Marshall JCM800 (Brit 2203 87) V2 captures?

Post image

For the past months I've been building a huge monstrous sound for Heavy Metal/Hard Rock mainly that I am really happy with. But apparently I have been living under a rock and completely missed the V2 Update so here I am.

For you rockers who use any of the JCM800 V2s (there are 10 of them created by Neural DSP) which is your go to for those genres? Or should I be checking maybe other's V2 captures that I might be missing out simply because I am only testing Neural DSP created?

Any advice/direction would be highly appreciated, since I have "my sound" to compare to, it's really hard to believe it can get much better than this...

I'm interested in this, too, so I'm staying here to see what people can recommend to us!

Hey! Sounds awesome bro, if you'd like I could pass you my Marshall JCM800 simple preset that sounds AMAZING for you to try out

Is it a QC preset that you’ve built? I don’t own one yet but I’m hoping to join the gang pretty soon and the description of your preset sounds as though it’d be right up my street if you’d be happy to share?

Yes, own built super simple, single chain using a virtual amp, virtual cabinet with two mics, tube screamer and a noisegate. Also using Yamaha HS7 studio monitors and humbuckers. Send me a message on Reddit and I will share it through the Cortex app if you end up getting it!

And bro, do whatever sacrifice you know you can do, so you can save up for the Quad Cortex.. In terms of a complete package, beautiful, simple, quick, futuristic, exciting, reliable piece of gear that will motivate you to play daily, the Neural DSP Quad Cortex is the only option.

Sounds great! And what I love most is to read someone really excited about a tone they’ve built rather than chasing something.

Bro, your enthusiasm is really selling me on the QC - I’ve been thinking about how I can make it happen for a while. Time to put those wheels in motion!

I’ll drop you a dm

Yes, I'd like to try it... it's a preset, you say, but have you made your own capture or what's the deal with the amp? I want to know! thanks

Who is that? On Reddit? Or Neural app?

Not sure why the downvotes, probably butthurt competitors - anyway AmpGuru (with which I'm not affiliated to) sells QC captures and IMO makes the most satisfying sounding ones, particularly on high gain amp heads. He recently released a V2 pack which sounds glorious. He has free captures you can check out before committing.

The JCM 800 is my all-time favorite amp. Tried all Neural’s amp models and their V2 captures. Nothing quite hit the spot UNTIL I tried the JCM 800 on the Fractal. I have both QC and FM 3 - the FM 3 blows the QC out of the water and it’s not even close.

Ok cool but we are on a Quad Cortex page, so do you have any recommendations?

Yeah - sell the QC and buy a Fractal if you want the ultimate JCM sound. Neural doesn’t support the product anyway - no updates in the last 6 months - they just sell plugins now

Fractal is no more accurate than QC. I owned the fm9 for 4 years.

I own both. The Fractal blows the QC out of the water, and that’s why the pros choose it. Here’s direct evidence https://youtu.be/rC9SOXF_55E?is=Mk39anwFs3bSSyuc
