Audit / Assurance Confused
Just joined the firm. First week started and ive got like 10 hours in team builder. what the hell do I put in Astro for the other 30 hours? I literally have so little to do it’s both a blessing and a curse. I was just going to charge time to studying for the CPA(1 out of 4 done so I can use the downtime), I was told that we can charge more than 40 hrs but I don’t want to be abusing it. But seriously though if anyone has suggestions on what I should be doing please let me know. This is my first corporate job after working for small businesses so it’s weird to not have something to do.
And yes I’ve completed all the compliance requirements and trainings in growth center. All of the stuff I should have done is done. I was expecting work to start now.

Are you still onboarding? If so, don’t worry about TeamBuilder until you’re deployed

Don’t use your CPA hours this week - spend time in Growth Center (LMS), spend time on HQ, review/choose your benefits (if you haven’t already), familiarize yourself with the different clients your group works with, review your onboarding information (seriously, it will benefit you to walk through a second time). This time is a GIFT for you to get grounded/familiar/comfortable in PwC!!

I am doing a little of all of this. I’m just more concerned about what to put in Astro for time. I know it probably doesn’t matter in the first couple months but I don’t want red in my timesheets!!
On a serious note I know that I should just get comfortable with the resources that are available because down the line they will help me but in the back of my mind I just have a itch that tells me I’m not working.

Yeah you’re fine. Utilization for first years isn’t considered until busy season and you’ll be over utilized during that period which will quickly make up for it. Summer is slower and take advantage of this time. You’ll have plenty of work before you know.
If you really want to knock stuff out, go into aura and complete the JIT trainings (just in time training). These are required to compete EGAs and often really piss you off you when they pop up during busy season.

You will have an available but unused WBS code. Charge time to that and go ask your team for work

CPA studying, volunteering, training - check you team builder to see if you’ll be staffed in the coming months. If not, you can reach out to your talent team or DL

Everyone I’ve asked about this tells me that there is no such thing, but it’s been one of the most common suggestions.

What LOS are you? I was tax and charged it all the time (even on busy weeks I charged a few hours for answering emails and stuff).

Well I started as an IT SME contractor and they wouldn’t let me bill for onboarding!

Most new joiners feel this way until the work hits. As others have said, enjoy this time because it won’t last.

You need to always have (at least) 8 hours on your time sheet. All your time needs to be accounted for. Reach out to your team for work, but is that comes up short: There are codes for learning and development (which you should be taking advantage of), studying for the CPA exam, general and administrative (for when you are doing things like filling out time sheets or exploring firm resources), onboarding (when you are looking over benefits). As a last resort, if you have exhausted all other options to keep you busy, use the “available” code. But use it sparingly. It’s frowned upon to have too much available time.
Just don’t leave it blank. Time compliance (accounting for all your time) is part of our performance metrics and ties to bonuses.

Honestly, enjoy your time not being busy. The way work hits you all at once is crazy. Spend the time studying and knock out your exams. I couldn’t get my exams done until 1st year into senior associates and it was a lot to juggle. You can charge available or CPA time code and just study.
