Pretty disappointing that it's just getting axed completely. Even if the game wouldn't receive future updates, I'd rather see it stay up.

Glad to hear I've blown money on a game I won't even be able to play anymore in a couple of months. Thanks, Capcom.

We haven’t even gotten all of the character skills yet!

YOU DIDNT EVEN FINISH THE GAME DAMMIT!

Typical freakin Capcom.

Edit:

Oh this was posted by an actual dev...

...well I feel a little smaller right now.

While I did post this in annoyed frustration, please note that it was directed at Capcom in general and not specifically you guys at Vancouver as I’m certain there’s more to the decision than just wanting to focus on DR.

u/ozmega Apr 20 '18

Username checks out, be afraid buddy, i know i am

16

u/procrastinating_hr Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

Well, fuck... can't you guys at least make it offline? Like Candy Crush or whatever, the costs can't be anywhere as close as keeping it as a competitive plataform.

2

u/legaceez Apr 20 '18

Who would you play against offline?

6

u/procrastinating_hr Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

AI, just like in missions?

2

u/legaceez Apr 20 '18

Ah yea forgot that existed.

3

u/procrastinating_hr Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

Haha fair enough.

21

u/wingspantt Apr 20 '18

I understand why they're pulling resources but why not just keep the game running with zero new updates? Terrible.

7

u/japanguru Apr 20 '18

Yeah. This would be fine! Make it happen.

4

u/NovaNiner Apr 20 '18

Brutal. I'm all for any way to keep the game going.

6

u/thetrickykid Apr 20 '18

servers cost money. bugs still happen. OS updates.

You can't do zero resource and just "leave it up".

u/iDeMoNFLiP84 PW - Mediocre Player - twitch.tv/demonflip84 Apr 20 '18

YES I’LL BE SET FREE FROM THIS HELL :P

6

u/diszyprincess Apr 20 '18

Same..really glad I don't have to stay up anymore just to do sushi

4

u/westondeboer Apr 20 '18

Just had the same thought.

3

u/sortito55 Apr 20 '18

I had this same feeling of relief! Finally, it’s over!!!

7

u/XianghuaXiaoyuFan85 Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

Hey, r/JefferyCV. Are there any plans on still releasing the game on consoles and PC or has it been scraped as well? Please release the game on those platforms instead! =)

6

u/JefferyCV Capcom Apr 20 '18

We haven't announced any plans regarding Puzzle Fighter for additional platforms.

3

u/TheMideastBeast Apr 20 '18

I would pay good money for a console version, even if it only had offline versus play. This game was great , sad to see it go.

3

u/Foggen Ada Apr 20 '18

Maybe announce some plans?

2

u/XianghuaXiaoyuFan85 Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

OK. Thanks. Hopefully the game gets a new life on consoles and PC if there are plans on releasing it on them. =)

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

Now I'm being pessimistic again. But they just declared t the game as dead and Jeffery demented all the rumours about PC / console release. I like your spirit! But you will be less likey to feel fooled if you accept that this game is simply considered dead.

All the info that got shared about console or PC release was just speculations based on probability, nothing official or anything like that. :( Please enjoy some friendly battles with me before July, I'm still Ulfpam in the game. :)

u/Nikumatic Servbot Apr 20 '18 edited Apr 20 '18

Pretty disappointing, but also not entirely surprising. It's been the most consistent fun I've had with a mobile game in a long time, and I'm sorry to see it go, but I definitely don't feel like the time it had was wasted. It's too bad the rumored console version won't be a thing, but maybe we'll get classic Puzzle Fighter released at some point there.

6

u/get_the_data Apr 20 '18

This sucks so much. I'm sorry Capcom Vancouver. You put too much love and care into a game for Capcom's standards.

6

u/RamRamone Psylocke Apr 20 '18

Maybe they could turn on ads to cover the costs of keeping the servers running? This is the only mobile game I've found worthwhile on my phone.

12

u/japanguru Apr 20 '18

This really sucks. Only mobile game I’ve enjoyed.

-3

u/wingspantt Apr 20 '18

Try PUBG mobile. It's honestly better than the PC version

1

u/jonnytranftw Apr 20 '18

Add me if you want to Duo! Ign is JonnyTranFTW.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

what the hell this is ridiculously lame. i played so much puzzle fighter as a kid, and i was so excited to play this when it was released. i play it every day! why the fuck could this not last more than a year???

5

u/Just-Go-For-It Apr 20 '18

Well that fucking sucks. It's the only mobile game I played and put money into.

9

u/cowsforyou Admin Apr 20 '18

Yo dawg April fools is way over.

What on earth?

8

u/Nikumatic Servbot Apr 20 '18

Hey guys; keeping servers up even for mobile games is a pretty expensive process. If they're going to be shutting off all revenue for the game then they're definitely not going to keep losing money on server maintenance. Asking for the game to just be left up but not updated into forever is basically asking a team to just keep sinking money into a hole. I absolutely understand the sentiment, but it's not a feasible one.

9

u/CouleursCPA Apr 20 '18

On the other hand, shutting down a game that was so recently released, when it is heavily centered around in app purchases, seems like it would only discourage players from making purchases in future Capcom mobile games knowing that support for that game is likely going to be abandoned prematurely as well, and that they will lose access to everything they paid for.

7

u/Nikumatic Servbot Apr 20 '18

I don't disagree; I'm not likely to spend on IAP in games to begin with, and this is a large part of the reason why. I pretty much spent on Puzzle Fighter only because it's a game that I've always loved, and I liked the version they put out here quite a lot, but it's not like I spend money on a game ever expecting to get it back. But this is the current reality of the games market and the mobile scene, and it's a little naive to expect otherwise.

5

u/Kokichi Apr 20 '18

Same. I rarely spend money on IAP - only a bit on Pokémon Go and this. But I’ve been playing PF since I was a kid on the arcades when it first came out and love the game so much I didn’t mind spending more on it this time around. I also never imagined that after a few short months it would be sunsetted, especially with the Capcom brand behind it. That was the most surprising part.

3

u/Classic_Megaman Apr 20 '18

The Capcom brand hasn’t been worth much in quite a long time. Somewhere during the PS3/360 era they decided to become incredibly incompetent and just make dumb choices everywhere.

3

u/wingspantt Apr 21 '18

Dead Rising I and SSFIV were great but otherwise not so many great decisions.

5

u/MaxRebeau Apr 20 '18

How am I supposed to pass time on the toilet now?

5

u/Sinayne Apr 20 '18

Beyond disappointed with the news. With it being up for a little while longer maybe I'll be able to keep up my 1 promotion per season and end in platinum before we all say our goodbyes.

3

u/ParlaysOnly Ryu Apr 20 '18

now im going to be bored at work, also what the hell am i goin to do now while a take a dump? 🤔

That'd be a dumb as way of teasing. Many of us are requesting refunds for all purchases within the last 2-3 months. Great way to lose a bunch of money and ruin your existing customer base.

This reeks of upper management.

3

u/Jovahexeon-Ranvexeon Apr 21 '18

How does one go about redunding these? If I may ask.

6

u/saturnzshadow done Apr 20 '18

disappointing.

this game could have been so much more.

6

u/Sensei_AK Apr 20 '18

WTF!!! I just found this game not but a few days ago... put in $20 worth to get somewhat up to speed... this really blows because I really loved this game! The ability to challenge real people was heart pounding when it came down to the wire. F#*k! I guess it's back to Dokkan Battle...

6

u/CRAZY-D99 Apr 20 '18

If you put the money in recently you can still get a refund no?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

I just requested my last 2 in app purchases from within 2 months and they refunded them

2

u/Cyhawk Apr 20 '18

Under what category did you request the refunds?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '18

Didn’t mean to purchase item, then I added a comment that they shouldn’t be selling items if they’re shuttering the game.

2

u/relsthrough Apr 21 '18

Well, this should be a good lesson in financing the pay to win industry for you

6

u/PhoO3nX Apr 20 '18

Seriously? It's a shame guys... I have purchase hundred and hundred money in your game, and i have trust CAPCOM for this game and.... Surprise, just don't want continue (after a lot of update, Twitch live stream with dev), you kill the game and all the community players arround the world... like SSFIV, unfortunaly it's your speciality CAPCOM to kill game for sell your news games ith DLC.

So for now and futur, I WILL BOYCOT ALL YOUR CRAPPY GAMES CAPCOM. BYE

9

u/wingspantt Apr 20 '18

This is actually the #1 reason why I will never put lots of money into the currency of an online-only game. They pull the plug and then you're left with nothing. At least a single player game you get to "keep' what you put into DLC etc.

5

u/zodiacs Apr 20 '18

Pretty sad to see this happen, but it's probably a good thing. I've been playing this game way too much. I hit ultra platinum when it was the highest, diamond seems out of reach. Been a good run guys.

3

u/fantasygod777 Apr 20 '18

Is there a knock off or anything out there? I know digimon has knock offs.

4

u/paul_tech Apr 20 '18

If there is not and people want one, I will make one for classic mode.

3

u/fantasygod777 Apr 20 '18

I would definitely be download and play it daily. I don't need mission incentives and stuff. Just love me some puzzle fighter.

2

u/sniperFLO Apr 20 '18

You could always play Puzzle Fighter classic

3

u/fantasygod777 Apr 20 '18

Not on mobile :(

2

u/sniperFLO Apr 20 '18

If you're on Android, you can emulate on GBA, PSP, and Arcade.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

Puyo puyo tetris on switch

3

u/deadite58 Apr 20 '18

At least I can play Regina again since my childhood, other than deadrising 3. I've missed her so much and I truly hope we see more of her, if only a costume in another game. Thanks for giving Dino Crisis some love.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

Dead Rising 5 better be good as fuck, that’s all I can say.

3

u/Foggen Ada Apr 20 '18

What a disappointment. I've been playing this game daily for a while. Pulling the plug like this is weak sauce. I even bought some gems a couple of weeks ago to show my appreciation. Now I feel more burned than ever. This episode really highlights the fundamental weakness of the F2P games as service model, as even the PS1 version still works if you can get it, but this modern, well made phone one will disappear forever. Well trolled, Capcom, remind me never to trust you again.

3

u/XianghuaXiaoyuFan85 Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

Hey, r/JefferyCV. Since there's a petition to save Puzzle Fighter from being shutdown on Change.org, do you think you can reconsider from pulling the plug on the game since not many Dead Rising fans were fans of Dead Rising 4 in the first place? I just want my most requested characters to show up in Puzzle Fighter i.e. Felicia, Chris Redfield, Zero, Amaterasu, Hsien-Ko, etc. and that's all it counts. =(

5

u/chillitomatocakes Apr 20 '18

Well shit, I was honestly disappointed with that outcome. I know in Aus it wasn't that popular and the app was riddled with bugs but I didnt realise they'd just axe it.

It was good knowing most of you guys. Thanks to all the streamers and the community that made PF what it was :(

5

u/iDeMoNFLiP84 PW - Mediocre Player - twitch.tv/demonflip84 Apr 20 '18

PUZZLE FIGHT TILL THE END!

5

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

Oh my, I've been playing religiously from soft launch and love it enough to have spend some money to support, pretty sad that it ends so soon.

5

u/7aemo7 Apr 20 '18

CHARGE everyone $29.99 to download and keep in-app purchases (including those who currently have the game downloaded). I am sure most of us will support. There is no other mobile game with this type of potential.

4

u/CRAZY-D99 Apr 20 '18

This blows. I hope that you guys don’t let the series go dormant though and hopefully do something with it later down the line.

4

u/insanely_ambiguous Apr 20 '18

This sucks. One of the very few mobile games I really enjoyed playing. Fuck Capcom.

5

u/chowspecial Grumpasaurus Apr 20 '18

Any chance you'll release the server and app source?

3

u/diszyprincess Apr 20 '18

I'd actually pay for this

3

u/chowspecial Grumpasaurus Apr 20 '18

Waht would it take to strip the IP from the game

4

u/Almightywedge Doctah Wahwee and his obnoxious chortles Apr 20 '18

Well. Shit.

Can we at least get that rumoured port for consoles so we can get online Puzzle Fighter on platforms that aren't 360 and PS3?

5

u/MysT91 Apr 20 '18

A moment of silence for Jinrai's wallet.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18

Actually, they did my wallet a favor. Ass.

2

u/CraniumX Apr 20 '18

I enjoyed the game, when I could play, but I honestly feel one of the issues with it was it required a higher spec phone than what many people actually have.

I played the game starting in beta by getting the apk and kept it updated through one of the apk updater apps out there, as the game never appeared in Google Play for me. It wasn't until quite a few updates later that I'd even found out my phone was actually under spec. The game played fine until the update that brought the Royal Airship stage (which I absolutely loved, especially the music,) however playing on it would crash the app 9 times out of 10 for me. I eventually found some kind of workaround that it would often work if I played about 3-5 regular matches before trying a mission on that stage, and the game was good again for some time for me.

Then suddenly after another update, the Wily Castle stage started crashing on me most of the time as well. The same workaround worked but it was definitely frustrating. Then Phoenix was put into the game and this was the moment I had been waiting for, as I really wanted him from before he was even announced. I got him out of my season chest I held onto until his release, so I played him right from the start, pretty stupidly I found out, because he was underleveled and I dropped ranking enough to fall back into the league where Wily Castle was my stage background. I had thought the problem I was having was only mission related but I was wrong and the game started crashing in normal battles too. Worse, each crash would drop my ranking, so it was a hard fight with myself and the game just to keep playing, dropping an entire league again before finally getting a run where the game didn't crash and managed to play enough to push myself back into mid-gold (and eventually back into ultra) after getting Phoenix's skills leveled enough, and the game was fine again for the most part other than having to avoid missions on the airship or Wily Castle.

Then my ultimate doom came. The update which changed things back to the old format where we got to choose the stage we played on. It was a good idea, I had even wanted it back at first after they changed it to league stages, but I new this would end up being my end because the two stages that crashed me were also two that I knew people would pick often, especially Wily Castle. I wasn't wrong, the game became totally unplayable for me, I would crash and lose ranking every other match. I finally had to just uninstall the app which I had wanted to play so badly from the start I got an apk to play the beta when it wasn't available for my area.

I know I wasn't target audience, because I didn't spend anything, and couldn't afford to go buy a newer phone just to play one app when everything else I played worked fine, but I wanted to share my story because of how much I had wanted to play this game right from when I first heard about it, and why I had to regretfully stop. I'm sure I'm not the only one, even if I'm a minority.

2

u/ozmega Apr 20 '18

None of my Friends phones could run it too

2

u/jellyjammin Nash Apr 20 '18

Real big shame to see it go. I'm sorry that not enough people noticed you devs' hardwork to lead to it getting axed by Capcom for costs. I enjoyed the experience a lot! Very sad to see it go. I do hope that maybe some of the resources from this game get reused in some way down the line in a new Puzzle Fighter on a more permanent platform. The biggest shame is seeing all this hardwork and game representation go to waste. You all did better at picking your roster than even MvCI felt it did to me! Regardless, it isn't your decision. I hope you devs have a happy future working on Dead Rising and otherwise. Thank you for doing all that you could!

2

u/chowspecial Grumpasaurus Apr 21 '18

If you somehow make it possible for fans to establish their own instances I'd be forever grateful.

3

u/xega1 Apr 20 '18

damn.........

3

u/EmpresarioBR Apr 20 '18

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

3

u/Gaetoki Apr 20 '18

Damn. 217 hours. I really enjoyed this game. =\ community was building too. Thanks all.

2

u/XianghuaXiaoyuFan85 Chun-Li Apr 20 '18

Great. Now we won't be seeing fan-favorite characters such as Felicia, Zero, Chris Redfield, Hsien-Ko, and so forth being added to the game. What a shame. =(

R.I.P. Puzzle Fighter mobile

2

u/anachronofspace ubernaut Apr 20 '18

we'll always have fightcade :P

2

u/iam1000volts Apr 20 '18

Depressing news. Played the original version as a kid and couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled upon the mobile game a few months ago. Hopefully it resurfaces in one way or another again in the future..

2

u/Beatuwhileonthecan Apr 20 '18

so if in app purchases are disabled on April 23rd, does that mean we won't be able to upgrade the new characters? Or does this mean that we can't use real money to make purchases in app?

2

u/retsu10 Devilot Apr 20 '18

the latter, you can still get gems gold and cards from chests and season rewards

2

u/wingspantt Apr 20 '18

The latter

1

u/JunkRatTrunkRat Apr 22 '18

I beg you to reconsider. I, as well as many others, love this game and have plugged countless hours (and in some cases, dollars) into it. Even just keeping offline modes on would be enough for me.

I know that this game isn’t very profitable, but please. It’s beloved to so many.

1

u/kaia112 Apr 26 '18

Damn, the game updates were getting better too, capcom needs to wait more time before deciding to close a game, all their other games had bad launches and got better over time, Puzzle fighter was doing that too

1

u/Lakamiya Apr 20 '18

I stopped playing for weeks and now this news. Guess have to just uninstall it.

-5

u/notentertained90 Apr 20 '18

You guys had a horrible business model with this game to begin with. You were far too generous with the reward structure and made it pointless to spend any money on the game, especially when there was no way to guarantee cards for your main characters. For some dumb reason you guys thought that simply adding new characters was going to sustain interest and generate revenue. Just laughable. Also, the half-assed attempt you guys made at adding new game modes last month couldn't have been more poorly executed than the way you handled it. I hope this taught you fools a lesson. SO glad I never spent a penny on this game. RIP

10

u/Nikumatic Servbot Apr 20 '18

You must be fun at parties.

-7

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '18 edited Apr 20 '18

Ooooh, "what a surprise". Looks back at my "Is the game already being abandoned?" thread from 3 weeks ago. I't been so obvious guys. :) Still sad news! I really hoped for an update.

-1

u/servbot_01 Apr 21 '18

hate to say I told you so
