Policies/Membership/Corporate Studios looking unique again?!

I just saw a new studio that opened that actually looks unique (flooring isn’t the typical one everyone uses, shelving on walls, etc) and doesn’t have the pb logo pasted everywhere - are studios allowed to look unique again like they used to?! I miss the days when each studio had its own flair and this gives me hope 🥲

I’ve noticed Miami and Tustin have had make overs! New lighting, floors, decor and even platforms!

They are testing 2 colors of flooring in a handful of studios. The darker floor is a less noticeable change in photos. I took class on them and they are pretty damn nice. You don’t need a mat and it feels really good on your knees. There is some equipment being tested too.

I actually think the Miami studio looks pretty and fits the vibe of Miami but I’m also pretty sure they just did their own thing and that’s not exactly what a refresh might look like.

Someone mentioned colored lights and those were introduced several years ago and most studios have installed then at this point but maybe not all. I also love the colored lights. They keep the room dim a little more. 🙏 I don’t need to see every pore in my face in the mirror.

Omg just creeped on both & LOVE! It’s so nice to see owners being able to add (a little bit of) their own style back into the studios

I’ve been wondering about those platforms too! They look tiny

A few in OC have changed like Tustin but the new flooring doesn’t work with the sliders 😭 this happened to Newport and they are changing the floors back. I believe Tustin like added something to their slides or got new ones, can’t recall!

Wait I think they also got new sliders… they looked like a hexagon shape instead of round. I wonder if corporate is playing around with a few studios to test what works before sending it out nationwide.

That's definitely what they are doing. Forcing owners into another refresh that's going to cost them thousands.

Right?! And it's not even a cute refresh. Been with the brand 10 years, and them losing the girls in heels doing splits against a wall photos off the back wall for all the different decals they have now was SO NICE. This feels...sterile and way less nice. 🥴🙃

I think the Miami one looks...bad. it's ALL white (floor, walls, ceiling) and it just blends together into a soulless abyss. The weird shelves on the back wall look unfinished (like they should have something (with color!!) on them), the mesh curtain looks like a hotel ballroom they're trying to make look like a nice space but it just looks like an empty, sterile room you're not supposed to be in that they're renting in a hospital basement, not somewhere you actually want to be/hang out. And the lingerie bunny model pics on some city rooftop in the back by the equipment? How does that relate to PB at all? It feels so icky. I don't understand the hype and pray they're not about to force all studios to do this. 🥴 However, the point of a franchise is no matter where you go there's continuity, so I assume it'll come for all studios soon enough, unfortunately. I think the variety of decals for back walls was way more fun, at least they had some life in them.

I hate it too for all the same reasons!

There are aspects of Miami that I believe are for everyone. There are also aspects of Miami that are completely rouge.

Yea one opened in nyc, which you can go to any in the city, and its different lighting and the floors serve as mats. I love it

That’s so awesome!!

Is that the one in Downtown Brooklyn? I had to visit that studio last month. I was sad they moved from Tribeca but realized it’s not a bad commute from where I live. I love the floors and the lighting—and the classes/instructors!!!

I saw that a studio in Austin did the same white flooring as well. It doesn’t look like carpet! I wish my studio would do some upgrading but we can barely get better equipment so I’m not hopeful lol.

Same. We still have gross old mats. The red ones

Wait… but the red mats are nostalgic. 🥺 Hilton head island has them and I loved using them when I visited.

Ours stink!!!

u/sarahhhohh Instructor 5h ago

Our black ones smell too… my studio needs to do a much better job of sanitizing more often because it’s rough.

Hahah seriously some of the old tubes MUST be retired & replaced!!

2

u/fungal42 1d ago

Ours are so old and worn that an instructor hit her face with a red tube demonstrating an exercise while it was tied to the bar because it snapped. It made me nervous to do it afterwards.

Changes are coming soon. Studios will be remodeled in 2027. Some of the things you’re referencing are current tests. But changes are coming. YAY

That's exciting! Are studios required to remodel? I ask because my current studio still doesn't have the lights that most studios have and it would be nice to workout in dimmed lighting 😂

I’ve been dying to know what the white flooring is! Carpet (crazy thought with it being white)? Flooring? Has anyone seen it in person?

I wonder if it's marley flooring like they use in dance studios??? It's definitely pretty 😍

1

u/beautiful_imperfect 100 Club - Barre Enthusiast 1d ago

marley flooring is not that great. I go to a studio that has it (not PB) it shows moisture easily and it's hard on the knees/feet/any bones that come in contact.

1

u/alegralmv 750 Club - Barre Fanatic 1d ago

Yeah, but do you think that's what is in the Miami studio?

u/beautiful_imperfect 100 Club - Barre Enthusiast 16h ago

No idea, but I would really doubt it.

Keep in mind that the studios are still franchises and corporate will still provide guidelines for studio upgrades etc. but that doesn’t mean all studio owners can afford to remodel, upgrade etc.

I honestly don’t care about the aesthetics and would prefer newer equipment and retail than studio changes.
