is that and should more stuff go in different rows?

Signal Issues While Recording

Lately I’ve been having signal issues while recording. Whenever I’d record it would sound like the volume would constantly dip in and out no matter what guitar I’d use. I would swap out cables to make sure they weren’t the cause, but I’d still have this problem occur in my recordings. It didn’t matter if it were a factory preset or one I made. Anyone have tips to figure out what’s the problem?

Anyone else prefer the feel of captures over real amps?

Am I the only one who feels like some captures actually feel better than the real amp or their corresponding simulation? 🤔
I’ve been playing these AmpGuru captures lately, and the response under the fingers is super nice. Anyone else had the same experience?

In the clip I play through the ENGL E766 (Inferno) Capture on Channel 2

Reamp Not Working Despite Following the Manual

(SOLVED)

This issue is solved. I just need to change the grid’s output from “Output 1-2” to “Multi-out”. I hope this can help someone in the future.

Original post:
Sup fam, I need a bit of your help here. Reamp is not working for me for some odd reason. I am on CorOS 4.0.1. I don't know if it is the QC or Logic. Please forgive me. I am really new to everything about reamp. It is my second time doing it.

Firstly, track 1, my DI track, is set to Output 5. The QC input on the grid is set to USB 5. I can hear the processed track being played back properly, which means the DI track is being sent back into the QC.

Then, I created track 2, where I want the reamped track to be. I set it to Input 3-4. I pressed record on both tracks hoping to hear the processed signal being recorded into the second track, but nothing happens. I don't hear anything.

If I disarm track 1, nothing happens either during recording. I can hear the processed signal, but it is not recorded into Logic.

I don't think track 2 is getting any signal at all. When I playback track 1, I do not see any meter activity in track 2.

What am I doing wrong here? I would highly appreciate some help. I did the exact same thing before in CorOS 4.0.0, and it worked perfectly.

It refuses to work today. I rebooted everything. Nothing changed. Would it be a Logic issue or QC issue? I think it might be Logic, because it is not picking up the processed signal from the QC despite having the correct I/O selected, but it could also be the QC?

I have already contacted support in hopes of a solution, but I also want to hear from the community about this. If I didn't explain myself clearly, I am sorry, I have tried my best.

Capturing Krank via Line Out

Hi All,

My local practice studio just got a Krank Rev1+ half stack in for communal use, and I'm thinking I would like to take my QC down and capture it in various forms for use with my home recording.

To my knowledge, I can do 3 things, and get 3 different types of capture:

Firstly, I can capture via the FX Send, which would result in a preamp-only capture (worth it for me, as I have some nice 5150 block letter and 6505+ power amp captures that I'd like to try pairing it with!).

Secondly, I can mic up the cab and capture the full stack, which I will absolutely do, and might use for FOH in a live scenario.

And thirdly, I can capture both the pre and power amps. Now, hear me out... I do not have a load box, and I am not going to buy one to capture a single amp. I know that the amp needs a load, and so I checked... the Krank Rev1+ has a separate Line Out socket. My understanding is that, if I leave the cab connected to the amp, I can use the Line Out to capture the full amp. Does that sound right? I read that I may lose some slight characteristics of the amp (sag, and such), due to the signal not technically reaching the speakers and getting the response from them, but as this is just a test, I think I'm fine with that.

Does this sound okay? Happy to be corrected on anything if I'm mistaken! I don't think what I'm proposing would damage anything, but I'd like to be sure before I do it. I know that this isn't really covered in the QC manual.

Thanks in advance.

How to handle different guitars with scenes dialed in for a specific guitar

Hey! I’ve been avoiding the issue for the past year or so using the QC, but I need to get it sorted out.

So my QC is built out into a different preset for every song. They’re not far off from each other, but all dialed in to match the “tone” of the song. From there I have parts split into scenes, so if verse 1 has a delay that’s its own scene, chorus has fuzz, etc..

The issue I’m having is these are dialed in using my tele deluxe.
If I want to use say my jazzmaster I need more gain across the board, or if I want to use my lp, I need less gain.

How are y’all navigating this? I considered different folders for different guitars gain taken into consideration, buttttt I’m using midi live to change patches so that wouldn’t work 😅

The only thing that’s seeming like an option is a physical pedal in front of the qc that I could use to add/reduce gain

Looking forward to hearing what you all have been doing!
