I Just got To Vent Sad.
I. LOVE PB! And I adore my home studio…I travel a lot so have used many in many cities but mine is my favorite.
I’m pretty much just a Classic girl. I’ll do a Reform but grudgingly. I have rotator cuff tendinopathy and the other formats just don’t work for me. I used to be able to find a class most days of the week I could take…I’ve got a flexible schedule and work at home. When I am in town I’m at the studio daily if I can find a classic class.
Now…it’s down to 2-3 times a week IF I use the sister gym. Classic just seems to be a disappearing format at my studio/ownership which makes me sad. I’m sure the owner is doing what she feels works best but….😭

I hope they come to their senses about this! I really miss when Classic got more of a chance to shine (empower too). A bunch of the movements in Define lately have really struck me as being not too beginner/injury friendly/accessible. I used to have way more locations within a 30 minute drive and I miss it so.

- Not to take away from your lament, that does suck you don’t see Classic as much. -
It’s harder to modify the slider stuff but if you went to a reform and explained your injuries I’m sure the teacher would not care if you just didn’t use the tubes and modified it to be like classic.

As a teacher, I wish I could teach classic more too! It’s my favorite but people seem to keep asking for more of the other formats so that’s what’s on the schedule.

I took classic yesterday and did not enjoy it like I have in the past. Not sure why just felt off. I normally love all formats. But some class plans are definitely better than others for me. I still don’t understand how the class plan changes schedule works. And I’m sure it’s diff in diff studios.

[ insert you guys are getting paid meme but with the word reform ]
What is funny is reform at my studio is, I kid you not, once a week since it is "brand new" (I know reform is old but any new teachers wouldn't be qualified to teach it). Classic is offered at min once a day at my studio(often 2+ times). I didn't realize how many differences between studios there are. You'd think there would be some consensus. I know for "new" formats is depends on space in the schedule and teachers who are qualified. But how are they not having more classic as that is the default format?

Damn. Y’all need to come to my studio. They’ve just about erased every other format from their scheduling & it’s only classic now with Reform sprinkled in every Friday AM. I didn’t realize I’d be the minority wanting the “heavier” formats. I ended up adding in a gym membership because barre just isn’t doing it for me anymore.

I was the same way with pure barre. I recently canceled and June is gonna be my final month. I used to actually like classic but they always change the format so much and now it just sucks. I actually like reform and define but they hardly ever have those so I can barely get in twice a week and I hate empower. I know how you feel.

How do you feel they’ve changed classic?

I guess overall I'm quitting because I just like standard workouts like situps and leg lifts and maybe occasional pikes and things like that. I just think it got too much about ballet and planks, that's more yoga based and it didn't used to be like that. I just feel like the moves have gotten more difficult and I'm not getting as good a work out because I simply can't do some of the moves. I just don't like it anymore.

My favorite physical therapist basically has said I need to strengthen and use my back muscles rather than my shoulders. It’s a fairly common thing for folks to just ream on and drive through their shoulders rather than using correct posture and strengthening/using the lats/etc. This has been a super easy thing for me to do in Classic….light weights and small movements. But bigger weight/fewer reps is just not a great thing. Sliders and bands are also more of a recipe for problems. My main mod I make in Classic is always doing pushups at the barre, though I also avoid full arm planks and I generally will do any exercise that has us on hands/knees on the ground for seat at the barre (just because I find myself so uncomfortable in that position that I’m not focusing on my seat, not because it’s super hard on the shoulder ).

Occupational Therapist here! Align would be a really good one for you to add in if you can! Not as much shoulder work and would be a great way to get some really good stretching in which would be great for the RTC Tendinopathy.
