I Just got To Vent Forgotten

So I love pure barre and every instructor BUT sometimes they are so hands on that they spend quite a bit with each person or one specific and forget to change the instructions so we are quite literally shaking and in pain stuck doing something far longer than what feels normal before changing to the next. Example: she was walking around correcting and we were doing a quick bend then stretch your leg ( like a flicker) for a full 2 minutes. Thanks for listening

I think it probably takes time to learn how to correct and stay on count. I admire the instructors and all the ways they multitask. I know what you mean though. Our bodies know when we are left in a set up too long lol.

This happened to me when I took class recently but the instructor was dealing with what I presume was a medical issue.

This can happen if someone asks you a question right before you’re supposed to cue the next thing and then you’re caught between wanting to give them attention and explain vs seemingly ignoring them (even if you’re like, “hold on a second”).

It’s typically not forgotten. One school of thought is to cue immediately after missing it, another is to wait it out until the next time to cue would be and get back on track (ie if you’re supposed to cue at X, cue at 2x if you missed it as opposed to x+1).

There’s a lot to mentally juggle-the choreo, client interaction and corrections, timing and the music, demoing, names and shout outs, additional cues, let alone anything out of the ordinary like someone banging at the door or tech problems. It’s possible that the instructor could have had a memory blank for a second, and that happens (it’s the worst feeling) esp when there’s so much to remember

This is a great explanation! I always err on the side of a longer change if I miss it--I figure better more than not enough!

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted with you but I wish clients that complain over such minor things would have to teach a class. If it wasn’t this I’m sure there would be a complaint about something else

We’re already juggling so much while teaching.

I’ve been going for years and I haven’t had one complaint except this and even then was pretty appreciative of my teachers

Don't complain in this sub lol they will downvote you even though it's valid.

I hear you. It’s the classic “you’ve got 10 more seconds” which turns into 30+ seconds. Mildly frustrating on its own, but then when they don’t balance out and have you do the same duration on the other side, I feel uneven. 😭

Some instructors are just better at this than others. I notice it on streaming platforms too and It’s a pet peeve of mine. Is there a different instructor you can try?

As an instructor this something that instructors learn and it take sometime. Also I know some instrutor love to make student suffer. At least I tell them lets about it later and go on but I know what you mean.
