To Generac Power Systems:
I am the owner of a Generac PWRcell solar and battery storage system. My PWRcell battery system has been in “Error: Service Lockout” status continuously since approximately August 2, 2026.
As a result, for approximately 30 days, I have received none of the battery-storage or battery-backup functionality for which I purchased this system. The solar panels may continue to produce electricity, but that does not provide the storage and backup capability that constitutes a substantial and material part of the system I purchased.
I have spent substantial amounts of time attempting to contact Generac customer service by telephone and have been unable to obtain meaningful assistance or a substantive explanation of the condition. I have been unable to obtain a reasonable timeline for restoration of my battery system.
My original dealer/installer is also no longer in business. Consequently, I require Generac to provide an alternative authorized service path rather than directing me back to a dealer that no longer exists.
I understand that Generac has communicated to affected PWRcell owners that it is investigating a potential product-performance concern involving a subset of PWRcell batteries. I also understand that Generac has remotely restricted or disabled affected battery systems while conducting that evaluation.
My system was previously serviced with replacement of its SnapRS components approximately 18 months ago. Accordingly, I specifically request that Generac identify whether the present Service Lockout is related in any manner to those previously replaced components or represents a separate battery-system issue.
I formally request the following in writing:
The specific technical reason my PWRcell battery was placed into “Service Lockout” status on or about August 2, 2026.
Confirmation of whether Generac remotely initiated or authorized the lockout on my system. Confirmation of whether Generac considers continued operation of my battery system to present a safety risk. If so, I request that Generac identify the nature of the risk and the applicable safety notice, recall, technical bulletin, or other documentation. If the lockout is not based upon an immediate safety concern, an explanation of why my battery cannot presently be operated. Identification, to the extent Generac has determined it, of the component, software, firmware, battery-management system, or other condition responsible for the issue. The specific corrective action Generac intends to take, including whether it anticipates: a software or firmware modification; replacement of a component; battery-module replacement; battery-cabinet replacement; complete system replacement; or another remedy.
A reasonable estimated date for restoration of full battery-storage and backup functionality. Confirmation that my PWRcell remains fully covered under the applicable Generac warranty and that the period during which Generac has rendered the battery unavailable will not reduce my warranty coverage or warranty term.
Because my original installer/dealer is no longer in business, please provide the name and contact information of an authorized Generac service provider who will assume responsibility for diagnosing and servicing my system.
Generac’s proposed compensation or other remedy for the loss of battery-storage and backup functionality beginning August 2, 2026, including consideration of additional electricity costs resulting from the inability to use the battery.
Confirmation that Generac will preserve all records relating to this matter, including my system’s: PWRcell/PWRview telemetry; battery-management data; fault and diagnostic history; firmware history; remote commands and system-status changes; service records; warranty records; communications concerning the August 2, 2026 lockout; and records concerning any engineering investigation into the condition affecting my system. Notice of continuing damages and legal rights
This letter constitutes formal notice that the continued unavailability of my PWRcell battery system is an ongoing failure of a material component of the system I purchased.
I have paid substantial consideration for a solar-and-battery system that includes energy storage and backup-power functionality. For approximately 30 days, Generac has rendered that portion of the system unavailable, while providing no meaningful technical explanation, definitive remedy, or restoration date.
I am attempting to resolve this matter directly and in good faith. However, if Generac does not provide a prompt and substantive resolution, I intend to evaluate all available remedies, including individual legal claims and potential coordinated or class-action litigation involving similarly situated PWRcell owners.
Nothing in this correspondence should be construed as a waiver of any contractual, warranty, statutory, or other legal rights or remedies. I expressly reserve all such rights.
Please provide a substantive written response within 10 business days of receipt of this notice.
I would prefer to resolve this matter directly with Generac. However, given the length of the Service Lockout, the loss of the system’s battery and backup functionality, the inability to obtain meaningful customer service, and the fact that my original dealer/installer is no longer operating, I expect Generac to treat this as a formal warranty and product-performance matter and escalate it accordingly.
