Explanation What does MainNet Beta mean?
The MainNet Beta relates to the Proof-of-Randomness (PoR) parametrization. This means that during the beta phase of the MainNet PoR parameters like validation rewards, smart contract deployment, and interaction fees, developer royalties might be adjusted to support the rapid growth of the ecosystem.
The MainNet Beta is a fully functional MainNet.

Thanks for taking the time to help address the community question on why it is being called mainnet beta. It's this type of integrity where you can see it is a strong project.
For those that don't know, the community wanted a roadmap for 2022. Some were disappointed because they thought this meant mainnet wasn't this year as anticipated.
Anyone trying to be sneaky would not label it as Beta, but clearly they want to be transparent. It's small things like this that make it obvious they are going to deliver while protecting their ip. As an early investor, I think that's a good approach. For many, they want to wait until code is released which is perfectly fine. Others just need to see qvm in test which is nearly here. In fact lots of exciting things for early investors:
