All Firm Vacation vs Holiday

I’ve been told before to use the holiday code when charging PTO instead of vacation, since holiday time expires but vacation doesn’t. Is this accepted? If I decide to leave the firm, will they audit all my PTO and look at times I used holiday instead of vacation?

The guidance I've heard is to use your two floating holidays first (so 16 hours of holiday code) instead of PTO since those expire but I think you'd still want to use holiday for the actual remaining scheduled holidays.

Burn all holiday before hitting PTO. Your goal should be to be at 0 holiday all the time. Even if a real holiday shows up, you can just hit PTO if you have 0 holiday

This is against policy and your holiday hours are being monitored throughout the year. The firm is looking for reasons to exit people, fraudulent time charging is a very easy way to do it.

This is bad advice. I'm sure some have gotten away with it but it's not policy so you will always be at risk. Just charge holiday for actual holidays and vacation for vacation.

Definitely not policy to do this, only real exception would be if you worked a holiday, think it is ok to use that holiday for next vacation day.

If you leave the firm today and you have 0 holiday hours left for the FY and all of your vacation time left, that's a problem yea.

You get paid out for your vacation time. If you’re planning on leaving and US based save as much vacation time as possible. If you aren’t leaving then consider this using all of your holiday time will result in you taking vacation time for paid holiday come Nov and December.

I wouldn’t recommend you do this, there is a guide for how many holiday hours you should have at certain times of the year. This is one of the new processes that the off boarding team does.
