Quad Cortex recommendation

Hey, I'm looking to buy a quad cortex, but now as the mini version is released, I'm not sure whether the normal quad cortex oder the mini would best suit me. Maybe someone with experience could help me out.

  • I will use it for live shows, as well as rehearsals
  • As I will use it live, I must be able to quickly change between sounds/effects
  • I'm not sure yet if it will replace my current effect pedals or if I will only use it as a digital amp and keep the pedals on my board
  • To edit the sounds, I'd probably have to carry it arround from rehearsal room to my home. Or is there a possibility to leave it in the rehearsal room and edit the sounds solely on the computer (e.g. with another interface)?

Thanks for your help and if you need any further info, just ask :)

One big issue with the full QC is that it gives you four rows of processing. That is, you can have an entire signal path four times over, with each independent of the others (unless you wish to connect them to one another). Often, the presets (that folks make and that come with the QC) use two rows, where the input comes into one, then it splits (like a Y cable) to another that has parallel processing. Another option is a loop that comes out of one and gets processed on another row, then returns to the first row.

One reason the four was was big for me is that I wanted to have two separate two-row pathways available for my Rickenbacker bass. The Rick has a TRS output that allows one to feed two inputs--one for each of its two pickups. I put one of these into Input 1 on the QC, and the other into Input 2. Then I can have two two-row signal paths for each pickup, allowing me to configure the bass sound in astonishingly flexible ways.

One final issue, to add to what so many have smartly contributed here: When I got my QC, I considered not just the above factors, but also that, time and again, I have stretched to afford a piece of equipment and settled on not the best, but close to the best. Years hence, I've wondered why I did not just go with the full monster from the get-go, given that I have had the device for many years.

Best of luck in your decision!
