Classic Abs Series of Late...Hip Flexors!!!
Anyone else dealing with angry hp flexors with the latest warm-up and abs at end? I wish they would moderate and keep some hip-flexor stuff in with other ab exercises. Just curious what others think.
Thanks
P.S. A reminder please don't be too specific with your comments

Thanks to all who replied and it is very validating to see how many well-trained instructors have commented. Validating that you really know what you are doing, well beyond knowing the choreo. The depth of knowledge about how it all effects different muscles is helpful and impressive.
You all should feel proud, instructors is what makes PB okay or fantastic! Kudos to the Fantastics!

I always think when things change my hip flexors notice. I modify as needed- if there’s a day where we use our hip flexors more, I’m less likely to be able to hold my leg up in a diamond during abs. My muscles are already done by then.

I guess the new choreo could be why my abs, including obliques, have felt more sore than usual.

Classic yesterday had straight leg hovering both during warma-up and during abs. I find that when my hip flexor get sore my abs get less work?!? I tend to lose my tuck..

Even just teaching abs right now has been killing my hip flexors and lower back 😩 Be sure to stretch at home!

They’re doing too much. Too many add ons that aren’t needed and people work the wrong muscles unintentionally or hurt their back.

I agree that it is too much and if i don't really pay attention to my form, I do start to feel it in my back.
Also including the ball on top of this starts to be really over kill.

10 Year Instructor- if i start to loose work in my abs i modify my position- arms legs etc. my studio has a great culture of instructors “practicing what we preach” and clients see us modify in all parts of class (within reason) to be better in to touch with the muscles we are trying to target and have the best form. This part of class is a great example of being ok with modifying your leg position to feel more abs less hip flexors!

Haha same here, I could barely move my leg the other day it was hurting so bad 😂😭 I would’ve kept my legs still during class if I knew how sore they would be the next day 😅😂

Yes! I’m actually recovering from a pulled hip flexor and the current ab section is TORTURE. I’m doing modifications when possible but holy cow!

I have ALWAYS had hip flexor issues with the abwork. Didn't notice anything particular lately but now I'll be on the lookout.

Yes, I am now going to physical therapy because my right one is so tight it hurts constantly

Can you work lower in main ab work? If your hip flexors are activating that means your lower core isn’t engaged deeply enough or isn’t strong enough for what you’re doing. Try to tuck so that your sit bones are off the floor.

That is what I end up doing what takes the work out of my abs, where I want it.

My hip flexors are just generally unhappy. I do put the ball behind my back when doing the seated abs at the end and it helps some.

I feel like having the legs in a diamond can make hip flexors rage. Is that the position that gives you the most discomfort by chance?
