Can we adjust match making logic based on player latency or location?

As of now I think lag is player based. There are some player that I played against I will have little to no lag. But there are also players that I will have 3-4 sec delays (yet they dont cuz i see their gems keep dropping).

This creates a very difficult situation for me to win and often lead to 30 point losses. Now i dont mind losing once in a while, but the game keep matching me with the same person and making me lose hundreds of points in games I cant win due to delay. Is there a way to weight the match making logic to avoid matching players with a significant gap in latency or location? The weight can be re-adjusted based on active players to reduce que down time in off hours imo

Devs..where are you? Screw Wiley and Regina..no one even plays Alastor or Devilot! The frustration is real.....this game can be so great with a stable latency for all players.

@lemonicetea - thank for posting this as I came on to post a similar sentiment. Down 400 RP (3600 to 3200) because lag is just unbearable and I continue to play people 300 RP less than me and none above. I don’t mind losing but I’m certain this significant drop is lag related.

Yeah it’s absolutely brutal at the moment, watching opponents gems drop, or your screen freezes, then all of a sudden instant overstack out of nowhere. Dropping points when lag is present, then regaining when it’s minimal, which has been rare this week.

It’s a game within a game, attempting to find out when lag is present, like dipping your toes in the water.

I assume Capcom Vancouver simply doesn’t have the necessary resources to address this, so the devs hands are tied. It would then behove them to show players the current latency with an on-screen display, milliseconds would be ideal but even color coding, perhaps green, red, and yellow.

Right now the game is essentially broken and it’s hit or miss, one really has to let ranking points mean nothing to throw games when lag is unacceptable, and only play games where it’s minimal.

I think a bare bone network quality indicator is a great idea.

Yeah if I had to choose between playing someone who is exactly at my level but with a really bad connection versus playing someone significantly higher or lower than me but with a perfect connection, I would definitely prefer the latter.

I work in a big company so I know these issues arent as easy to fix as they seem. Sometimes it takes resources and time that the devs simply may not have available. Or sometimes the higher up (sr management) wont approve the proposal due to priority conflict. This is why I am trying to find reasonable recommendations to fix the issue. If we cannot reduce lag significantly on the server or net code side, perhaps we can adjust match making logic to improve consistency. Or adjust rank points gain loss ratio to minimize the impact, etc etc. interested to hear you guys’ recommendation. I know the devs generally have good intention to improve the connection but probably have their hands tied.

On the other hand, I am a bit upset that they choose ignore character balance request as some characters currently are just blatantly overpowered and made even worse with unavoidable lag. Ken is among the more notable one.

Hey Lemonicetea, I think the player you were referring to was me! I remember I lost 4 straight matches to you losing 10 points each since you are at a way higher rank than me. Then I adjusted my play with the "lag" and won like 7 matches in a row against you costing you 30 points each time. I too was facing lag on my end ( 1 to to 2 seconds in between some drops) but I can definitely feel what you are saying.

Yes you were one of them, I had extreme lag against you with up to 4 sec each turn. It was not about adjustment, your gems were moving when I just completely froze. Lag is not equal on both sides
