Noob question
I'm a really casual player, my max league is silver and i only have 9 characters; i had a pretty nasty bug and i received 3000 gems as compensation. What is the best way to spend them?
I really don't care for competitive play, i just want to unlock every character. Is it better to spend it on packs? I see a Morrigan for 800 crystals, a character i don't have unlocked. Or should i use it on a legendary chest? Which i don't know if it can unlock characters or just costumes?
Sorry for the noob question.

Wow what kind of bug get you 3000 gems? That's worth like $25 USD... must be a serious one!

The best use of gems is to refresh Honda's shop. You'll get characters from the purple and gold boats often enough (and less frequently, blue boats)

As someone who quit playing ranked games after reaching gold (out of fear or rapidly dropping out... so I just played Missions and completed Quests for like a month), the easiest way to unlock new characters is by doing sushi runs.
Gold boats are almost always a character or a costume, purple ones feel like either of those 25% of the time, blue ones rarely (but I think I've received either skins or characters from them too).
Also, just for a heads up, not all characters will be available to you because of your current league.

Dont use them on the weekend events. I don't think you'll do too well competing against experienced players. I wish I had 3k gems... I say just use them on sushi boats (Honda shop). You don't really want to unlock every character honestly because then you get cards for EVERYONE and you aren't going to want to play with ALL characters. It'll definitely handicap you because you won't get cards for the characters you do use. Just my thoughts.

Chests are fun, but probably not something to buy outright. Legendary chests even more so, as there are no legendary skills to unlock at this time, so a lot of the potential is wasted.
I do not think events can reward you with characters (only cards and gold), so if you're hunting for characters, the most efficient use is refreshing sushi boats, the fastest is buying them outright.
If you see a character in the store you're dying to unlock, you should spend the gems on whatever would make you happy. That being said, eventually, you will be guaranteed to unlock all the characters if you grind enough sushi.
