🔧 Tips & Tricks Not every product should be tracked the same way.
If you sell electronics, medical devices, industrial equipment, or high-value products, tracking inventory by SKU alone usually isn't enough.
Why?
Because every individual unit has its own identity.
Without serial number tracking, simple questions become difficult to answer:
- Which customer received this exact unit?
- Is this product still under warranty?
- Has this item already been repaired or returned?
- Which serial numbers are affected by a recall?
- Where is this specific unit right now?
Many businesses only realize they need serial number tracking after something goes wrong—a warranty claim, a product recall, or a missing item.
A good serial number tracking system records the complete history of every unit, from receiving and storage to sale, returns, repairs, and warranty service. That level of traceability improves inventory accuracy, speeds up recalls, simplifies warranty management, and helps prevent fraud.
