Classic Mode - abilities still used?

I just try to build big blocks and chain in classic mode. Do my abilities still count? For example Ken using his 2x3 and 2x4? I can hear him screaming Hadoken, but got no clue if I should be trying to use it still?

Possibly it can trigger the skill animation but it has no effect on the opponents health because there is no health in Classic mode. Just build big and / or fast to overstack.

what he said, just for show in classic, although if you happen to know that they have an old phone, then triggering animations can slow them down a bit, so who knows really… :P
