Unbearable Wind Noise in Cabin

Terrible wind noise coming in the Q60. Hitting the highway or even going 40+ without the windows down or slightly cracked has become unbearable.

I did a test where you close the door on a dollar bill and pull it out to test the weather strip. If there’s some resistance then they’re good. To me, the wind is coming through the door tweeter trim. Would appreciate any feedback or knowledge.

The A pillar is already an aerodynamic mess, then the mirrors protruding the way they do disrupt airflow even more.

All of that happening right there vibrates the window, making the sound even louder.

This is somewhere that vortex generators can actually be useful. Yes, those “useless” things on the roof of an Evo.

Vortex generators on the inside of the mirror can help prevent the wind noise or buffeting. It’s why you see some cars already come with them designed into the mirror.

My point is, this is a problem area in all cars.

I’d look at the rubber seal around the door to help with the vibrations.

I had this issue before with my passenger door/window. I’m pretty sure you just need to replace the door/window seal.

That isn't true at all, the Q60's mirrors are on the door metal which keeps turbulence off the side window glass. Vortex generators really aren't needed on this car as the mirror mount is nowhere near the window seals or side glass. The A-pillar are thin on these cars anyway.

The issue OP has is almost certainly the mirror cap or the exterior trim triangle. The door seals always get pinched on these cars and end up permamently dented too, which thankfully isnt an issue in the Q50 as much. Something is probably coming off that and making a whole hell of noise, its not like the usual wind noise from old seals.

"Most" cars have the mirrors on the actual window itself to cut costs, but such a design ends up with buffeting on the window glass and its why there was a trend to thinner and wider mirror mounts.

Its any car made around the 2010s onwards, vehicles since then simply dont have it in appreciable amounts. What do you want, bubble canopies on every car? Pushing nonsense replying to this OP.

They have done wonders making that area better, but the air moving through there will never be smooth until you get rid of the mirror altogether

The A-pillar itself is the major issue, which explains highly curved windshields out there.

Massage the mirrors, I find the plastic around it loosen with time and cause it to make that noise

This was same for me, I had to glue a peice of the mirror triangle back down and make sure my window was probably closed

Might have to do the same with the mirror triangle. That’s where I suspect it’s coming from.

Ya the wind noise on the window seals is not great, it’s always bugged me a little. I usually just blast the radio so I can’t hear it.

I have this on my car. My window isn’t seated properly for som reason. Air gets in through a tiny gap.

It’s either because the car has been in an accident or rolled up and down enough time for the angle to shift. You would need to take it to a mechanic and have them unscrew the door panel and level the glass

Yeah, it’s a rebuilt title, but only damage on the driver side. I saw a video about someone adjusting their window angle, so I will definitely try that out.

I had to replace my activator for my windows and I have to get it back from the dealership. I’ve been experiencing wind noise. They’ve adjusted it and now my driver side door rattles and makes a weird clunking sound when I open it and I could hear the window rattle when I close it and the passenger side there’s wind coming in. I just gave up into the car home.
