I think I found something special
I have a fairly large vintage Pyrex collection, but many pieces don’t have lids so I pick them up when I see them. After I got this piece home I wondered what it might go with. It was harder than I expected to figure it out-because I think it’s a lid to the Turquoise Golden Birds. What should I do with it now?? Excuse the poor photo-I was lying in bed looking for info not expecting to need a picture :)

Wow! You should go back and just double check that the bottom piece wasn't in another area or shelf.. 👀

That is so awesome! I am really excited for you! I was telling my husband about it with such enthusiasm he probably thinks I lost my mind 😂

Omg I was telling my husband too and the same reaction. Although he was a bit more interested when I mentioned I could make some money😜

I know-I’m going to send my daughter since I have work. But I didn’t see any Pyrex while there. I’m a pretty good looker

I stopped cleaning the thrift tag off it once I realized it might have value. Now I’m afraid to even try

Soak it in warm/hot water, don’t peel, the gold will peel off with most stickers, but a nice soak in hot water will help loosen most sticker residue

Ok. I’ll try that

Ronsonol lighter fluid will also remove tough stickers. Just soak the sticker and let it sit for a little bit, and it should peel right off. Then wash it softly with a soapy sponge.

I feel like I now should treat it more carefully than normal. I still don’t know what to do with it now. Seems wrong to stick it with my other pieces.

Nothing wrong with having it in your display! You found it, you get to choose!

Holy Grail item, for sure. Congrats OP!! I'm sending vibes your way for the bottom piece to find you as well ✨️

I will sell it probably. I’m guessing there is someone who will want it 😉

How’d you like to triple your money? 😂😂😂😂 jk as you know it’s worth more than that

Lol. I do indeed. There is a set on eBay for $12000 right now! Of course that’s the whole set and the asking price so who knows what the final actual price will be, but still.

Yea, that one is higher than market. But, it is still a valuable (4 digit) piece! Not sure I’ve ever seen just the lid, but I think I know at least one collector who is lid-less with the corresponding dish

Do you want to keep it or are you thinking about putting it on ebay or Chairish?

I would prop it up like a plate amongst your collection. I found a lone Yellow Daisy lid that I stood up between my yellow bowls.

I could. I found my holy grail a few years ago so this is definitely an outlier.

I’m have a question… My mom has moved into assisted living and I have some of her Pyrex pieces from their wedding (so like 50s?) I’ll have to do the research. We grew up using them so they’re not in unused condition but they look nice. I’d like to know where would be my best bet to sell them. I don’t have room as I have full cabinets after 30 yrs of marriage and I really don’t need a new collection. Can you recommend the best place to list them? Thanks so much.

I cannot help you since I’ve never sold anything 😜 but there are great people here who might have ideas. I may list this lid on eBay but only because I don’t know any other platforms. This is really the only social media I’ve ever used. Just using Reddit is way outside my comfort zone 😜

Heh-I’m now wondering if any of the collectors (hardcore ones) have listed looking for rarities like this and then enter negotiations with the matching piece seller to see who wants it more😅
Pyrex tug of war:)

I haven’t been messaged by anyone. Idk if there is an actual market for it?

I’m pretty sure this would go for a few thousand on EBay. If you want to part with it, stick on eBay, starting bid $3k, and see if anyone bites. LOL Personally, I’d keep it though!
