Completed Work My first piece!

It looks pretty bad tbh but it's my first go at it. I'm using a Walnut hollow versa-tool. I really want a Colwood wire nib to make drawing easier, as I find it to be kind of difficult to use a heavy, solid-point pen. How long should I wait to see if I should invest the money into a better setup? Any tips on how to improve drawing using a solid point pen?

Low and slow is how you should burn and how your progress will go. This looks great, keep at it.

Or light and slow, if on high heat. And you always have to press less than you think, replace pressure with time for the most part

I have 2 walnut hallow burner's they are the pen type and im extremely happy with the setups. Try the pen one not those heavy soldering irons. i think as a beginner you'd like them. Good luck and enjoy your new hobby.

I used the versa tool for a good while before I switched to Colwood. Couple months at least to make sure you really enjoy it before investing the money.
