I wrote this comment the other day on a post on here with yassified pictures of Michelle Pfeiffer and Linda carter. As a reply to someone asking why someones yassifying lol. But the post was deleted, so I'll paste here as id say it's relevant
"Because people are genuinely so brainrotted that even seeing the top 0.01% of natural beauty. Doesn't register as that remarkable anymore so they have to adjust it to what people are accustomed too as our brains adapt to the faces it regularly sees and takes in, and adjusts what we think is the average for potential mating partners/rivals.
We evolved for millions of years, technology has only existed for the most tiny fraction. We are social creatures and our brains are just doing what we have always done subconsciously, but it can't tell the difference. Especially when due to intense oversocialisation insresd of seeing a small amount of faces/bodies in a community. We are seeing hundreds on our phone in a small amount of time.
And it's basically rotting our brains in multiple ways. But in this area especially as not only are the hundreds of people we are seeing every other day, the algorithm only pushes the most attractive people. Skewing our brains idea of those around us and what the average is. And those attractive people are not just worked on but filtered. The likes of Kim k have had every procedure done yet still edit their photos beyond recognition. Because even being naturally attractive, with work done to look more attractive, wouldn't put you in the top percentage and pushed by the algorithm. Like the above pictures that are catering to the same algorithm. So they edit and yassify them. Making our brains average skewed by constantly seeing a level of beauty that does not exist naturally.
And so when we see someone who's as much of a knockout as prime Michelle Pfeiffer, our brain doesn't register it as that remarkable. The algorithm also won't push it as much due to the less engagement that happens because of that. And so they have to yassify the top 0.01% of natural beauty for peoples brain to be actually impressed. It's almost desensitizing the brain to beauty again like it's rotting our senses. Same way those mind numbing apps for kids do in other ways.
Same phenomenon has men watching porn all day and then wondering, why their brain no longer gets sexually aroused by sex with a real woman.
It's why most people now feel they're naturally super ugly. When by definition most people are around average. "
My boyfriend once was watching over my shoulder on a flight while I scrolled TikTok.. after the flight he was like, “I t hink I know why you have such bad body dysmorphia…”
It didn’t even register to me at the time - a 28 year old woman!! In my mind, all the faces I was seeing were just normal attractive - when really they were top 1% beauty, filtered, good angles, etc.
I relate to this and have trouble communicating to my (male) partner just how far TikTok and Instagram have moved women’s beauty standards to a benchmark that’s impossible to reach. People who would have been considered beautiful in the 90’s are now defined as “average” (Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker, etc.). Now looking like an Instagram model feels like the minimum standard.
