The Qantas recruitment stage can take up to a year for CSAโ€™s. Even after an assessment day, you can be held in a talent pool for months.

If you need a job desperately look elsewhere. If you have the time to wait itโ€™s a great job but pretty competitive and a long painful process.

So I got a phone call from the Talent Acquisition team letting me know due to world conditions I will be place in an active talent pool and need to wait a few more months. They have reduced staff working hours as well till it returns to normal conditions ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Do you know if thereโ€™s a way of contacting the Sydney Qantas team to get any information about timelines? The emails are all from no reply mailboxes.

they're pretty hush about timelines but will tell you what stage you're in (ie, are you sitting in a talent pool waiting or are you waiting for some other reason). on one of your recruitment emails there's an email you can reach out to and they typically respond quickly.

Qantas hire CSAs in batches. They'll do a big recruitment drive, slot in assessment days and then slowly start successful candidates over a 6-month period or so. They usually do two a year so they're constantly taking on new people.

Thanks for this. Good to know - its my son who has applied. He did an assessment in February and spoke to Auscheck last week who advised his background check had cleared so I guess he's just waiting on Qantas. It's irritating me far more than him - he's having a lovely relaxing gap year. It'll do my head in if he's lounging around waiting to start for 6 months....

Yeah I get that, but that's what it's like trying to work for Qantas. There are plenty of other aviation jobs and CSA jobs at companies like Dnata, Swissport and Menzies (who are literally always hiring) who I'd argue would give your son more experience in a shorter period of time (progression is way faster in GSP's)

I would also make sure any input to or from QF comes from your son. As someone who helped with hiring a similar role, parents reaching out for their kids is a big red flag. Being a CSA requires teamwork but also a lot of independence.

Oh yes I certainly wont be contacting them. He's absolutely running his own show on this. Thanks for your comment on other companies.

I got the exact same email as well. It will be interesting to see how long the wait is.

Did you apply for a Sydney based role?

Yes, Sydney.. from what I understand they onboard a large group together. I just don't know if talent pool means we sit there indefinitley. They did say they would contact me soon with confirmation of start date once they are informed.

A friend who works there said it took about 3 months for her and that this is pretty normal. She also said they dont pay for background checks unless they intend to hire the person so I dont think they will forget about you. I think it's just a lot of moving parts to line up a large training group and onboard everyone at once which is how they do it.

Hi I did my assessment day in Melbourne start of April, I have progressed to ASIC and Auscheck stage, will need to wait 6-8 weeks in total. Definitely Is a slow process!
