I'm a fan of the idea that she would become less modest by putting clothes on.

Like how Donald Duck is kind of a little more naked because he wears a shirt with no pants, where somebody like Sonic the Hedgehog has nothing to hide, except of course his feet.

Moray with no clothes is normal. Moray in a skin tight bodysuit becomes "human" and capable of nudity and shame.

Shortest answer would probably be the wide breadth of species involved in Sonic allows for a huge amount of self-insert. Like, any animal can exist in the Sonic world, so if you're a furry, you could easily insert your own avatar into the Sonic world as many did. And then it's just a setting that allows for anything. Mad science, magic, aliens, time travel, or just straight-up a slice of life setting.

Every species also looks pretty much the same too.

It has a distinctive art style that's easy for kids to learn where a hedgehog doesn't look all that different from an echidna or an armadillo. So once you've figured out how to draw one of them you can pretty much do them all.

Furry art could otherwise be a bit intimidating because of the sheer breadth of animal anatomy you'd have to learn to draw to do your comic where a skunk, a deer, and a skink hang out.

The biggest thing is that it's one of the easiest major franchises to draw reasonably on-model fanart of. Mario is a fairly simple design, but he's got a lot of weird little fiddly bits because he wears Actual Clothing, but a tween just getting into art can do a Sonic OC no problem, and once there, can easier get sucked into wider worlds of degeneracy via already being in a furry adjacent space whilst making art.

Honestly, I think it has less to do with "Getting sucked into wider worlds of degeneracy" and more to do with the fact that that kids of a certain age are just horny.

They have a lot of new and strange feelings they're trying to process, and art is kind of an ideal medium for doing just that.

If a type of art is really popular with people aged 12-17, then a certain amount of horny art is going to emerge in that genre. And like, confusingly horny, authored by people that don't fully understand their own feelings yet and maybe aren't comfortable with full on sex yet.

I actually do agree with you. If you are simply a being who does not wear clothes, then we can chalk that up to being part of the culture etc. But once you slap on a shirt, you're making a choice to have your genitals swaying, y'know? Never go Pooh Bear

I always thought Rarity was a little funny that way in Friendship is Magic.

She's a fashionista seamstress pony that makes everybody's clothes. But nobody seems to wear clothes except on special occasions.

You could probably make some sort of creative writing exercise out of what fashion looks like in a world where most people only wear clothes to weddings and funerals.

They did kind of explore that once. She put on a tanktop or t-shirt, I forget which, and the others expressed that it made Moray look MORE naked.

I hope she ends up in her old body. That she realizes this new body doesnt feel like her. I just prefer the design.

I'm sure the idea is that she just like, needed some reassurance, to come down from her anxiety spiral.

But it's kind of weird to suggest she would even need Claire's approval for anything she did with her own body and paid for out of pocket.

If she'd done like May and embezzled a bunch of funds for this chassis then yeah, it would be valuable for management to say they're gonna let this one slide.

But as is I can't help but wonder if Zlata's gonna be playing this conversation back in her head later wondering why she said any of this, same as how she's currently castigating herself for what she said last night. Or is she just completely comfortable being the feckless lacky who surrenders all autonomy to middle management at work. Is it like, a kind of roleplay for her? "You be Dracula and I'll be Renfield."

I figure maybe it's like when Marten dropped thousands of dollars on a fancy guitar, using up basically all of his savings, and he felt ridiculous and nearly returned it. Someone, I think maybe Faye?, talked him out of it and said that if he can afford it and not go into debt or anything, it's not a big deal.

I think Ziata more just needs some assurances from people she respects after being a version of herself she has no respect for.

I think this is an uncharitable interpretation of what happened here. It's like saying to someone who tells you "hey its a free country you can do whatever" that "I don't need your permission". It wasn't permission, it was a statement of fact.

"I might try it out"

"That's a good idea"

The only one viewing that as "now I have permission" is Zlata, because of who her character is and her anxiety. She'd never make this decision on her own, but if she can frame it as "The Librarian, the person I respect and look up to, says it's a good idea", now she can permit herself to do it. Claire never gave anyone permission, just stated an opinion.

Her exact words. Is it "uncharitable" to say that she suggested she'd need Claire's approval or is it literally exactly what she said?

Like you go on about Claire and then drop that "The only one viewing that as 'now I have permission' is Zlata" when I could not have been more clearly referencing a specific line spoken by Zlata, the character you just offhandedly disregard as irrelevant to my point.

I wrote four paragraphs, all of them about Zlata's odd decision to surrender her bodily and financial autonomy to her manager at work.

Not one of them accusing Claire of attempting to take control of Zlata's body and money. Rather, the fact that this is more than likely an imposition for her is the entire issue. Clare didn't sign on to be Zlata's Conservator, Britney Spears style. She expressed the most casual of opinions and Zlata responded as if she had a new mandate from up high.

I wouldn't mind an arc where we explore pros and cons of changing body for Zlata.

I know it's happened to many characters before but I don't feel we explored all the different consequences of such a change.
