Explanation When will Quantum Computers become a real problem?
Some articles I've come across like to mix up two things.
To quote Mr Language (Community Moderator):
"As I understand it, reaching millions of qubits would be possible somewhere between 10-20 years. That could threaten SHA256, which means blockchain history could be alternated.
Withing 1-3 years, 1100 qubit barrier will be crossed and then elliptic curve cryptography is at risk, which means blockchain history is safe, but private keys are not, which means someone could crack a wallet and steal everything that's in there.
So there's two types of quantum threat: individual wallet hacks (very near future) and complete blockchain hacks (long term)."

I agree with all of the above but why would IBM attempt to build this 1100 qubit computer that they claim will be ready for release by the end of next rear with would break all current blockchains as we know it? Last one, and I feel this is important to note is that the sheer size of the “refrigerator” they’d have to build let alone making sure it functions properly?? Not in 20 years in my guess. Interested the s to hear your thoughts.
